On another note, Pulp Fiction is one of my all time favorite movies. Having Kurt Cobain casted would of most certainly been interesting.

Actually without looking it up on the web: the drug itself MDMA and Ecstasy are the same! However they are cut with different substances and produce a slightly different high because of this. They are the same category of high, and very similar just a little different in some ways.

The pot and marijuana thing is just dumb. It's a complete failure of comparison.

They aren't the same thing because MDMA is a pure substance, which is usually called "Molly." Ecstasy is MDMA pressed in pill form, but in order to press pills you need other "filler" chemicals/drugs. That's where impurities come in to play and cause a different high. Plus, a lot of ecstasy pills don't even have MDMA. You're really taking a chance when you buy E pills as opposed to just buying pure MDMA.

The part of the note that Kurt actually wrote (teehee) implied that he wanted to quit the industry and drop out of the public eye. Switching from the music industry to acting in movies made by high-profile directors isn't the best way to drop out of the public eye. Kurt was a huge fan of "Reservoir Dogs" and given his dry sense of humor, it wouldn't be unexpected to thank Tarantino on "In Utero" just for making that movie.

Ecstasy is MDMA pressed in pill form, but in order to press pills you need other "filler" chemicals/drugs. That's where impurities come in to play and cause a different high. Plus, a lot of ecstasy pills don't even have MDMA. You're really taking a chance when you buy E pills as opposed to just buying pure MDMA.

I must say though for a community full of guitarists, an activity that over time sorta facilitates drug use and alternative lifestyles in that respect, not many seem to know what they're talking about with substances.

I think we've clarified this right? MDMA is a psychoactive substance and up to a certain point in the 80's the two (MDMA & Ecstasy) were synonymous. Ecstasy was just a slang term for MDMA and it's euphoric effects. Then dealers began cutting their MDMA with other substances and adulterants in order to maximize profits by increasing how many pills they could press with the same amount of pure MDMA. Now begins the distinction, after people started putting other chemicals into their ecstasy, there was demand for the pure legitimate un-cut product, So if you asked for ecstasy you may get a pill with some MDMA but also other drugs pressed into that pill. Where as if you asked for MDMA you could get the original pure chemical. This (aside from people not researching what they present to others as facts) is why there is some confusion about the issue. And that's why it's technically true that MDMA is ecstasy but not necessarily vice versa. That guy (Pagan_Poetry) was joking about the cannabis terms pot, grass, and marijuana in reference to the lack of understanding between MDMA and Ecstasy. I can't believe that went over anybody's head.

Ya know i agree wholeheartedly with many of his views but that one seems incredibly biased, as well as incredibly hypocritical coming from a guy who considers tobacco to be his favorite vegetable. Smart guy with a lot of good things to say and play, but that view seems to come from some bias IMO. Also he said he partook in some cannabis and didn't like it so he didn't pursue it, but he did speak out against prohibition.

I didn't mean for what i said to sound like that's the only way, but there is a positive correlation between substance use and musicianship or any kind of art form. Surely not everyone indulges as a result but it is there. And idk if you took it this way, but i didn't mean it would link to cocaine, heroin, or other "hard" drugs, simply that if you fall into a music clique as a teenager or something, there's a prominent chance that somewhere down the road a joint may come into play.

I suppose not all musicians are interested in the relation between psychoactive substances and the mind, and not everyone that smokes some cannabis is gonna turn around and start asking pertinent questions about their psyche and that drug/mind/body relation

MDMA is the main chemical of extasy, so yeah there are almost the same, but ecstasy is usually mixed with coke, speed, crystal meth, or other methamphetamines. Your comments are ridiculous and ignorant... and misleading. In other words bullshit. Ecstacy is the slang name for the chemical MDMA. It is correct that most ecstacy bought will probably contain impurities and will likely be mixed with other stuff - this doesn't mean ecstacy is not MDMA - it's like saying grass is marijuana plus pesticide! Buying something supposedly called MDMA does not guarantee purity or safety - it is still as likely to have been cut with other crap, it just gives buyers the false sense of some kind of quality control. Anyone thinking of doing these things (and it is a personal choice) just be aware first - if it is pure MDMA it is going to be potentially less harmful than something mixed with other drugs/chemicals - but how are you going to know? Because a drug dealer told you it is pure? That's the problem with illegal drugs... you're always taking someone else's word for what you're actually taking. If you're gonna try stuff educate yourself first, know what the potential adverse effects as well as the supposed benefits are, learn what things to do to reduce associated risks (e.g. avoid dehydration and over-hydration etc) and remember that you are still responsible for your own actions no matter what state you're in. Be safe and have fun, don't harm others or yourself and most of all make well-informed choices not ignorant ones.

Actually without looking it up on the web: the drug itself MDMA and Ecstasy are the same! However they are cut with different substances and produce a slightly different high because of this. They are the same category of high, and very similar just a little different in some ways.

The pot and marijuana thing is just dumb. It's a complete failure of comparison.

No, not really.

MDMA is mainly what's in ecstasy, but ecstasy contains many other unknowns in it, and could be any drugs in it depending on who or where you get it from, which is what makes it much more dangerous. Straight MDMA (More commonly known as Molly) is more pure and much safer than ecstasy since you know exactly what substance you're getting.
