Reviews are bullshit either way. They are only a point of view in a lot of senses - not exactly fact.
POSTED: 11/01/2006 05:28am

I am torn into two thoughts on this album. I find it incredibly intrestiung to listen to and at times incredibly boring.
Yes this is new territory and has moments of abserloute brilliance, but times when you wish they would rip out some hard riffs and vocals which we are so used to in previous albums.

I think eveyone will have a different opinion about this album.

I must admit i still love the deftones of old, around the fur and adrenaline are awesome albums, miss that rugged hard rock sound.
POSTED: 11/01/2006 05:36pm

in a way i think theyve kinda like tool. And i say this more in terms of their fanbase then their sound. It seems to me like the format of their music makes their fans believe that ANYTHING they put out is for a reason regardless. I gave a short listen to it up at sam ash the other when this one guy had it blasting in the store. I asked him if that was it and he felt about it and all that. He said this band could do no wrong and all that. But i had to disagree with him. I told him that some of their stuff is just way too boring and i told i couldnt see how they would play those songs on stage. So i sat back and listened to about 4 tracks of the album, and i was fairly(especially after hearing how badly chino sounded at family values this year. It was the worse ive heard him do live). But i think that stigma that goes with the fighting and shi+ made me feel like it was all so force and i wonder if they truely even had a grip with exactly what they were writing. And some people will try to say "oh well thats pure emotion" but i truely think thats b.s. After I listen to the CD I'll make my judgement, because something tells me the people that reviewed this all felt the same way as the dude as sam ash. They could do no wrong.
POSTED: 11/02/2006 10:22am

ready4thebreak what are you talking about man? like any other band they will have really hardcore fans that believe anything they do is the best but if you heard anything or listened to the deftones self titled CD you'd know they could do something wrong. Im not totally dissing the CD but it was not very good compared to the albums. As for this CD this wether it is "forced" like you said or not is still really good. Compared to the music now this is really good stuff. The CD is no white pony but it comes close
POSTED: 11/02/2006 12:42pm

Oh for ****s sake, Deftones are not Screamo!!!! my god, they were around way before emo and screamo as defined by what they are, they should not be put in that category its insulting to them...they're roots are hardcore, and when they came out they could be classed as Neo-Hardcore, but got grouped in the nu metal genre as Around The Fur did branch into that style but they have never been one genre and always develop their sound, they're unique, and awesome, and as a Deftones fan from the beginning i felt i had to say something on the screamo comment. Don't write a review if you don't know what your talking about..dick
POSTED: 11/02/2006 01:06pm

oh and p.s. i am a hardcore deftones fan, but i can happily admit their self titld effort was far from a great classic deftones album, i havent actually heard their new one yet but will buy it.
people need to underdtand the fact of a band maturing and moving on. Yea, its cool to have a band do their debut album and sound awesome and we all hope that their next album sounds similar to it but not exactly like that. If it did, it would just be boring. For example, Linkin Park. Hybrid Theory was great, because it was a new sound. Meteora, not so great, because it was the exact duplicate of their first CD. Not that I'm comparing Deftones to linkin park, but thats just an example of why bands need to evolve from what they've created their first round. Personally, I love SNW. Its everything that I would expect from Deftones because it's not the same thing as their previous releases. So kudos to Deftones for a great and beautiful sounding album!!!
POSTED: 11/06/2006 01:48am

This review sucked. Sounds like a 14 year old kid wrote it.

Hole In The Earth” is actually somewhat disappointing because in some ways it sounds like plenty of other bands

In Some ways? What The Fu ck? Please, tell us in what ways next time, good god.

This review is useless, people. Saturday Night Wrist is a great album. The only problem is that there isnt emough of Abe Cunningham's "sophisticated
off beat" drumming. I dont know how to describe it but if you're a Deftones fan you'll know what I'm talking about.
and when they came out they could be classed as Neo-Hardcore
Thats the stupid thing I've heard all day. Honestly.

Go buy this album Deftones Fans! You'll love yourself for it!
POSTED: 11/06/2006 07:52am

Oh for ****s sake, Deftones are not Screamo!!!! my god, they were around way before emo and screamo as defined by what they are, they should not be put in that category its insulting to them...they're roots are hardcore, and when they came out they could be classed as Neo-Hardcore, but got grouped in the nu metal genre as Around The Fur did branch into that style but they have never been one genre and always develop their sound, they're unique, and awesome, and as a Deftones fan from the beginning i felt i had to say something on the screamo comment. Don't write a review if you don't know what your talking about..dick

I was under the impression they were Deftones. Apparently I was wrong.
Don't label.
POSTED: 12/04/2006 05:57pm

I was dissapointed with the new album at first, I also thought it lacked any singles. But I've come to realise it isn't about that with the deftones. Sure, we all enjoy how catchy the 'My Own Summer' riff is, but I've grown to appriciate Chino's beautiful poetic lyrics and the complex song structures.
P.S. Why does it seem like everyone is against the self titled album? It was the first Deftones album I heard and it's still my firm favourite now after hearing the entire back catalogue a hundred times over! I mean, Bloody Cape for god's sake! Amazing!
POSTED: 03/19/2007 08:27pm

Definitely one of the best albums I bought. It kept me entertained. I like the sounds they bring to their music, although somewhat different from some of their previous work.. But the lyrics were awesome. I especially liked the lyrics to "Mein".
POSTED: 04/22/2007 09:09am
