Voting Is Now Open!
Also.... I may have had a few beers and added a link to this thread in some peoples' signatures. I'd really like to see a lot of votes for this. But please do feel free to remove the link if you wish (Click "Control Panel" then "Edit Signature"). |

you wrote Office First Annual UG Acoustic Album... if you care ![]() anyway, i vote for: Rylynn - Jimtaka Here come the trees – dreadnaught Western Colonisation – Ardie12 Midnight - Tulletica Edit: would it not be easier to have a poll? Edit2: also, i thought i stated this in the other thread, but my piece isnt an original. Its off Final Fantasy X and is composed by Nobuo Uematsu (spelling may be wrong..) Well, I've listened to every one of them so I wouldn't have any bias, and although there are many that deserve a mention and a listen, my votes have to go to the following songs:
1. "Mountains of Asturias". This is the way I try to write my songs, crazy and catchy. What this piece lacks in length, it makes up for in originality and catchiness, and I love that twangy style. The sound quality lacks a bit, but this could be just due to the low tuning that it sounds it have, which would explain some of the buzz. 2. "Soul Journey" Is it just the tones of that Taylor that make me love this piece? I'm sure that's part of it, and the title is perfectly fitting. The combination of the somewhat eerie tune with the bright crystal tone really make this piece. 3. "I'll Be Here". Both this one and Here Come the Trees are great, but I prefer this one. More upbeat. Very nicely written. A piece very worthy to be a part of this acoustic album. 4. "Lounging". Is it just me, or are the rhythms in this piece a little odd? Either way, it's a good piece, and sounds somewhat like it could be a track on Buckethead's Electric Tears. Check out the cool little part around 1:30. Other worthy mentions (among others): "Blue's Rust". Reminds me a lot of old Charles Manson songs. "To Zanarkand" Very good piece, but I can't help thinking that it needs to be less conventional. "Western Colonization". Cool piece, only I didn't vote for it because it can't be played on one guitar. If somehow the percussive and rhythm could be arranged differently for simultaneous play........ That's all from me.... Last edited by THE NEKRYPH : 08-19-2008 at 01:44 AM. |

Oh yeah, jimtaka's cover of Rylynn is very good, I had to turn up the sound to make sure it wasn't just plagiarized. Sounds almost exactly like Andy's youtube version, which is also exactly the way I play it. However, a cover is a cover, and not many personal changes seemed to be incorporated. I could have submitted a number of Mckee songs note for note myself, though to do something good and original is another thing.

Agreed 100%. I just learned the piece to submit it for this album because it's such a popular piece around the forum. I was really, really short on time. |

im not trying to change your votes or anything, but.. the albums not just for original songs you know... covers are allowed in too. i do agree that personal changes and whatever to the piece are good, sometimes even better.. but not voting for it just cuz its not an original piece... you shouldnt base your descision on whether they composed it, but whether you like the piece. |

I have no problem with covers, but also seeing as I only have 4 votes, originality comes first, even though I did like the covers better. |

Well, I downloaded them and the ID3 tag says they are by some artist named Manu, and on an album named Heard Upon Deaf Ears, which I googled, and is an album with those songs. Now I couldn't believe that that was your album, otherwise you probably would have had all the songs on your profile, but maybe it is. I don't know for sure, but that was my guess. Here's the link: http://www.emusic.com/label/Manu-Tu...oad/205006.html But if they are truly originals, and you verify this, then I shall certainly edit my votes. ![]() |
