An interesting read, thanks.

Just something I noticed, when the interviewer asked:
You mentioned that you started playing music at 7 years old. What was your first instrument?

But what Ville had said earlier, was:
When I started playing music when I was about 13 or 14, I had about 7 bands going on at the same time.

I think he meant he started playing in bands at 13 or 14 and started playing an istrument at 7 or 8. Either that or he is full of shit.

No, they spelled it right. "Bare" would be "unclothed", and bear would be as in "bear a burden".

Did you read the part in the interview where he said that though? He wasn't really being a prick, he was just saying he was glad to write all the music even though his band mates don't.

I personally think they have no where to go but up. Though I do miss the Love Metal and Razorblade Romance days, as Ville changes, so does his music, and that's what is awesome about HIM. I can't wait to see what comes next, and Venus Doom is f**king AMAZING.

He was blushing about all us loyal fans. Aww, how cute.

And I am so glad he has as much fun making music as I do listening to it

So, in closing. I can't wait to see them, and their future looks rather bright as of now =)

I agree. I saw them at the Sasquatch festival at the Gorge in 2005 with NIN and it was not a very impressive live performance. Their studio tracks don't seem to translate live very well.

I guess everyone has different tastes, but I really liked Dark Light, not too sure about Venus Doom, it hasn't instantly grabbed me like Dark Light did.

Some people evidently prefer the old stuff, but I rate DL alongside love metal and razorblade romance

Love Metal IS the best album thay have made.
Greatest Lovesongs Vol.666 had the most personal sound but few tracks worent that great.

Now the Venus Doom album is above afrige but with all albums exept DL in my CD rack i think i dont own the band anything anymore..
Cant say that i wod buy real one.

Venus Doom still tops Razorblade Romance

I seriously can't see how you guys can pay him out. So what if the music he writes doesn't appeal to you. It doesn't make him crappy musician. And really all that he wants to do is express himself through music 'Song or Suicide' and it's just his way of dealing with hard times. Personally i like HIM i think they are extremelly talented and i think Valo is much more grounded than you think, he realises his faults which takes a lot of courage and strength and whats even stronger he decides to do something about them!

Dark Light was indeed a letdown, it was well-conceived and proffessional but boring and nothing innovative. But Ville is still a very good song writer and everyone who's spoken to him seem to think he's a really cool guy, even those who can't stand his music. I have a lot of respect for the guy, even though I don't listen to HIM as much as I used to.

HIM is the kind of band that all the fat 'goth' girls listen to because it makes them feel better about themselves. When I say goth, I mean mainstream nu-metal monkeys who think they are 'goth' by wearing black n' stuff. I mean c'mon, HIM is like borderline Synth-Pop! I wouldn't hate them so much if the fat girls who listened to them didn't label themselves as 'emo' or 'goth' and just dressed like average people.
POSTED: 10/13/2007 - 08:48 pm / quote |
PurpleDinosaur :
Why let the fat emo girls dictate your opinion of them? You should determine that on your own, based on how good their music is to you.

Anyway, This is all old news to me... I've got the book Reinhardt Haydn wrote about HIM and pretty much all of this was included in it, minus the stuff about Venus Doom.

Cheers for Ville on being sober, hopefully that'll give him more stage presence... at Projekt Revo. he had absolutely NONE. They're still my favorite band, though, I've yet to get tired of them.

That's kinda lame of you. A lot of Children of Bodom fans are elitistic a-holes but that doesn't change my opinion of the band, and just as a lot of HIM fans are very annoying that has nothing to do with the band itself. I'd say the really annoying part about these people is that they try to be alternative by conforming to the emo uniform, or trying to stand out from that uniform by claiming to be goth, while still only listening to Fallout Boy. It's perfectly fine with me if you just want to be original and not spend years analyzing everything it takes to be a part of a certain subculture, but unless you do then don't claim to be part of one.

Thats a horrible thing to say. I bet their whole fan base isn't "fat emo/goth girls"
Theres different people who like them, and if you don't then just shut up about it. You don't have to go on complaining about band in front of people who actually like their music.
And there are no "average people". Every person is different and its just pathetic that they have to label themselves and dress accordingly. Just be yourself.

and i hate you fags who where HIM t-shirts and Heartagram wristband just because Bam does, Fuck that *******, HIM is an amazing band and if you don't listen to them, take thier damn shirt of you emo poser, and HIM isnt Goth, Synth pop, Alternative or EMO, it's just HIM, thats it HIM, His Infernal Fucking Majesty.and Ville is a great songwriter and musician, and i feel for the guy, i relate to his suffering 100%. Ville fuels my personal musical ambitions, and HIM is the main inspiration for every song i write.

And Love Metal is a good album, But this beats it by a long shot, Venus doom is Way Better. The Vocals, Solos, Harmonies, Guitars, Drums, Everything is improved, ive been a fan of HIM since before thier first album even came out and i can really see how much every individual in the whole band hasimproved.

From GLS.666 to Dark Light, alot of genres and different sounds where used in HIM's vast array of amazing songs, but it seem s that they've found thier "Groove" on Venus Doon. It's a truly remarkable album, i love it.

I think Ville is strong both mentally and spiritually to come through these rough times so quick without a trace of imperfection, he comes out 100% every time he falls into his everso famous "Depression Mode". Ville seems to have a mood cycle, but it was more extreme on both ends this time. He fell way harder, and recovered way better. Ville, i love you man, keep puttin your heart into it!!!!

Its just the Metallica fans there that were total retards. No matter if their fans are 'fat goth girls' like sum of you haters said, which isnt true, they have a diverse variety of fans. Haters are seriously wasting their time, because HIM is here to stay, with loads of dedicated fans, and thats all that matters. Venus Doom, in my opinion is the 2nd best theyve done. RR was best and Love Metal is 3rd, and yes Dark Light is last. But all of their albums are great. Great songwriting from Ville, and they have a sound that sets em apart from all bands. Truly awesome band. Haters are just pieces of shit that have nothing better to do than comment on things they dont like because they are miserable bastards who like to bring everyone down because they are pathetic losers.

Actually, this isint an actual interview by UG. I have seen this interview somewhere else. He meant he first played an instrument at the age of 7, but began playing in a band -seriously- at 13 or 14.

Dont be a douche.
