THEY'RE FOLK-DOOM!!!!!!!!

They have folk subject matter, a general epic folky feel, and little folky licks and acoustics sections.

Solstice have acoustic sections and a 'folky' feel, much more so than Doomsword, does that make them folk doom? Not at all. Same goes for Bathory, now I mention it.

The best example of 'folk doom' is Mael Mordha.

yeah imo Doomsword would be folk metal in the sense of Bathory, whom I don't really consider folk

but does it really matter, awesome band nonetheless

Bathory have folk abums too! Nordland I and II are pure folk.

And I know Mael Mordha already. The folk sound they have is undeniable so I don't know what to say to you.

Folk metal FTW
Vintersorg are so awesome and do they remind anyone else of a more folky opeth? I only have Odemarken's son album and it rules

Can't let this thread die...

In any event, I just got ahold of Windir's 1184. Incredible black metal, definitely a breath of fresh air, although I'm still a bit "ehhh" on the synth/keyboard parts. It'll probably grow on me, though.

Eluveitie's newest album has a very melodeath-y sound to it, I'm really enjoying it.

Inis Mona is probably one of the catchiest songs ever.

^ I'll be sure to check it next time I can.

So, I pretty much have all my folk metal band basics down, what are some more lesser-known yet equally awesome folk metal bands out there? The more epic the better.

Doomsword.

Borknagar and Vintersorg are 2 of my favorite folk bands. Cosmic Genesis is one of my favorite albums of all time and Borknagar's criminally underrated The Archaic Course and Quintessence provide me with my much needed fix of ICS Vortex.
