New Amp Problems.

On my search for a new amplifier i have pretty much come to decide between these two. I wanted a Bugera for the amazing versatility (everybody likes to wander to high gain too once in a while) but the unreliability is just too much for me.

I play mostly progressive and classic rock, but i would like the amp to have at least a respectable mid-gain sound (yes, i'm ready to invest in pedals) SO my main point is, which of these is better dirty-wise. And well, all-wise as well.

Ps. I hear that the Peavey has 7 tubes and as i haven't owned a tube amp before and don't know enough about them i'd like to know does that equal to lots of expenses .(during switches, etc.)

Thanks in advance.

Well, my deal went off. 3 hours before i was supposed to order the Peavey it was gone. Three weeks it could wait but not 3 hours.

Now it's 950 and that's too much.

I'm now propably between Engl Screamer, Marshall JCM2000 DSL-401 and Bugera 333XL-212.

I would instantly buy the Bugera but i'm pretty afraid of the reliability issues.

Any word on these amps?

For mid-gain overdrive, the Peavey Classic 50 all the way. Fenders are awesome clean.....however, the Peavey will do a great classic rock tone on its overdrive channel with a few knob turns. The Hot Rod Deluxe was not designed for that.

Granted, you can mess with it enough with a few pedals so you could get that tone out of it. But you may only want one pedal to use with the Peavey to get your sound.....the Hot Rod won't get you that close with several pedals without a fight. In the end, you should pick what YOU think sounds best for you, but I'll bet that the Classic 50 will be pretty much what you're looking for. It's also a lot more versatile....it can do pretty much anything but metal, while the Hot Rod Deluxe is best for blues and clean or only moderately dirty '60s rock.

As for tubes....I'd say a basic rule of thumb is to expect to replace your tubes every year or two. Granted, some people are harder on their amps than others, but if you take care of your amp and use your standby properly and some other minor care things, you shouldn't have any tube problems besides normal wear and tear to deal with, if the amp is well-designed and isn't a lemon. There's a lot more detailed stuff about tubes and their ins and outs on this site....do some searching, they'll tell you all you need to know.

I plugged into a bunch of amps yesterday The hot rod was 1 of them. they didn't have the 50 but they had the classic 30. Had I been amp shopping i would have gotten the classic 30.

I'd go for the peavey. Having owned a HRD I can attest to the the crappy drive channel. The cleans were awesome, wouldn't mind having it around to AB with my Mesa.

Whoa, where do you live? I assumed you lived in the US at first, but if not, then you might be much better off getting something else. That doesn't sound like a very good deal for the Peavey.

That's not a bad price, it's like 600 bucks.

Yeah, but for the money, he might be able to get something better over there. I'm not too sure about the prices over in Finland, but I would keep your options open to more than just those 2 amps.

You should get a Laney VC30 because they are a better value in the UK> (If that IS where you are)

I've been amp shopping for about a year and pretty much everything costs way more than everything in Finland. Hot Rod DLX is 700 (And that's a good deal as well here)

How does that compare to the C30 price wise?

I would also focus on the Classic Series if you can.

The HRD is great if you want super loud super clean tone.'
