I decided to post this for the same reason they made the Black Metal thread.
To ensure discussions on small folk metal bands dont die out so quick. joy and prosperity and metal \m/

Whats your favourite Folk Metal? Personally I adore Celtic Metal like Heol Telwen, Mag Mell, Waylander, Cruachan and Priomordial.

I'm getting into Moonsorrow. Definitely more of a Celtic folk feel, too bad their songs aren't English. Otherwise yeah, Ensiferum, Turisas, Korpiklaani, Tyr, Finntroll etc, all great bands.

Clearly this thread has served its purpose. A good place to start is actually the Wikipedia page for it. Gives an ok (at best) low down of the genre and has some good suggestions on where you can start from.

Mael Mordha are wicked. Though they are more doom.
Obviously Skyclad are the best band in this genre.

I have my Claymore ready............
.................. Ensiferum are over rated. Although I think that is because Im not a fan of the Melodic Death Metal, and prefer the more Black orientated Folk Metal.

Meh Im entitled to my opinion boysheen. I feel the folk they use is rather bland.
Although I think that is because Im not a fan of the Melodic Death Metal, and prefer the more Black orientated Folk Metal.

Ensiferum, Eluveitie, Tyr, Windir, Primordial, Ulver (first album?) and Agalloch are among my favorites. Awesome genre as a whole.

Folk Metal is awesome
 . Paganfest coming up next thursday, Ensiferum, Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Tyr.  Recently started listening to Primordial aswell. Really like what I'm hearing so far! Empire Falls is such an awesome song. Check out Svartsot if you can. I heard them on the Metal Hammer CD sounds really promising aswell.
