I agree with you on this. However, after listening to her playing and reading that interview, all I can conclude is that she's a pretentious bitch, and she would be like that whether she was a girl or a guy. Her playing is nothing new and she thinks far too highly of herself (what's with all those claims about being "futuristic" and "real"?)

to be honest i dont think thats just females, thats anyone who dares to post a video of them playing on youtube, everyones a ****in critic. I have to admit i am a bit prejudiced against female guitarists at times, i dont know why, i think the male race just sucks...

Technically, I've been playing for fifteen years and can't touch her. She's ridiculously accomplished not just for someone her age (she's twenty for Christ's sakes, people) but held up against any guitar player working in her field right now.

As far as the Cee Lo performance at Coachella.... I've seen the video myself, and it's a train wreck! But whether you want to blame it on the organizers hurrying them on then cutting the set, Cee-Lo's attitude, or the bass player being a half step out of tune on the lowest string for the whole thing (and, really, to the people commenting that Arielle was the one who ruined the show - if you can't differentiate between a bass and a guitar then it's probably best to keep your technical criticisms to yourself on a guitar forum!) from what I can see she acquitted herself fine...not the best work I've seen from her but solid nonetheless.

Anyway, regardless of what I think with my experience, Brian May flew her out to London to work with him and to have her perform in "We Will Rock You". I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that he probably knows a good player when he sees one better than the people posting negatively about her here do.

Whether she has worked with Brian May doesn't really change the fact that she looked like a space child at Coachella. Her playing was embarrassing, both during the songs with Cee Lo and afterwards when the band did a mini-rendition of "Don't Stop Believing".

She also seems terribly pretentious. I'm not getting a good vibe from this girl.

She must have paid UG a lot of money for this publicity but unfortunately she doesn't have the skills to back it up. By the time I was 20 I (and most other guitarists I guess) could play full albums like ...And Justice, going by her YouTube clip this girl would struggle with Enter Sandman. These female electric guitarists... they all seem to come out of nowhere, and 99% of the time come off as a commercial gimmick, with nothing new to add to instrumental guitar. The reason they're so easy to dismiss is simple: How many guitar giants were/are female? How many female guitarists have had long-lasting, successful careers? How many have made music that is known to have influenced other artists? I personally can't think of any. Instrumental Rock is like car racing: it's the realm of men, and it's hard as hell to take seriously women who try to take part in it.

From that video, it seems that she has an adequate grasp of how to apply theory to make intelligent melodic arrangements for pop songs. However, once you move past that - her playing lacks confidence; the attack even on the downstrokes is rather weak, and it makes most of her playing come across as awkward and lacking conviction. Very sloppy and uninspired comparing to what she makes herself out to be.

On paper, what she promises, looks kind of good - ignoring the pretentious introduction of "I'm real, future, new" bullshit. Inspiration by a very talented, soulful guitarist, knowledge of theory and a good portion of dedication, as well as willingness to experiment and bring all those things together in composition. But here is where the sum of the parts really doesn't add up to each individual component. Her music is bland, the playing, while promising, certainly isn't anywhere near she thinks it to be. Props for building her own guitar though - maybe future career choice instead.

My problem with girl guitarists or girl "rock" bands in general, is that a lot of them are too obsessed with how they're perceived, so every one of them feels the need to prove how much they rock. Usually because of that they got an overblown "rockstar attitude" image, and the music, almost invariably, is generic guitar pop. It seems like a good portion of them feel like they're being constantly discriminated against, and are always on the warpath to prove something.

That said, there are plenty of female musicians who just get on with what they're doing, who couldn't care less of public opinion, yet manage to play some mean guitar. Liz Buckingham from Electric Wizard, for instance.

Oh and if one practices 15 hours a day as she claims that only gives 9 hours remaining for the rest of the day. She says she got her first guitar aged 10, well during the next say 6-8years of school lets awesome 6 out of those 9 hours are used being in school.
So that means she slept only 3 hours a night for several years?.....Bollocks!

well my friend, you might be right about some stuff.. but i have to say.. every guitar player has his\her faults. Whether he's a male or a female..some play sloppy, some lack emotion, some are lacking in confidence- but they all will eventually improve, as well as she (you can see by what she says how eager she is about her playing)i see nothing wrong with her confidence.. and i assure you- She's not the only musician out there with that attitude, AND it is even more common around male ones. so why is your problem revolves only around female artists?

women do get discriminated. in a whole lot of ways and shapes and it starts in childhood, and it is present in every aspect of their life since then. please if you're interested in it.. read deep into what they're saying, or maybe some feminist articles. cheers

no, they dont get publicity because they dont go out there. may i draw your attention to Angela Gossow, female and very successfull indeed. Like I keep saying these kids today are clueless. Guitar popularity has faded the last 2 decades and along with it the definition of true guitar skill. Kids think that technique and speed are a waste of time and that if they mearly learn to bend a string ..they are the sh!t. They are not interested in learning to play song correctly, but more than satisfied to learn a quick 2 note power chord version of their favorite. Having said this it does not suprise me in the least that this little girl thinks she has it going on....I saw the video and you can make all the excuses you want for her "having a bad performance"...give me a break...a bad performance is when you miss a note or two...this chick is an underskilled, unpractice (I dont care what she says about 15 hours a day)trainwreck who should be ashamed to call herself a guitar player. If she is practicing 15 hours a day she needs to find a way to practice 30 hours a day and get some one to teach her how to do it correctly....
