Dark Light wasn't really my thing, but I still think they've written some awesome songs and they still seem to be very cool, earthbound guys.

Recently an American school teacher played some songs about suicide and death including HIM’s “Join Me In Death” to her students in class. This sparked an outcry and attention on the band’s lyrics…

People will always make whatever they want out of something. It’s only art and shouldn’t be taken so seriously. It’s about expressing your feelings through music and lyrics and it is not about actually doing something. It is a very healthy way of getting rid of your negative feelings. People who take things out of context and are like this are usually narrow minded and unrealistic.

oww man i totally agree on this one

Hmmmm so people made a big to do about "Join me in Death" being played in a school yet no one bitches when they have the children read Romeo and Juliet, where (much like the song) two young lovers commit suicide.... I will never understand people.
Anyways, nice interview! HIM rules! And I can't wait to hear Linde doing black metal, should be brutal!

Actually HIM has chanced on every single album they have done.
From Greatest lovesongs vol.666 to Razorblade that was totally different. Not as heavy and more mainstreamish.
From that to BSADH and Love metal. Both different from each other and definitely love metal is way different from Razorblade. Then the Crap album. The most reasent album was actually the heaviest they have made but allmost as mainstream as the CRAP album before.

Not every album they have made have been that great but definitely they have never been stuck with their music.

I don't care if it was heavy or not it was buying the same album over and over again. They never broke down any walls or anything...all they did was give their fans the same album but a little bit heavier.Like I said the love metal theme is old and they need to get a new idea/act.

Btw, most of those think HIM is such a crappy band and its all the same and blah blah, but their style has obtained gold & platinum records worldwide. I think HIM are by far pretty original than any other bands who bring boring stuff from 2000-now. Now IMO, there are only a few good bands that are 110% capable of keeping metal in its good status, cause really, there are a lot of bands that they just think there the last shit on the desert for making a drop d or c song. HIM is one of those few bands that to me they keep metal alive no matter what ****ing aspect, no matter what other person think. Even Sabbath wanted to tour with HIM in '03 but couldn't happen cuz of ozzy's accident.

Actually that depends on your idea of what a great musician is. In my humble opinion being a master of technicality doesn't make you a great guitarist/bassist/vocalist/pitched instrument player. I reckon a lot of it has to do with the ingenuity and individuality put into a song. If you can take your mood or idea and get it across with 95% accuracy through a song, or re-create EXACTLY what you hear in your head, I'd say you were a good musician.

HIM is a great band, and obviously one of the most talented for receiving the rewards they've received. They've been around for longer than people think, before stereotypes were used as much as they are now. There's always going to be people who bash bands they don't like, but I believe you should respect every band, unless they're asking for it. Sure HIM's frontman Ville is pretty feminine(sp?), no doubt, but he has a great voice, and a kick ass guitarist. I'm sure if Linde wanted to he could lay down a great solo for every song, but then the song wouldn't have the same effect. I hope this new album he's soon to jam up will be great, but then again he's a great guitarist so why wouldn't it be. Long live HIM, long live Linde. Btw... his dreads are awesome.

HiM is a distinctly guilty pleasure. The great majority of their music seems to be overblown emo bullshit, and their lyrics often borderline on downright pathetic. It's like they took a poem, then replaced an adjective with something morose.

Still, a lot of it is just way too damn catchy.

Also, 13 yr olds don't belong on the internet.

It's kinda funny how wrong you are about the 'extreme ends'.

Is Lindstrom actually being serious about releasing a black metal album? So does that make him a sell-out for playing in HIM? Or a poser for playing black metal?

I just hope that it doesn't suck as much as HIM.

i used to like him; I like that guy's SG's.
But I just found that they were a band you could genreally, and justifiably say, every song is the same.
Starts with a melody...power chords come bbehind...guitar fades out for verse...comes in for chorus...that kind of thing.
I have not listened to anyting passed love metal, except like one song and I saw that they had learnt some form of new structure...I just found all the sounds very homogeonus in that sense; and wished they'd just shake it up...
I enjoyed razorblade romance...
I also do not know whever to respect whether or not the fact that they haven't progressed.
Usually bands, you know, do a wwerird concept album or change style as the years go on; so much that point a and b are almost unrecognisible...HIM haven't so much...
I don't know what to think about that.
I like bands to evolve; HIM (bar a few subtle differences) really dont sound too dissimilar to how they did one the first albums.
I'm not saying its a bad thing, I'm just not sure how to approach that...

Oh Lord. 1996-2004

8 years not being completely recognized, you Fucking T W A T

Just quoting from Wikiped.

Greatest love song (released '97): #4 in Finland. #31 U.S
Razorblade Romance ('99): #1 in Finland. #1 in Germany. #8 in US.
D.S+B.H ('01): #1 Finland. #2 Germany.

Trust me, they were mainstream in europe for quite a while now. They blew up in the U.S when Bam started using HIM's symbol on his shoes and crap.
