First of all, this is my first lesson, so please go easy on me, second, I am not going to cover all rhyming pattern, because there are probably a thousand in the world, I am just going to cover the basics, that I have discover. So let get started!
1. The first one I'd like to introduce is very simple, it is just that, every two lines rhyme, like line A will rhyme with line B and line C will rhyme with line D. e.g
"Run To The Hills". Iron Maiden. The Number Of The Beast
White man came across the sea,
Brought us pain and misery,
Killed our tribes, killed our creed,
Took our game for his own need.
Usually it is only used with four lines, but it can be extended to pretty much any number of lines, just make sure it is an even amount. e.g
"War Pigs". Black Sabbath. Paranoid
Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of deaths construction
In the fields are bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brain-washed minds
2. The second is where the a line rhymes with the one after the one after it, if you get me. So line A would rhyme with line C and line B would rhyme with line D. e.g
"Rocket Queen". Guns N' Roses. Appetite For Destruction
If I say don't need anyone,
I can say these things to you,
'Cause I can turn on anyone,
Just like I've turned on you
(This can be extended as well)
(Rocket Queen Continued)
I've got a tongue like a razor,
A sweet switchblade knife,
And I can do you favours,
But then you'll do whatever I like!
3. The third is when only every second line rhymes, this is very similar to number 2, but line B would rhyme with line D, but lines A and C would not rhyme. e.g.
"Get Out The Door". Velvet Revolver. Libertad
Come on closer,
Won't you tell me what you got?
Wait a minute girl,
You're something that you're not
This can be extended also. e.g.
"Sleep Now In The Fire". Rage Against The Machine. The Battle Of Los Angeles
For it's the end of history,
It's caged and frozen still,
There is no other pill to take,
So swallow the one, that made you ill!
The noose and the rapist
The fields overseer
The agents of orange
The priests of hiroshima!
4. Number four consists of six lines minimum, lines A-F, lines A-B rhyme, lines D-E rhymes and line C and F rhyme. e.g.
"Socio". Stone Sour. Come What(ever)May
I don't know what's wrong,
It's like I'm to far gone,
It doesn't matter anyway!
Fear is in my heart,
Just when I stop it starts,
I could never live this way!
5. Number five is where every line in the verse, chorus, paragraph, whatever rhymes. e.g.
"Sleep Now In The Fire". Rage Against The Machine. The Battle Of Los Angeles
I am the Nina!
The Pita!
The Santa Maria!
6. Number six is where they just say the same line over and over. e.g.
"Bulls On Parade". Rage Against The Machine. Evil Empire
Rally round the family, with pockets full of shells
Rally round the family, with pockets full of shells
Rally round the family, with pockets full of shells
Rally round the family, with pockets full of shells
or
"Killing In The Name". Rage Against The Machine. Rage Against The Machine
Now you do what they told ya!
Now you do what they told ya!
Now you do what they told ya!
Now you do what they told ya!
or
"Killing In The Name". Rage Against The Machine. Rage Against The Machine (Continued)
f--k you! I won't do what you tell me!
f--k you! I won't do what you tell me!
f--k you! I won't do what you tell me!
f--k you! I won't do what you tell me!
7. Where the lyrics don't rhyme at all!
"American Man". Velvet Revolver. Libertad
Freedom the naked power
Weakened by the ages
Raped but not forgotten
All it's supple secrets
That is about it, but just remember, there are a lot more out there, I hope this can help you!
