why do people complain about reading stuff about guitars? i can understand reading the Divine Comedy and all near 40 cantos of Dante's Inferno. Or maybe some Edith Hamilton's Mythology, but, if you want to get better at the guitar, u will sit down and read and practice. Get use to it

Archang0l :
and when i threw in those books, i meant, i can understand complaining about those, but i don't understand complaining about music. There is so much to music, that you have to read! even tabs you have to read..they're just easier!

noodles_wazaman :
I read the first chunk by that Howard Dude and it is pretty useful in terms of understanding chords. I'm stuffed if i know how i'll use it in my playing but it certainly helps you understand where things are coming from and why this is this etc. Also I never understood key signatures in notation before or the circle of fifths but it makes a lot more sense after reading that. Plus the bit I read is only about half of the stuff up there.

HoRoR :
I was trying to make chords in Drop-D tuning (CGCFAD)... I know C Major, for example, is CEG, but how do I go about applying notes to strings, e.g. could I have C,E,G,C,E,G(from 6th-1st string) - the article above is very comprehensive, but I got a bit lost at that point... I notice it mentions something about Major being 1,5,1,3,5,1 or 5,1,5,1,3,5 or 1,3,5,1,3,?, so is that the order (e.g. C,G,C,E,G,C), or am I as confused as I sound here?

One of the most useful articles I've seen on the internet.

To those complaining about lengths, you guys are mostly impatient idiots :/ Have you ever seen any music theory books? You'll see that they are a LOT longer, some of which are a lot harder to understand too. If you're wanting to succeed as a musician then you'll need to LEARN theory, which is a very hefty task. The manner in which this is written is so it is easy to understand, unlike in the aforementioned theory books. I also like how you incorporated the guitar into it, whereas I usually see theory books written with piano examples only.

Congrats on article, I need to get through it and get learning.

Is drop - D tuning not regluar tuning with just the low E tuned down to D ie. (DADGBE)?

Good though there is no such thing as a "flat" seventh. It makes more sense to call it a minor seventh then a flat seventh. Interval names are either minor major diminished augmented or perfect.
