The first time I listened to a real black metal song, I was scared. I thought I'd downloaded a cleanly polished Dimmu Borgir song, but I'd actually gotten Antikrist from the original Stormblåst. I wasn't expecting something so dark and raw, it was unsettling. I love that cd. Anyways, what I'm getting at is that it isn't about being scary. It's just the nature of the music. Some people will go out of their way for it just for the fun of it, but black metal by nature is just a very dark, raw sounding form of music that has an unsettling sound to a lot of people who aren't familiar with it. Also, black metal is the best and it kicks everything's ass.

im so very surprised that there are no tabs on UG or anywhere on the web of the band ANTHEM. possibly the greatest and most efficient metal band to come out of japan. 12-13 albums released in the last almost 30 years and all of them are great. I wouldve expected the guitarist, akio shimizu, style to be interesting for the tabbers on this site. I just hope people pick these guys up and start hearing their music. its a crime how underappreciated they are

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Maximum the Hormone. Despite their occasional nu-metal tendencies, I find them to be much more punk/experimental than nu.

Whoa, this is an old thread.
I've got a big soft spot for j-metal, j-rock, j-pop... I mean, you listen to some 80's Japanese hair metal and it's ****ing crazy hahaha. It's just so excessive and spirited, their interpretation of speed metal and rock. You can really tell the Japanese bands have a style unlike their western counterparts, like a whole different melodic sensibility which becomes very evident when there are melodic vocals involved. That being said, I'm not going to post a bunch of J pop metal here because this forum has little tolerance for any pop metal, so here's a Japanese deathgrind band called "Mortalized", who shares the same guitarist as grindcore band Gridlink and melodic speed/thrash band Hayaino Daisuki. The old school looking website for their label Bloodbath calls them "Satanic Orchestral Blast Grind Metal" - love that! This is their entire miniCD "Absolute Mortality #2: it seems like some of their stuff is out of print, and not easy to find good quality downloads either. Not totally sure, but it is kind of similar to the whole hair metal look concept as well haha. |
