Palm Muting Exercises

Okay I'm going to start by saying that you should learn how to palm mute before you read this. These are practice riffs to master the technique. I'm not going to bother explaining how to do it as you can learn it else where. Heres a list of some handy well-known riffs to show off your palm muting ability and get your skills up. The Easiest example I can think of is the part of Eminem - Lose Yourself. Not hard but it'll give you an idea of the sound.

Here is a small power chord example from Black Sabbath - Parnoid. Nothing fancy.

note: remember that the notes on the d string are not palm muted in this particular song. This example is from Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the Name Of. This one will get you used to moving around those top 3 strings excellentlly.

Here is a little scale from Metallica - Master of Puppets. Personally i think it sounds awesome. Get used to moving your fingers like this. Its a good warm up riff.

Palm muting sounds great in heavy songs or when emphasis is need for the song. Try get speed with it, especially with power chords if your playing metal or hard rock. enjoy.
