############# HELPFUL TIP ############# When you read a tab on Ultimate Guitar, the song might be played in Power chords only, but sometimes the User neglects to mention this and common sense indicates that you try to play the chords in their full form, which could be more difficult. If you read chords that are difficult to play, switch to Power chords and that should make it easier. (For a complete list of Power chords, look in some of my earlier Lessons) ############# HELPFUL TIP ############# Sometimes when you read through a song, the chords are in such a way that might be difficult to play. For example if you need to play A5. This could be played as x022xx or as 577xxx. In my opinion I find it easier to play 577xxx instead of the other because if you want to play 577xxx then you just move your hand down the fretboard, whereas with x022xx you need to change your fingering and strings. Also, the strings are tighter up there because they are close to the nut which makes it harder to press them down to the frets. This also works with other Power chords that might take a lot of movement. ################ FINGER PICKING ################ I won't go into too much detail with this as there are so many methods to this. As well as this I NEVER play without a pick because I always clip my finger skin or chip the skin below my nail. But for the Beginners' sakes I will give a breakdown of finger picking. Basically finger picking is just playing guitar without a pick (plectrum). I will say that it it is relatively easy and some people actually prefer this to using a pick. As I said before, there are many methods of finger picking but here is my method: Use your thumb and fingers to pick each string individually. Usually the thumb takes care of the low E string and sometimes the A string while the index and middle fingers take care of the other strings. If you wanted to strum, there are also any methods of finger strumming. There is the Rasguado type of strumming (covered later). You may find it easy to put your thumb and index finger together and strum over all the strings like that. Find the way that works for you.
