Warm Up Game

Have A Guitar Ready, Because This Lessons Easier To Understand If You Play & Follow.

This is a cool finger warm up exercise that my jam buddy and me made into a game when we 1st started playing guitar.

This game has Levels that you must try to reach. You can creat your own levels but you must past the previous one before moving on!

I recommend it for all ranks, Novice, Intermediates and Advance!

So its realy simple!

LEVEL 1

Start off on fret 1,
with your 1st finger on the lower E-string,
Then place your 2nd finger on fret 2 of the lower E-string.
Do it again with your 3rd finger on the 3rd Fret,
And finaly with your 4th finger place it on the 4th fret.

Now repeat this sequence but start off on fret 2 of the lower E-string,

Example:

1st finger = 2nd fret, 2nd finger = 3rd fret,
3rd finger = 4th fret, 4th finger = 5th fret.

When you've done that start on fret 3 and repeate the sequence,
and keep moving up the fretboard until you reach
fret 12 with your little pinky

It should look like this.

E|-------------------------------------------------------
B|-------------------------------------------------------
G|-------------------------------------------------------
D|-------------------------------------------------------
A|-------------------------------------------------------
E|--1-2-3-4----2-3-4-5----3-4-5-6----4-5-6-7----5-6-7-8--

  -------------------------------------------------------
  -------------------------------------------------------
  -------------------------------------------------------
  -------------------------------------------------------
  -------------------------------------------------------
  --6-7-8-9----7-8-9-10----8-9-10-11----9-10-11-12-------

Start this off slow, then speed up.
use a Click to help you.
IF YOU MISS A NOTE OR HIT A DODGY NOTE YOU MUST START FROM FRET 1 AGAIN!

Level 2

Once you mastered Level 1, do the same thing, but alternate between strings.

E|--------------------------------------------------------------------------
B|--------------------------------------------------------------------------
G|--------------------------------------------------------------------------
D|--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A|-----------1-2-3-4-----------2-3-4-5-----------3-4-5-6-----------4-5-6-7--
E|--1-2-3-4-----------2-3-4-5-----------3-4-5-6-----------4-5-6-7-----------

  --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  -----------5-6-7-8-----------6-7-8-9------------7-8-9-10------------------
  --5-6-7-8-----------6-7-8-9-----------7-8-9-10------------8-9-10-11-------

  ---------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------
  --8-9-10-11--------------9-10-11-12----------------
  -------------9-10-11-12----------------------------

And remember...
IF YOU MISS A NOTE OR HIT A DODGY NOTE YOU MUST START FROM FRET 1 AGAIN!

Level 3

This is like level 1, but your working your way down from fret 12.
So place your 4th finger (your pinky) on fret 12 on the lower E-STRING,
Then your 3rd finger on 11, then 2nd finger on 10 and finaly 1st finger on 9
Repeat THIS sequence untill you reach fret 1 with your main (1st) finger!

E|-------------------------------------------------------------------------
B|-------------------------------------------------------------------------
G|-------------------------------------------------------------------------
D|-------------------------------------------------------------------------
A|-------------------------------------------------------------------------
E|--12-11-10-9----11-10-9-8----10-9-8-7----9-8-7-6----8-7-6-5-----7-6-5-4--

  -----------------------------------
  -----------------------------------
  -----------------------------------
  -----------------------------------
  -----------------------------------
  --6-5-4-3----5-4-3-2----4-3-2-1----

Remember, IF YOU MISS A NOTE OR HIT A DODGY NOTE YOU MUST START FROM FRET 12 AGAIN!

Level 4

Is level 2, but working you way backwards like we did in level 3.

E|--------------------------------------------------------------------------
B|--------------------------------------------------------------------------
G|--------------------------------------------------------------------------
D|--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A|--12-11-10-9--------------11-10-9-8-------------10-9-8-7------------------
E|--------------12-11-10-9-------------11-10-9-8------------10-9-8-7--------

  --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  --9-8-7-6-----------8-7-6-5-----------7-6-5-4-----------6-5-4-3-----------
  -----------9-8-7-6-----------8-7-6-5-----------7-6-5-4-----------6-5-4-3--

  --------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------
  --5-4-3-2-----------4-3-2-1-----------------
  -----------5-4-3-2-----------4-3-2-1--------

And once again, IF YOU MISS A NOTE OR HIT A DODGY NOTE YOU MUST START FROM FRET 12 AGAIN!

Level 5

This is where you start to make up the rules yourself.
I use to do a 'zig-zag' formation next.
I did frets 1-4, then 2-5, went back to 1-4, then 2-5, then moved onto 3-4,
went back to 2-5, then 3-4, moved onto then 4-5, went back to 3-4, then 4-5,
then 5-6...

... You see a pattern emerging here?

well it looks like this, but as I say you can make up your own game now :)

E|--------------------------------------------------------------------
B|--------------------------------------------------------------------
G|--------------------------------------------------------------------
D|--------------------------------------------------------------------
A|--------------------------------------------------------------------
E|--1-2-3-4----2-3-4-5----1-2-3-4----2-3-4-5----3-4-5-6----2-3-4-5----

  --------------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------------
  --------------------------------------------------------------------
  --3-4-5-6----4-5-6-7----3-4-5-6----4-5-6-7----5-6-7-8----4-5-6-7----

  ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  --5-6-7-8----6-7-8-9----5-6-7-8----6-7-8-9----7-8-9-10----6-7-8-9----

  ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  --7-8-9-10----8-9-10-11----7-8-9-10----8-9-10-11----9-10-11-12-------

Your next level could be alternating in the 'zig-zag' formation. Then Introducing the 'D-string'

But ye, Take it easy at 1st, or whatever you feel a comfortable speed is.
Then push yourself, the main thing here is to increase the speed each time.
EVENTUALLY you'l be shredding from fret 1-12 and back again :)

Best of luck, TomZen - 'State Of Error' Guitarist

Well, you should have an exercise on ALL 6 strings instead of 1 or 2.

If 2 strings is not enough, you can try and play it by, for example, play the first note on E -string, second note on A -string, third note on D -string etc. This idea with string skipping would be to skip every second string.

And in string skipping you go on the fourth note back to the low E -string.

This is really cool. I'm going to try it when I get home after work, but I'm going to incorporate all six strings, as protabber123 suggested. I'll let you guys know how it works.

I told you guys I would let ya'll know how this works out. I love the idea. I use it everytime I pick my guitar up, and I change the string and fret pattern everytime. Very useful.
