And when the band in question rights standard power metal (i'm not saying good or bad as i've barely heard them, but it's most certainly not 20 minute prog songs or avante garde) then it just looks utterly ******ed.

Yep. Fairly good, but I dunno. I only have "special connections" with certain bands of this genre.

i see
i actually like them a bit more than Elvenking, mostly because i like the vocals better
Wyrd is still incredible though


as for power metal, besides BG of course, i've been really diggin Oracle Sun lately
they're not all that original, and not genre-defying in any way, but they make some seriously epic and catchy music

Dragonland have some absolutely amazing instrumentals. I'm not too fussed about most of their stuff, but when the singer goes for a tea break, they become brilliant.
