Massive interview but there's some cool stuff.

He seems like a nice guy - wants and likes what he wants and doens't give a shit about anything else

Blackmore is awesome. Deff. paved the way for Vai and Rhoads.

Blackmore's Night is very good too, i recommend giving them a listen.

Wow...that has to be the most critical guitarist I've ever read about. He's good no doubt, but very condencending.

Every source going says he's a bit of a jerk, but he's obviously a pretty intelligent, articulate jerk. And his guitar playing (Especially on "In Rock") is mindblowing.

damn strait. blackmore is one of the greatest guitar players ever. he was also a big influence for the neo classical/shredders like malmsteen. and rainbow was an amazing band too although i only like the music from when dio was in the band.

blackmore is easily my favorite guitarist besides clapton, paige, hendrix, and stevie ray vaughn. he is the guitarist for one of my favorite bands and wrote some of my favorite songs such as 'lazy'

blackmore rules. and theres nothing more to it

Definatly my favorite player from the 70's. Everybody says "Sabbath, Sabbath, Sabbath, they invented metal." It's all about the Purple.

Blackmores a great guitar player, but I doubt if I could ever be in a band with him. He is a little difficult.

Its called 'lets put the most popular guys at the top of the list then %90 of people who actually buy this rip off magazine can agree with us and think we are good and know our stuff and buy many more magazines'.

Just giving the majority of people what they want to see. All marketing and nothing to do with talent unfortunately. Guys like Page and Hendrix are lucky they are liked/respected so much or had enough hits and the right marketing in the first place, because if they didnt you can bet they wouldnt be in the top 10 either.
Blackmore will never get enough credit because he always had/has poor management and even some of it can be blamed on him for treating journalists.... well.. they way he did.
He had enough radio friendly hits with Bonnet, Turner and even white era's of Rainbow to make something of it but failed. In the end could have just stuck to the Dio sound.

I grew up with Purple's music, being a teenager back then. Looking back, it was great at the time, but Blackmore's guitar work doesn't seem so cool anymore. I nowadays prefer to listen to guys like Rory Gallagher.

I always had the impression that Blackmore was more than a little up himself, but that doesn't show much in this interview. The tensions onstage were a little more overt!

I didn't really get such the bad vibe that was described by the interviewer - he's obviously a little up-himself, but not so rude - but you probably had to be there to really feel it.
Nice interview, keep them coming; they're really interesting.

Kentris.5 :
I hated the way the writer described Blackmore's Night, "an inane and passionless conglomeration of some sort of Baroque rock." I've listened to quite a bit of his stuff with that group, and if you have any fondness at all for classical/baroque music it's really entertaining.

thirteenburn :
Great interview, if for no other reason than to further prove that Blackmore is a tool. He's an excellent guitarist, no doubt about it, but he's a full-blown tool and it's one of the reasons that he's looked down upon by the music industry and media alike. I can't count how many times I've read something about a beef he's got going with someone and 98% of the time, you read the other side's story and with plenty of proof to back them up, they show how much of tool Blackmore really is.

Regardless of what I feel about this wanker personally, does NOT detract one iota from his talent. He's inspired so many great guitarists over the decades, both famous and not so famous, it's just too bad he has to be such a douche bag.

Sorry but I call 'em like I see 'em. And again, so there is no confusion here - I LOVE his playing, his phrasing, his technique - everything. He's the consumate guitarist but he's one Grade-A, USDA Prime a-hole, bottom line, hands down and more people agree with that statement, and have echoed that statement than those who don't, so I feel that I'm not being to "critical" of Blackmore, just honest.

All that being said, I think I'll go drop 'Machine Head' on the platter-spinner and listen to some outstanding fretwork.

Cheers!
