that man can speak unspoken thruths.

the best part was about speed. it doesn't matter how fast you play its about what you can say with your notes if u can tell it slow but rock then its perfect too, best saying ever

The guitar is something you can take on the beach, put on the plane, take it to the bedroom…and if you have a fight with your wife, it’s the first thing you reach for. It’s a psychiatrist, a maid, a prostitute, it’s everything.

That right there is unadulterated truth. God bless his soul. Thank you and R.I.P.

This is a really good set of interviews. It seemed like EVH kept trying to speak out and Les Paul would just tell him to settle down in a subtle way.

that was one hell of a read, and quite frankly, amazing. i never had any idea how influential this man is, and ironically, after his death, his true genius comes to light. truly a sad loss to the music community, and i have all the respect in the world for him. he sounds like he was a great guy.

"Van Halen: It’s kind of like the car business— Toyota woke up GM"

I personally disagree with that statement and lost a bit of respect for EVH...I'm a GM man and despise Toyota for their imported JUNK!

Wow.
Best interview i've ever read. EVH seems to be a little young for this interview, I mean, it seems he wasn't totally mature when this interview was taken.
But some of what Les said was just... unbelievable. I can't believe I didn't know any of this until now. I feel like an idiot. But the man lived a better life than almost anybody.
RIP Les.

That's one of the best interviews I've ever read on UG. Wow.

He really does give you an insight into how he thinks with every answer of every question. He had this fantastic mind, and when you think of all he has done and achieved, it's mind boggling.

Van Halen's banter with LP about Leo Fender and guitars was great, because if Eddie hadn't piped up in the interview, we might not have known all about the relationship between Les and Leo Fender, which is nice to know seeing as both men lived so close together and they pioneered the electric guitar and built the two most popular types of guitar.

R.I.P Les Paul

he will go to heaven and he'll become the "guitar god" or something like that, i mean, the guy really did something for music industry, even tough the music industry barely cares, and kids nowadays dont really care about how cool guys were in the past or what he did for them... whatever , we can only hope that will change someday
anyway we'll miss you dude, good luck on whats to come (whatever thats supposed to mean =/)

Speed is the least important of all. Anybody can sit down and practice until they get to play fast. But it’s what you’re saying that’s so important.

you know jimihendrix was a great loss to the guitar/heavy rock world, randy roads was a tremendous loss to the metal world, along with freddie mercury, john lennon and george harrison, and all the the other metal, heavr rock, rock n' roll artist that have past through the era's, they have deffied rules and records alike, but the loss of Les Paul is tragic, the world of guitarist will for ever mourn, if it wornt for his genious in the creation of the electric guitar our music wouldnt have advanced to the point that it has today, i think that, even though in not a guy that plays with a les paul, but with an explorer i feel that as of the day of his death i as a guitarist and metal head, i feel obligated in buying the guitar that started it all. i speak for my self and as for every othe, rocker/metal head like, we will miss you Les Paul, and we will for ever remember you.

Idiot_Son :
the death of Les Paul is not a 'tragedy' as people keep saying, because he gave us his legacy, and we don't have the 'what if' that you had with hendrix, etc. He was a true legend, and he had a great run, 94 and still regularly performing live. but calling this a tragedy is implying that he was actually expected to live forever.

yea, GM's fuel guzzling, rollover prone, high explosives are so much better than actual cars that work. you are just racist.
