I got all of these exercises from John Petrucci's Rock Discipline DVD. The point is not to develop speed on these exercises but merely to familiarize your fingers with the fretboard. NOTE: use alternate picking for all of the exercises.

With each of the exercises you can reverse the picking (i.e. start on an upstroke instead of downstroke). To make the exercise less tedious you can move the root around and form a progression. Petrucci has his root going from:
A -> C -> E -> C# --> G --> B --> F#
or
5 -> 8 -> 12 -> 9 -> 3 -> 7 -> 2Combination Exercises

down, up, down, up, down, up...etc with your right hand while you play the notes with your left.
it let's you play so much faster. so let's say you're playing an f scale in first position starting on the f on the low e sting. you would go down on the f, up on the g, down on the a, up on the Bb, down on the c, up on the d,...etc.POSTED: 08/01/2006 - 10:44 pm / quote |

you're playing each note individually, you aren't holding any two notes down at the same time. so say you're starting on the low A (5th fret) and then hitting the higher A in harmony (7th fret. if you start on the low A with your index finger, all you're other fingers would be up. then hit the higher A with your ring finger. (now all other fingers aren't touching the fretboard except your ring finger.
answer your question?POSTED: 08/01/2006 - 10:47 pm / quote |

However, if you want my House of Wolves in there, send me a PM/email and I'll check it over once and send it to you

i thought "Heaven! Help Us" was on the album. oh well.
Yay "Cancer"'s a great song.
I thougth "Kill All Your Friends" was called "Blood". Thanks for telling me the real name.
[11/23/2006 - 01:39 pm] by The Spoon : |
Kill All Your Friends is actually Teenagers. (The names connect see?) And Heaven Help Us is a b-side as someone said.
and i think the little bridge thing in Dead!, (The part where he's like omg! theres a complication in ur heart!) is just like the verse
[11/23/2006 - 01:39 pm] by The Spoon : |
oh yea, great job!
[11/23/2006 - 01:48 pm] by The Spoon : |
damn i wish it would let me erase comments, forget my earlier statement about Kill All Your Friends. According to Wikipedia, it might be a b-side to the Famous Last Words single. They've already finished shooting the video!!!
sorry for spamming up these boards
