If you could be any writer ever, who would you be:
Theodore Geisel
or Richard Bach.

Why Do You Write:
I started because I wanted to try something different.
I continue because it scares the hell out of me.
Makes me feel vulnerable, naked.

Favourite technique/style to write:
I haven’t even figured out what I’m doing yet.
I don’t think I have a style
other than to create some sort of pattern in sonics and rhythm.

Favourite Writer on UG:
Pete or Kent.
or if I really want to push my limited reading ability to the max, Steve or Chantal.
or for pure simple enjoyment: Jamie, Zach, or Jake.

Most Helpful Critic:
No doubt Jamie has been THE constant throughout my time here on UG.
Joris helped me with a piece that was very important to me.
Zach helps me a ton.
Jake understands how I think. I fear for you, Jake.
Lately, Dylan pisses on nearly everything I write.
I can’t begin to thank him enough.
Indirectly, Steve.
I learned much about writing, just by reading his crits on others’ works.

Your Most Recent Work and Reason behind It:
Skid Row Diary. It might be a prophecy.

Tips for Newer Writers:
hahaha
Asking me for advice is dangerous.
I have no shortage of opinions.
A few of them might even be worth listening to.

Figure out what works for you, and the time.
Sometimes you just have to force your way through a write.
Other times it won’t work and you’ll have to wait until you’re ready.
Or just stop caring at all. Just write whatever comes out and have fun with it.

Don’t be afraid to Frankenstein a piece.
Sometimes you’ll write a something around a key section
But as the work takes shape, that part no longer fits.
Change the keystone radically, if necessary.
Or just delete it, and let the piece breathe.

Sometimes the most powerful messages
are delivered by the words left unspoken.

Write for the competitions and OTS them whenever possible.
You won’t have a clue what your piece will look like until you’re finished and you might surprise yourself in a good way.

What’s your goal in writing:
I’d like to write songs.
Cheesy, commercial pop songs
complete with hooks and catchphrases.
But I’d also like them to have meaning.

Any Final Comments or Thoughts:
Pete should have won this one.

Writing is only bytes in cyberspace, or pen-strokes on paper.

skagitup really god speller Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: london	congratulations, you are a wonderfully progressive writer, deserved of this recognition if not for your skill then for your effort and apparently unlimited kindness. i can only hope that this will inspire confidence and signify the end of moderately annoying critiques too readily concerned with grammatical, syntactical and literary errors, seemingly ignoring the actual fire of the pieces - i trust that it's time to begin looking at works as words of poetry rather than exhibitions of coherent and conformist writings. there's truly nothing more irritating than having the initial euphoria of reply dashed by the realisation that such reply was merely pointing out a missing (and often quite unessential) period. one learns to write from reading, indeed, but if such was the only necessity a writers own works would be the replication, not the response.
