The Official Peavey Vypyr Thread
With the launch of this mysterious little guy I anticipate loads of questions.
What is the Peavey Vypyr? The Vypyr is a new line of guitar amps from Peavey. They come in a variety of flavors: 15w, 30w, 60w(With tube power-amp), 75w, 100w, and 120w(Also Tube power-amp). They range from $99 to $650. Well ok, but what is so special about this amp? The Peavey Vypyr is a modeling amp that features analog distortion, many different amp models to choose from, rack and pedal effects, and a nice easy to use interface. What amp models can I find on the Vypyr? Classic 30 Bad-Kat Brit Plexi Dlx Twn Dzl K-Stein Rec 6505 JSX XXX As you can see there are quite a few choices and each amp model has a low gain or clean and a high gain setting. What effects can I use on this amp? The Vypyr series has a TON of effects, I'm not going to list them all out but there is everything from simple chorus, reverb and delay all the way to crazy rotary speaker, reverse and even a looper! Really? It has a looper? Yes, unfortunately you Have to have a 30 watt model or above and you HAVE to buy the Sanpera I or II to use it. What else does this amp feature? Plenty! An on-board tuner, niffy bank feature for saving your favorite settings, USB recording(60 watt model and up only) and headphone and aux input on all models! Well, how does it sound? I'll try to keep opinion out of this first post(because I want it devoted to information), if you really want to know go try it out.... everyone has their own taste in tone. Overall this is a nifty little amp that has loads of features. feel free to ask questions or post your experiences with the Vypyr! Handy feature guide: http://www.peavey.com/products/Vypyr/index.cfm ![]()

Now that I have the info post up...
After seeing this was released I called up my local guitar center and promptly picked up a 15watt model. After playing around with it for a while I am quite impressed! This little practice amp has so much versatility and it sounds pretty amazing considering it was $100. So far I really like the XXX and Plexi models. For being 15 watts it is loud as hell... turn it too high and it starts sounding crappy though. I really think this amp will be the new starter standard!

Hmm, I might get the 15W model for a practice amp for my bedroom at my moms as, my Mesas at my dads.

Wasn't the Rage part of the Transtube series? But, IMO, Peavey has yet to make a bad amp... they do however use really crappy stock speakers lol.

ah yes it was. i always confuse myself with multiple labellings and whatnot. but IMHO its just "ehhhhhhhh". id take a low-wattage spider over one (at least id get fun fx) >_> and the speakers thing probably does plays a big part to it |

The general consensus so far is that they are significant steps up from the Spiders, but still not perfect.

Of course they're better than the spiders, but I want to know how to stand up to the cubes and valvetronixs. Also I'm kinda bummed that the 30 watt doesn't have the built in usb interface that the higher watt ones do.
You should put the link in the original post, it has a nifty chart. http://www.peavey.com/products/Vypyr/index.cfm |

They are better than all three from what the HC users have said. Solid practice amps for the price. Don't think anyone has posted about the tube versions yet though. |

Do the 60 and 120 have ALL tube poweramps? Can they achieve tube breakup?
This makes more sense than a tube preamp and solid state poweramp like other hybrids...

I as the same as dungeon was about to get a cube, when I heard about these little nifty things. I'd prefer the 30 watt vypyr for the stompbox effects. But would it be easy enough to carry around in 1 hand, with my guitar in the other and school stuff on my back? This is my main question about it tbh
