Why? They obviously have very good chops and could easily play it on a clean setting, or a classical guitar.

Why would that make it any better?

They probably pulled it off of sheet music anyway, which tells me they have good sight reading skills and most likely music theory training.

The only thing I would change would be the tone, and it wasn't that bad. The drummer over did it a bit, but I liked it.

I've also listened to that whole piece for about 12 hours straight, in order to write a paper on Bach's use of Ritornello form.

I don't like it because they are just wanking with a Bach piece. So you can play the notes that Back wrote, big whoop, still sounds like crap.

I think that this is a good metal cover of a classical piece because it sounds like they put some thought into the instrumentation:

I think this is a good metal cover of a classical piece because it's by a band who actually play metal.

But seriously, I don't understand the point of these kind of covers, they're invariably not really 'metal', they're arrangements of the pieces for distorted electric guitar and occasionally drums, but just having a distorted electric guitar doesn't make something 'metal'. It's the same with all the 'metal' covers of pop songs that just have the original track with double kick patterns and chugging sixteenth notes. Invariably the people that make these things have a limited understanding of heavy metal and/or listen mostly to watered down versions of it.

Besides, what exactly is gained by trying to adapt the primitive artworks of the classical composers to the spiritually higher art of heavy metal?

Maybe you're trying to consider this "Metal" when it isn't.

It falls more into shred, or even just an arrangement of classical music. Its not metal, its just a change of instruments. If I have a minuet for piano, and I turn it into a string quartet, its still a minuet.

Arranged for rock ensemble, what's the big deal? I don't particularly mind the concept, though I can understand a disdain for the interpretation.

Pretty much this.

I finally found a MIDI file for Shostakovich's String Quartet no.8, for the first and second movements. I was transcribing it last year but my Hard Drive crashed, so I decided to retry and found a much easier way to get it into the computer.

All I have to do now is arrange the tabs into a playable format and then learn it.

I don't generally like distorted covers of classical pieces. Bar this http://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...ISMw_DkT0#t=53s because it's goddamn sexy.

It's funny how most of these covers you hear with double bass and scooped mids are pieces like toccata and fugue, symphony 5, moonlight sonata mvt.3, B minor suite, Rondo alla turca etc...

Do they even classical music?

add more synths, get at least one of the vocalists back, lower the guitar in the mix, let a real bassist write and play bass parts and they'd be golden.

also stop the chugging but most of that song is pretty catchy other than that, kinda veil-of-maya-y

on another note, i got a hold of a peavey 260 standard to hold me over until i get my rh stack, which'll be around christmas with any luck

Do you ever step back for a minute and think, "behind every post riddled with bullshit on this forum there is a live, warm-blooded, breathing human being who actually believes the shit they're saying?"

It's hard to comprehend when people start hating on Chopin.
