Hurrah for new thread! The old one was very very cluttered.

minibrowny: Those are amazing shots. I particularly like the first, because of the texture on the sidewalk. The use of banking is also quite nice; all of the different angles complement each other.

i love looking at photography, and i need a new hobby. used to take a few pictures here and there back when i had a crappy digital camera. im pretty good in photoshop (i use CS3), but i dont know where to start when it comes to buying cameras. i live in a really historic city and i always see stuff and think "that's be a sick picture" but i dont want to spend over 150 bucks on a camera. =[ ahh thus is life; what im really trying to say is, how did you guys get started in photography? always been interested in it? or did you just invest in a camera one day and say "no turning back i just dished out 400 bucks"?

Then just spend that 150 and get a digital compact. - thats what most ppl have end up doing and it works very well. you ll quickly see how interested in it you are, and as you say, your not left with a camera that cost a load and then doesnt get used.

The quality of most of the current compacts is really nice, makes the 3.2mega pixel compact i learned on seem ancient

I would recommend against getting the cheapest no-name-brand one. look at some of the Canons powershots, though some of them might just be over that 150 price.

but either way getting a compact 1st is definitely the way to go. some of the others should be able to recommend good compacts.

Oops. My bad. I'll just add a pic of two of my own so that I'm not a COMPLETE jackass, haha.

I shot these out of my old Sony DSC-V3. Not a great photographer, but I tried. No editing done at all.

It was a rather dreary day when I took these. I looked over at my Martin sitting on a stand right next to me and thought "wow, that white binding really accents the guitar", so I decided to take a few pics.

Why yes, it's the classic looking down the guitar shot, but I think I got a good angle on this one.



The pics are a bit blurry if you look at them too closely. Had to turn up the iso or else it would have been too dark. Im a complete noob at taking pics, but it's fun.

EDIT: Just saw the pic of Neuschwanstein above. I visited that castle as well a summer or two ago. The inside is indeed rather plain. The count died before it was completed. Apparently, this is the castle that Walt Disney based his castle on.
