That's because Tarja should look bad -.- Marco is an amazing musician, I can't wait to hear some of the new Nightwish stuff. Though honestly I'm more excited for some news on Tarot.

Very nice Marco Rules!!!!!

Please do NOT start that idiotic Tarja junk. Snowfire -.-

The main reason I enjoy Nightwish is the inclusion of the orchestra elements. I absolutely love that. This band is one of my biggest influences, musically speaking, because of that. And then another reason is that the members of the band seem to be genuinely good people, which is kinda rare from all the douchebags in the music industry now.

anette only made nightwish better.
the thing i dont like about this review is it makes marco look like the creative power behind the band, and whilst he is partially, tuomas is the main music and lyric writer.
great interview though, the guy has killer beard

Empathica1928 :
Each album has gotten better and better, and Dark Passion Play is by far, in my opinion, the best thing Nightwish has done yet. Every song is killer and I prefer Anette's voice to Tarja's (not that I didn't like hers, of course). And goddamn, Poet and the Pendulum is a ****ing epic song. They were amazing at Wacken, too.

Empathica1928 :
And yea, this was a really good interview. Marco's a pretty cool guy, and he has one of the most unique voices out there. I'm glad they touched on the subject of European music being more dramatic than western stuff, haha. Minor music is definitely more exciting than major.

Nightwish is one of the best out there. Its good to actually hear from Marco, I've only found interviews with Tuomas and Annette. I didn't know Marco was involved with as many projects as he was. Pretty busy dude. But bad ass beard.

Very inspiring guy, I'm not as obsessed by NW as I used to be but I guess I just over-listened to them. But they're awesome musicians, Emppu doesn't solo too often but he's got a unique style, and intense skills, if he soloed more often he'd probably get hailed.

I'm also impressed that there was no name-dropping about Sinergy, a lot of the nordic metal elite played in that band.

I love Nightwish, Great Music

And great people too. When you look at the finns. They make so much dark music, but when you watch videos of what they do in their off-time, they are so funny, and life-loving people that party together and do funny things. Especially Marco, Tuomas and Emppu.

Lets not mentions anything about the other 2 singers...
always leads to fighting.

Marco is the ****. Nightwish forever! Annette's a good singer. Not Tarja, no, and she doesn't quite have the nightwish sound to her voice like Tarja imprinted upon our minds, but she is ever bit as good a singer if not better.

Good interview!

@ironwolg: Sadly their performance has gotten much much worse since Tarja left. The gigs with her you could tell that the band was coherent. I'm always surprised to see the band talk about how well she clicked with the music because it doesn't sound like that in live gigs at all! I wish they'd drop some of their old songs from the set-list because they get so mutilated with the new lineup. If you don't believe me, watch an old concert DVD and then go to a live gig or vice-versa.

WRONG!

Watching a live DVD you will see Tarja always just stood there. I saw Nightwish earlier this year and Annette actually engages the crowd like a Metal singer should. The fact is it was never in Tarja's character to front a metal band. Tarja is technically a better singer, but the band as a whole is stronger with Annette.

POSTED: 11/24/2008 - 06:34 am / quote |
VengeancePuppy :
I agree with you, not_dead_enough, on the point that Tarja was not the right character to front a metal band.

However, on the whole, I still stand by my opinion that the entire Nightwish experience, with concerts and albums, was much better with Tarja's voice than Anette's. I do see that the band had to get a new singer but Anette is very much sub-par. IMHO, as always.

not_dead_enough :
Of course, our opinions are our own.

I think, all things considered, whoever they got was always going to have a difficult job. The thing that makes me respect Annette is that she does not try to be Tarja. I thought her singing Wish I Had An Angel sounded great; different yes, but great. The way I see it is that Nightwish has simply began a new chapter.

However, time will tell. Let's see in 2-3 albums time...

I agree on many points, except that Tarja should somehow be a technically better singer than Aneete. NO WAY! Anette has the range of two Tarjas, and is much more versatile. Tarja is, as far as opera singing goes, very poor. Go to a good opera with good professional opera singers and you'll laugh at Tarja from then on. Anette doesn't sing like that by choice, and she's a whole lot better at what she does than Tarja is. Anette actually has one of the widest ranges I've heard in a long time.
