The music may have helped, but, personally, I think that if I were a wolf on the verge of attacking somebody, and they started flailing their arms screaming and acting crazy, I wouldn't **** with them.

I don't hate Creed or anything like that, though. I just find it a bit weird that they're apparently being credited with saving a kid's life when I'm fairly certain that neither they nor their music had much to do with it.

The kid's pretty smart, though. If it were me, I'd probably just piss myself, cry, and let those wolves slaughter me.

That may be, but I don't listen to Creed for the lyrics, I like them because of Tremonti. I really think their first album actually had something to offer lyrically though, and its the only one I actually like. I also agree there are way better artists out there who don't get enough attention. Anyway I'm glad you actually gave pretty good reasons, even though I don't agree with all of them (i.e. idiot rock).

Creed sound great until Scott Stapp starts to sing. I think that is what rubs a lot of non-creed fans the wrong way. He started as a pale imitaion of some kind of Eddie Vedder vocal tone and progressively emphasized it more and more over time.
If not for the forced, annoying tone of voice (hell, maybe he just sounds that way, just my opinion), seeing how he acts in real life just kind of ruined it for me. Has anyone seen him on those celebrity poker tournaments acting like a TOTAL douche? I bet you can youtube it. Really now... he acts like he is so ****ing cool. He even gets made fun of by fellow contestants and females. Scott Stapp, i feel, was always the weakest part of Creed.....IN MY OPINION

Also, it's helps to note that wolf attacks almost never happen unless they're provoked. You attack one, corner it, or otherwise give it any reason to think you're a threat and whatever happens is your fault.

In all probability, four wolves walking past a kid probably wouldn't consider him enough of a threat to attack, or else you'd have a helluva lot more people dying via wolf mauling. This is just stupid journalism.. there wasn't even a witness, and the kid was only "afraid" that they would attack him. Same outcome would've occurred with or without Creed.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure that screaming as loud as he could and flailing his arms had much more to do with it than the music.

The music may have helped, but, personally, I think that if I were a wolf on the verge of attacking somebody, and they started flailing their arms screaming and acting crazy, I wouldn't **** with them.

I don't hate Creed or anything like that, though. I just find it a bit weird that they're apparently being credited with saving a kid's life when I'm fairly certain that neither they nor their music had much to do with it.

The kid's pretty smart, though. If it were me, I'd probably just piss myself, cry, and let those wolves slaughter me.

it was probably his screaming that scared them away, but the music probably helped get him pumped enough to stand up to the wolves. i know id need some motivation if i was going to try and act tough to them.

sigh...fine here's my critique, it's just boringly obvious where their faults are, but you asked for it. Creed overall as a band have a very monotonous sound, their singer sounds like he's constipated and he has no range, the lyrics are very generic, their guitarist is over-rated(I'll get to him in a minute), the other musicians in the band are there just for the sake of simply being there, they add no dimension to the sound whatsoever.

Being that this is a guitar site, I'll dis-mantle his technique. In terms of soloing, it sounds like he can't do much outside of the pentatonic scale, his flourishes are limited to hammer-ons and pull offs, as far as I can tell he can't sweep pick or tap very well if at all, he doesn't do anything amazing with his right hand technique, his fretboard exploration is very limited and in terms of innovation he hasn't done jack s.hit.

Can I make a video of me taking a dump on a creed album instead and send it to you? That seems like a better use of my time.

Bashing other bands is the lowest of the low in my book. And to think, some of you actually call yourselves music fans...absolutely pathetic.


Actually we all want to hear it. I love all of the creative ways UG users bash other bands, Creed especially because they suck oh so much.
You should probably make the distinction between 'music fan' and musician. Musicians can critique music much more efficiently being that we actually know how to play. Personally, I can play any piece of creeds music in my f.uckin sleep. They suck so much it breaks my heart, but I gain solace in the fact that their shitiness transcends species(special?) barriers.

Lol, just because you're a musician doesn't give you an upper hand in bashing other peoples' musical tastes. It gives you a more thorough opinion, yes, but when does having a more educated opinion give you the right to bash other people's opinions? Never, and I don't know what upside down world you live in where it does.

I can sense already you're a very egotistical musician. You'll come back down to earth eventually.....hopefully.....

Actually, anyone adult enough to know how condescendingly stupid it is to straight bash someone could tell you they don't want to hear it, evidently that wouldn't include you. Sure, musicians can critique music and yeah everyone is entitled to an opinion. But, to sit there and say "Yeah Creed sucks oh so bad." For no legitimate form of reasoning is NOT an opinion, it's a stupid remark.

Please, make me a video of YOU playing Creed's "Overcome" guitar solo. I would truly love to see that.


sigh...fine here's my critique, it's just boringly obvious where their faults are, but you asked for it. Creed overall as a band have a very monotonous sound, their singer sounds like he's constipated and he has no range, the lyrics are very generic, their guitarist is over-rated(I'll get to him in a minute), the other musicians in the band are there just for the sake of simply being there, they add no dimension to the sound whatsoever.

Being that this is a guitar site, I'll dis-mantle his technique. In terms of soloing, it sounds like he can't do much outside of the pentatonic scale, his flourishes are limited to hammer-ons and pull offs, as far as I can tell he can't sweep pick or tap very well if at all, he doesn't do anything amazing with his right hand technique, his fretboard exploration is very limited and in terms of innovation he hasn't done jack s.hit.

Can I make a video of me taking a dump on a creed album instead and send it to you? That seems like a better use of my time.

So, not playing any sweeps or tapping makes him a subpar guitar player? Are you joking?

There are some really, really good guitar players that don't use sweep picking as one of their techniques. Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, the list goes on and on...

Nothing amazing with his right hand technique? Again, have you even listened or watched any of Mark Tremonti's work before you said that? Probably not. Michael Angelo Batio himself said that Mark Tremonti has a picking hand capable of playing the fastest death metal riffs ever. He has an extremely fast picking hand, even though he doesn't always show it in his music because it doesn't really fit in, he does show it sometimes like in the breakdown to "Isolation" by Alter Bridge. Plus, he's an amazing riff writer and is extremely creative with his riffs and tunings he uses to create his own unique sound.

Please, actually listen to him play before you mouth off. From what I can tell, you haven't listened to anything Tremonti has written outside of his singles with Creed and Alter Bridge.

Creed didn't necessarily save his life, it could have been any band but it just happened that he was listening to creed, plus he was yelling and flailing his arms anyways which probably helped the most to get rid of the wolves. And i hate creed and i have none of their songs on my ipod. My English teacher played 'with arms wide open' and i took out my ipod almost instantly and listened to rage against the machine.

I agree for the most part. Rap gets a very bad representation from the garbage rap you hear on the radio. If they actually played the good rap and hip-hop on radio, I think it would force a lot of rock/metal fans to be a little more open-minded towards rap and hip hop.

Your first comment was the first one that caught my eye, I went through the comments on here after reading your recent one and would like to apologize for my previous post, I thought just a few bashed creed and you called them idiots just because of the simple fact they do not like them. Most people on here came on here just for the sake of bashing them, and I do agree that those people are idiots with nothing better to do with their time.

As far as my opinion, which I forgot to state in my previous post, I think some of creed's music is decent, but I am not to particularly crazy over it. As far as the article goes, the fact he was listening to creed did not save him from the wolves. If I remember correctly, he was yelling along to the music and it intimidated the wolves. Another group of idiots are the people saying "creed saved a life!!". WRONG, Creed just happened to be what he was listening to, I am sure if he was listening to anything else and did the exact same thing, it would have had the same effect.

@Horsedick.MPEG Let me again, just apologize for my previous post, yours just happened to catch my eye and it came across as condescending (which is something that really bugs me about people) I should have looked at the rest of the comments before I typed my previous one. Also, I agree with the comments that the music probably wasn't THAT loud coming out of a phone's speakers, and the yelling and flailing was probably the main thing that saved his life. Good for him for acting responsibly, and doing the opposite of what most of the drones on here would have done.

I concede, you are right. He can play the same van halen solo in different ways and that makes him a good player and 'unique'. The combination of tremolo picking and using the wah wah gives the illusion of speed when in fact anyone could do it. Hell I could do it when I hit the eighth grade. hahaha his riffs are re-hashed garbage which induce projectile vomiting every time I hear them. Hendrix and Page at least had a range of sounds and were innovators. Tremonti is doing the same old shit you hear every day.

You seem really insecure about their singles. If we were taking a real measure of him then we would have to take into account those god awful singles as it is how everyone knows of them in the first place. At least zeppelin could find a compromise between great musicianship and pop sensibilities in their singles, so don't try and compare Page and Tremonti.

I'll admit he is better than most(I'll go so far as to say he's mediocre, probably a step above sub-par), but so is michael angelo and his music is fluff and I would never consider buying any piece of music he puts out(and btw right hand technique isn't limited to tremolo picking). It's all good though, you must have been programmed as a child to listen to fluff so I won't hold any grudges.

Personally I don't like most of their generic simple music now, lyrics are ok at best, and too many songs fall into their comfort zone of simple song writing.

As for the story, any band would have scared them off, like many people said. Wolves don't like noise much in general, so really any kind of band would have been enough to make them trot off.

No, you're just one of those people that has their elitists opinions and doesn't care what anybody else has to say. We are not just talking about Creed, we are talking about Mark Tremonti now.

Again, you show no proof of actually even listening to this guy outside of the singles he's done. You can't just base your opinion off 15 songs, you have to take all his work into account. Jimmy Page isn't considered a great guitarist because of the works he's known for, he's a great guitarist for all his work in a combined effort with Led Zeppelin along with The Yardbirds. You're stereotyping this this guy.

Listen to some of his work with Alter Bridge. You cannot deny that Tremonti's composition is creative and innovative. No guitarist really sounds like him, he's creative with what he does, he doesn't stick to just a bunch of power chords like most guitarists do...what more can this guy do to make himself unique? His riff writing is also great.

His soloing, okay, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, he's a pretty average solo player. He uses way to much wah and sticks to the same patterns, much like Kirk Hammett, but the difference with Tremonti is that he works very hard to improve himself, he's never satisfied with the way he plays, so his soloing can only get better. Once he reaches the same level with his solo playing as he is with his riff writing, he can be a very top-notch guitar player if he isn't considered one already.

Mark Tremonti himself says he simplifies himself to play for Creed. His real writing is done in Alter Bridge and I strongely suggest you listen to them before you rant off against the guy.

It's probably better than you can do and plus he's probably not even using his normal setup that's why it sounds like crap. The chances are he's playing out of a little Line 6 combo amp they gave him to use for the sake of the video.

It's not a bad sweep lick either and Mark says sweep picking is something he still needs to work on and since when is sweep picking an absolutely necessity to play guitar? It's not and most guitarists that do use sweep picking use it poorly *cough* Synyster Gates *cough*

Only if you utilize sweep picking correctly like let's say Jeff Loomis or Per Nillson does it sound good and in place. Sweep picking is overrated. It's cool if you an do it and utilize it, but if you can't do it, it's no big deal.

Good job, you can take two bits of my critique out of context. You don't have to be able to sweep or tap to be a great guitarist(though it might help), but you should excel in other areas which would indicate what you focus on as a musician, for instance composition, innovation, range etc. Tremonti and creed as a whole lack these qualities.

I concede, you are right. He can play the same van halen solo in different ways and that makes him a good player and 'unique'. The combination of tremolo picking and using the wah wah gives the illusion of speed when in fact anyone could do it. Hell I could do it when I hit the eighth grade. hahaha his riffs are re-hashed garbage which induce projectile vomiting every time I hear them. Hendrix and Page at least had a range of sounds and were innovators. Tremonti is doing the same old shit you hear every day.

You seem really insecure about their singles. If we were taking a real measure of him then we would have to take into account those god awful singles as it is how everyone knows of them in the first place. At least zeppelin could find a compromise between great musicianship and pop sensibilities in their singles, so don't try and compare Page and Tremonti.

I'll admit he is better than most(I'll go so far as to say he's mediocre, probably a step above sub-par), but so is michael angelo and his music is fluff and I would never consider buying any piece of music he puts out(and btw right hand technique isn't limited to tremolo picking). It's all good though, you must have been programmed as a child to listen to fluff so I won't hold any grudges.

Jimmy Page isn't considered a great guitarist because of the works he's known for, he's a great guitarist for all his work in a combined effort with Led Zeppelin along with The Yardbirds. Listen to some of his work with Alter Bridge. You cannot deny that Tremonti's composition is creative and innovative. No guitarist really sounds like him, he's creative with what he does, he doesn't stick to just a bunch of power chords like most guitarists do...what more can this guy do to make himself unique? His soloing, okay, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, he's a pretty average solo player. He uses way to much wah and sticks to the same patterns, much like Kirk Hammett, but the difference with Tremonti is that he works very hard to improve himself, he's never satisfied with the way he plays, so his soloing can only get better. Quit assuming I haven't listened to Alter Bridge. Blackbird is their best song, but it still sounds re-hashed and a failed attempt to incorporate middle eastern sounds. Metalingus is a generic soft-metal song. In loving memory is a mix between a ripoff of over the hills and far away and a creed song. Hell, Alter bridge is Creed without Scott Stapp's ego blocking out one of tremonti's guitar channels. They even got a singer who sounds like he's doing a scott stapp impression.

Look, if you aren't going to incorporate your playing ability into your songs(I'm still not saying he's an exemplary guitarist), then atleast have the decency to create a range of unique sounds. The beatles post rubber soul are a prime example. While they weren't amazing musicians, they at least had the decency to not bore the hell out of listeners with the same song over and over. The white album itself overshadows Tremonti's entire catalogue in its use of various styles.

And the fact that you think most guitarists are limited to power chords makes me think you don't listened to much outside of the radio. Listen to animals as leaders, BTBAM or Iwrestledabearonce, some bands with talent oozing out of their pores who aren't limited by commercial viability.

Creed has 1 album that went 11X platnum, name one album that BTBAM has that sold nearly as high, and this isn't counting the other albums that Creed has that went multiplatnum. Naw I've been playing for ten years, and I grew up listening to artists like nusrat fateh ali kahn and zakir hussein, I can easily hear when someone is trying to make a lame ass attempt to try and incorporate a middle eastern influence into their sound. Even their vocalist is trying to do that same thing Robert Plant did on Zepp's song friends using half step drops in his voice.
If album sales dictated superiority, then by golly good charolette, green day, katy perry, Puff Daddy and a sh.it load of other crap artists would be better. Its no mystery that the masses like garbage. BTBAM doesn't have to focus on being commercially viable, therefore they have more time to focus on being better musicians and writing better songs(that don't sound like Pearl Jam). But you're right, the world doesn't revolve around UG, we're definitely the only ones who hate Creed. Oh wait no, Rolling Stone, SPIN, Philly weekly and allmusic all hate creed, as well as billions of people world wide who don't listen to them. Being that I don't want to have to re-write why its not just technical proficiency that they lack, go elsewhere and see the many reviews that state why they're re-hashed garbage. Maybe you should stop living on the Creed's fansite and listen to what people have to say instead of blindly defending a band.

And I don't know about you, but I value the aggregate opinion of Musicians very highly as we often have more informed opinions, just like a film maker probably knows a bit more about films than the rest. On UG its more of an art cuz most people like to get creative with their bashing. I just thought I'd indulge creeds fans just this once by delineating how creed sucks. But now that I've gotten it out of my system...

I can tell that you aren't very good or know how to play very well since you're claiming that band A is superior to band B based on technical proficiency. There are no facts on how any band is better than the other. You're following majority rules in favor of opinion with your last paragraph. I can beat you on that if you're playing that game. Creed has 1 album that went 11X platnum, name one album that BTBAM has that sold nearly as high, and this isn't counting the other albums that Creed has that went multiplatnum. Since you're using 1 website's opinion as a stance on how a band sucks, I'm using opinions from the entire country based on sales. By your logic the entire country thinks Creed is great and BTBAM sucks ass. If you don't think there's bandwagons on UG then you're clearly delusional on life.

So by saying you've been playing guitar for 11 years actually means you're 11 years old. Gotcha. You know every time you talk it shows you know less and less about music. So you're saying that great music has to be obscure and the band is garbage if everyone buys their albums. Please explain how if I record a song independently and only sell 1500 copies makes it superior to if I record the same song on a major label and sell 1 million copies. Please explain how the status of my songs being good changes from indie to mainstream.

Somebody earlier said that tremonti was quoted as saying that he had to dumb down his playing abilities to be in Creed. That in and of itself should give you the answer. A band on a major label has to create a sound that is marketable to a large audience. It was already proven that pearl jam sounding bands and power ballads were a winning formula, so instead of maybe working hard at creating a unique sound like Muse or RHCP, they took the low road and did what a bunch of other successful bands had already done.

The point I was making is that artists on independant labels don't have to worry about their marketability knowing that their music won't reach a large audience. That in turn gives them more creative freedom as their label isn't forcing them to have a more marketable sound. There's still plenty of ridiculously bad independant artists though, but thats bound to happen considering there are thousands of bands on indie labels.

Now please, stop arguing about that of which you know nothing about.

I can't show the rolling stone review because its no longer online but I have the issue right here and it's still cited as a source on wiki. There are plenty more negative reviews on them, do you want me to find them for you?

You could try and use the same criteria for judging Muse or BTBAM but you'd fail miserably seeing as how both have a unique sound with superior musicianship. Creed has an overused sound with very simplistic musicianship. And that has essentially been my argument. I didn't do anything difficult here, Creed is actually a pretty easy target.
