I listen to Týr's Eric the Red album like 500 times a day...do I have a problem?

Anyways, Finntroll and Týr are probably my 2 favorite folk metal bands right now.

Folk metal is fucking amazing.

It's the one genre I'm always in the mood for. I mostly listen to Celtic and Scandanavian stuff.

Favourite bands are Eluveitie, Primordial, Heol Telwen, Wolfchant, Vintersorg, Ensiferum (don't listen to them as much anymore), Aes Dana, Finntroll, Asmegin, Svartsot, Vintersorg, etc.

Back when i was first getting into music, I loved In Flames' folky instrumentals and the Lords of Magic sountrack I couldn't seem to get into folk-metal though, especially the viking stuff and all the bands everyone seemed to love. I DO however love bands playing the black or death kind of extreme metal very folkily.

Some Mork Gryning tracks come to mind, and definitely Dornenreich and Ulver's Nattens Madrigal (I'm assuming noone would call this folk metal but IMO it's got that folky aura)

Anyone get what I mean? I'm hoping to find much more black and death like this. Rec's would be greatly appreciated!!

I would say this is my second favourite genre after doom, and mainly because of these five bands:

Moonsorrow
Temnozor'
Falkenbach
Tyr
Sig:Ar:Tyr.

Awesome music, plus adds so much to the overall metal feel

I LOVE folk metal. My favorite metal genre actually. If you didn't create this thread, I would.

Agalloch, Vintersorg, Moonsorrow, Wintersun, Windir and pretty much anything I can get over.

Thinking about starting my own folk metal band.

Fuck, I need to find some more folk metal.

Yea Agalloch are pretty sweet. Its hard to beat the more heavier Folk Metal bands though.

I think i can safely say my two favourite Folk Metal bands are Primordial and Moonsorrow.
Suden Uni is some Metal album.

I've only ever heard Falkenbach's Magni Blandinn... album, and it's great. What would you fellows who enjoy them recommend next?

I haven't yet heard a Falkenbach release I didn't like, but if you're more into the folky aspect then this one:

Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty

and if more into the black metal part these two:

Heralding - The Fireblade
...En Their Medh Riki Fara...

More discussion of Vintersorg is needed.

Go.
