How To Market Your Band.(And Other Stuff)
I'm just really posting a couple of guides that I think could help people. I also want people to post some guides here to help and we could make quite a big thread.
Legend: Tips are Royal Blue. SECTIONS MARKETING PLANS No Money Music Marketing Plan The $52.45 Music Marketing Plan Expanding Your Street Team -Self-explanatory. GIG GUIDES How can I record my live gigs? -VERY useful if you want to video webcast. GetGigs.com -Gig resource. Not sure how useful it is though. 10 Ways To Get People to go To Your Next Gig Gig Survival Guide LICENSING YouLicense License your music and get it placed in media. Mechanical Licensing - Their brochure download on that page is a good run-down of how it all works. Music Licensing Canada's Copyright Act INTERNET Top 6 File-Hosting Sites -Upload your songs/whatever here. TubeMogul -Lets you upload your music videos to over 15 video hosting sites at once. RECORDING Home Recording Guide 6 Stereo Miking Techniques You Can Use Today RecordingProject - a smaller community with some very knowledgeable people about recording. Very nice folks there. Because it is smaller, you don't have as many idiots running around starting flame wars. Pipelineaudio has worked with Sheryl Crow, Megadeth, Gin Blossoms, etc. www.homerecording.com/bbs - Similar to above, but much bigger. More people available to help, but also more prodding, flaming, random nonesense, etc. Still very good though. http://www.prosoundweb.com/ - Steve Albini (producer of Nevermind) hangs out there, as do many other industry pros. Lots of great reading, but being pros, they aren't always as tolerant of people who want to engage in discussion who don't know what they're talking about. 10 Affordable Mics For The Home Studio -Describes what each of them does. Helpful if you're gonna go shopping. http://www.recordingmag.com/index.html - A very good magazine written in a way that the newb recording enthusiast and the intermediate recording types can both gain a lot from it. Reviews from Samson and Behringer to SSL and Neumann; articles on recording, mixing, mic placement, guitar tone, etc. 10 Signs Your Track Is Amateur GENERAL 100 Free & Affordable High & Low Tech Music Promotion Tips -Helpful enough. Know The Music Biz Wiki -Great resource. Band Flyer Maker -For those not gifted in Photoshop. Indie Band Survival Guide Music Definitions Music Is My Business -A pretty general guide Really. 10 Music Business Survival tips Guitar Glen These are some I found that could really help people. If this got big I could format it and shizz. NOTE I know it's missing some vital headings, but I can add them in later. ![]()

decent post...
I'll wait for the more experienced guys in here to approve this and then i could maybe add my 2 cents! But marketing is the key to getting your band popular. The more you can promote and market your band, the more popular it'll get, the more it'll sell. |

Since I don't know a better place to share this I'll put this here
band flyer maker a little flash program to create band flyers for people not gifted with photoshop. I managed to get some cool stuff by playing around with it. |

It all seems to be in good order, although some of it is obviously someone advertising their services, but the offered advice in all of those seems to be sound enough. Approved!

Cool, then!
I guess the TS should organise the 1st post a little better, categorising them and giving little descriptions and maybe we could look to sticky this as a Marketing and useful links thread. Cuz this really is a major aspect of making your band bigger... |

Thanks. I just hope you don't think it's me that's advertising. I found these sites through Stumbleupon.

Yeah, http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/foru...isplay.php?f=56 I know it sounds slightly sarcastic but it's not meant to be. It's actualy one of the best sources of helpful band advice I've ever seen. And I'm not just saying that because I post on it either, there are many people here who actualy specialise in many different aspects of being a musician such as axmanchris for example who specialises in recording studios as well as being a very experienced musician in his own right. To be honest though, I've never really looked for this kinda thing on the net so I don't really have any useful links to hand, but I will cirtainly keep my eyes open for some for inclusion here. Being from an older generation, (pre-internet) I kinda got used to just relying on my local circle of musicians whenever I needed advice. Basicaly that means goin' down the pub and asking my buddies. ![]()

I don't think I need to add that one. If you want you could contribute stuff to it, or may I ask for permission to copy some of your posts into this? (Pay-To-Play etc.)

![]() EDIT: If anybody else tries to do this and uses the audiblehype marketing guide, if you get it to work could you help me cause I don't know what I did wrong. I did everything that the site says but I can't even get my blogspot site to show up in google.

Ya know TS,
You could keep the first post for just links n stuff. Then if any of us want to add any tips n all to the thread, we can post it in here in the blue font, separating the "tips" posts from the other posts. So if anyone comes in to look for certain tips on certain topics, they could browse through the blue posts and find what they're looking for... |
