I was 50/50 when I posted that. I was like, either Rody did it and it's an anomaly or Sex Tapes is the exception to Arif.

So... the only way for writers to get better is to write. Maybe he's learned. They are aware of the criticism against his lyrics. Also, he contributed some things to Kezia, and we've been quoting that for the past week. Maybe we'll get lucky this time.

They did an AMA on Reddit today, among other things; Jaeda Kelly will be on the new album (and presumably every album in the future) and Rody will be writing the lyrics again. While I felt his songs as a whole were pretty damn good (Termites almost felt like an Arif song) I do miss Arifs writing, there's just something magic about it.

Also, Rodys favorite song to play live, Bone Marrow. Tim says the hardest song to play live is Reign of unending Terror.

I have this funny theory that Termites was written as a parody of Arif's style - there are a lot of structural similarities, but instead of being a serious, high concept idea, it's a drinking ditty dressed up real pretty. That seems like something Rody would do, come to think of it.

It's clearly the hardest because they can't bring themselves to play it. Because it's a dumb song.

Blake, I can tell you're upset even before you replied.

it's a shame your fanboyism blinds you to bad lyrics :\

I'm not a big fan of Scurrilous' lyrics, but I much prefer them to Fortress' lyrics.

I have no problem with Rody writing the lyrics again, hopefully he'll get better with practice. I really wish they would do another concept album like Kezia though.

I agree. It's the only PTH song I don't love, and I hate it.

I don't know that I'd characterize everything Rody's written as bad. I'd definitely agree, for example, that Reign of Unending Terror had terrible lyrics, but then you get a song like Termites that could damn near pass for something Arif wrote. I'm not gonna assume he'll make a mess of it entirely, since he didn't on Scurrilous.

Nah, he's not some terrible blight on writing, I'm just consistently bitter given the drastic difference in quality between him and arif.

most of that post was just being melodramatic.

I figured as much. :P

Like I said, there were a couple songs on Scurrilous that I'd put even with Arif's writing, and judging by Moonlight, Arif's not kidding when he says he's tired of writing and running short on ideas. I'll stay cautiously optimistic about the new record. They mentioned in their AMA that they were wanting to get back to their hardcore roots while keeping up the technical and melodic edge.

C'mon, They're not bad. Have you seen the lyrics to Tandem? Pretty powerful lyrics. Rody has skill.

Also. I'm not fanyboying. I'm just saying Rody lyric skills are pretty high up there with Arif.

New Protest The Hero update.

http://www.indiegogo.com/protestthehero?c=activity

The extra money will go towards touring and other stuff.

The weren't kidding when they were going back to their hardcore roots. The song sounds like an upbeat Kezia track.

Hell, I donated to it. Even if the lyrics aren't top notch, I'm sure the music will be. I don't want to pretend I'm settling for an inferior project, but if one of my favorite bands is putting out a product and giving me the chance to be a part in its creation, I'm going to jump on that like a fat kid on cake.
