This time though, I think it's a little more because of the readership of this site. If you look up the band she's in, they've been putting out records for years and have some really well reviewed ones. They play indie rock though and aren't a huge band, so I doubt too many people on this site would know them.

I thought it was a good interview. I wish they would give some background on what she's done before launching into the interview. Some context, like that her band has been around since '98 and what styles she plays would have been nice for someone who is obviously some superstar that's a household name.

UG is clearly doing this to get a better unisex PC vibe, which isn't wrong in itself.. but you know what would be less sexist? Not distinguishing between the female guitarists all the time. Quit asking stupid questions everyone already knows the answers to, and just interview the musicians as musicians - not as "musicians" and "female musicians".

She's right, though. I know plenty of great female guitarists, but people like to assume that chicks aren't of the same caliber or some shit. That needs to change--crazy awesome guitar skillz doesn't have to be paired up with a sausage-fest.

You know, a guitarist doesn't have a be a metal player to warrant an interview. I agree that she'd be a good candidate, but it's not like Kylesa is an amazingly huge band. I thought this was one of the best interviews of this series so far.
