Actually that creeativity statement is flawed. Sure there are a lot of great wasys to od it. But if you really want to make an impact as a band, you're going to have do something- Different.

The future of music is about customizing your game plan to fit you!!!! Though this is a great list of information to look at and make better educated decisions on how to customize. I actually stopped by to ask if anyone was using twitter and what thoughts or suggestions you might have in that area. http://blog.timelineonline.org/2009...-musicians.html |

Holy crap, when did this get revived?! And..stickied!? I'm gonna have to update this.
EDIT: Also thank you for the sticky. I'll update it in a tic, but I know this could get absolutely huge, so if there's any dead links or low quality ones, please tell me. Also, we'll need to get a couple more links on the smaller sections, so I'll be open to suggestions.

www.limitless-studios.com has a good forum for recording, it's small but informative.

Ok, the getgigs.com wasn't really much help so.....
Whats the best way to go about getting a gig? I just sent my band's info off to a local production label (12 Monkey Productions) about booking us for local shows. What are some other ways I could get my band off the ground? |

Enjoy it! go to bars and meet the owners, talk to them, actually make an effort on foot, go out and LOOK for good places to play, being your own manager and booking your own shows is half the fun, your meeting a community!

There are tons of tips in here to help you come up with a tenative plan to market yourself. Some tips will work better for some than others
Honestly though, its really tough to fathom all this!

Part of the thing, too, is that reading about stuff is one thing. Actually talking to people who have been there and learning from your own experiences are far more compelling.
Either way, though, it's all very, very important info. CT

I have another helpful tip which I myself and quickly learning
Figure out what your demographic is and play to it. My demographic, I have learned, Is not teenagers. Teenagers want to listen to dime a dozen indie bands and dance music. They don't understand heavy or serious music (in my scene). My band has played several teen clubs (as the drummer and I are 16 and the bassist is 17) and we have also played some places in which more adults are present (anybody ever heard of Toads place?) and we get a much better reaction from the older crowds- becasue our music has been refined much more than a teenage band and has been highly tuned and perfected- so we don't sound like a ****ty little teenage cover band unlike most other adolescent groups out there. That is why we have decided to focus our energy into playing venues where we can showcase ourselves in front of audiances that are more receptive to our music, and are more mature about the music. We played one teen club that wouldn't let us swear. Can you believe that? Find your demographic and use it to your advantage

Wow, a lot of advice linked from here. A lot to get through, but generally very helpful.
As, I am sure, many of you are; I am in a band who have only been together a short time and we are still working on material. Once we get to that stage where are we are ready to start marketing ourselves with a view to gigging recording etc, what would any of you say are the most important things to do to begin with?

That was a great list. Thanks for posting that.
Bob Baker also provides some smokin' info. http://www.bob-baker.com/ I've been following his stuff for years. He also has a decent podcast you can search for on i-tunes. KC Jamz |

Twitter is a great way to tell people about shows and great place to offer a coupon code for your cds or anything you sale.
