God, you need to see that song played live, I saw them at the Unholy Alliance and that was a brilliant moment.

Norther - Everything

A couple of other Norther songs have been mentioned, but this is the only song by them that I've heard. The vocals really add to the whole emotion part of it...

and I agree that Friedman's is just better than Drover's, and just in general. Ireally like the addition of Chris Broderick though.

Sabachthani - Josephine Sleeper:

http://www.myspace.com/sabachthanisweden (4th song)

Not just depressing/gloomy, but utterly sad.

+

My Dying Bride - Two Winters Only

Another kind of sadness, and a damned sad one at that.

Just trying to break the pattern of thrash/heavy metal band's softer songs and Agalloch + Warning Not that they aren't damned great as well!

fate of norns and a fair judgement seconded

adding

death, come near me - draconian

xasthur in general makes me sad, mabye prison of mirrors, the drums are disgustingly claustrophobic

requiem, kyrie - virgin black...am i choosing depressing or sad metal, and is there a difference?

Love that song. Omerta would've worked better though

Oh, and "One Last Time" and "The Spirit Carries On" by Dream Theater are fairly sad.

Anyone mention Bathory's Ring of Gold? I find it beautiful and sad at the same time. GREAT song.
