What i've done was written in a week after everyone who heard it said the completed record needed one more song, so it's hardly surprising its not the strongest song on the album. M2M is really good, you can't just listen to it once and expect to love it thought.
POSTED: 05/16/2007 08:00am

The funniest thing someone could ever say right now, is that Linkin Park turned to being 'sell-outs'.

Yes, I'm sure they really wanted to break the mainstream now Becayse, come to think of it, 14 million records sold on a debut album is very underground. I haven't heard this album yet, but I doubt they'd be very good at trying to emulate the whole 'U2'-vibe.

Then again, whne meteora came out, I was 12, so my tastes have vastly diversified since then. But I'll probably give it a listen no matter how bad it is, for old time's sake.
POSTED: 05/16/2007 08:29am

Yeah he said ONE of the best, not the best, so quit bitching.
Anyway, I was dissapointed when first listening to the album, but it definitely grew on me. The majority of the songs are good, but they still should have put in some more upbeat songs. That to me is the only letdown.
POSTED: 05/16/2007 10:57am

i saw an interview shinoda, and that afro feral guitarist, and they were bragging about, how they wrote 70 different versions, to each song, but the end, result, what i've done, was shit. like, the guitars is like playing straight 8 note rythms. its safe to say that there was no rythm in the guitar line.

(prepares for the backlash, of teeny bopper nu - metal fans)

You contradicted yourself. No backlash necessary.

And, I'm really not a huge fan of Maynard. He's good, but...I don't think he's as skilled as so many others do. Same goes for Chester, really. I'm much more fond of Corey Taylor, Ed Sloan (interesting style), and Jesse Hasek.

That said! Like many others, this album has had to grow on me. And, it has done so much quicker than any other album before it (St. Anger, A Beautiful Lie, etc.). I think it's an excellent departure from previous efforts, and should act as a pretty good segue into an entirely new style for the band. Much more fluid transition than most bands put forth.
POSTED: 05/16/2007 11:39am

Hey slash6464 thanks for you opinions but that's all they are and no one cares. Maynard definitely kicks ass but Chester isn't bad. If you're going to make a comparsion then atleast have Maynard and someone from an emo band with their whiny bitch vocals.

p.s. This album definitely takes some time to grow on a listener. Instead of being totally shocked right away...after a few listens you'll start really piece everything in and you'll be even more shocked than just a good album.
POSTED: 05/16/2007 11:59am

This album is horrible. I am not a fan of Linkin Park at all, but I have been forced to listen to their other albums for the past five years, so needless to say, I know their style.

With the ealier album, they seemed to base a lot of their music on Mr. Han, and he drowned out the flaws in the music. Now that they have a lot more guitar and drums in the new songs, you can tell how .. .crappy they really are.

Obviously a bunch of you will attack me for my opinion, but a lot of you probably just like this POS album because it has 'Linkin Park' typed on it.

Go back to your neo-rap/rock or whatever it was, and stay away from rock.

It's only theft if they didn't get the rights.
As for the rest of your statement, pft. Knowing the style of the first two albums means nothing when it comes to Minutes to Midnight. While there are similarities, the differences are much more numerous. Accordingly, claiming to know their style just makes you seem... well, like you've got nothing else to fill your statement with.
But, I really can't deny you your opinion. Such a thing IS what makes us all individual, and nothing will sound great to everyone. To each their own. Perhaps try a bit of respect, in the future, though?
POSTED: 05/16/2007 02:46pm

I think alot of people were expecting another metal/hard rock album here; which is fair enough if you like that kinda thing.

But be serious guys; the album isn't bad just because you were expecting to hear Chester constantly screaming and you didnt.

I'm not a big fan of metal myself; I mean, I like Metallica and everything; but my area's always been prog/alt rock stuff; the likes of Audioslave, Pearl Jam etc.

But I've liked Linkin Park for a hell of a long time now; ever since I first saw Crawling on Kerrang. Good times

And I respect your opinions; wether you like LP or don't; but at least give the album a chance. There are some very deep songs that LP have worked hard to record. Admittedly; they may not be as good as One Step Closer/Points of Authority when you first hear them; they will grow on you very quickly.

I can see how some may feel it's lacking the punch a lot of ppl expected, but I think it's still an excellent album. I think a lot of ppl were thrown off by the release of QWERTY back on the LPU disk...
I'm still down with this album.
POSTED: 05/16/2007 03:53pm

I don't like Linkin Park but you're a complete dumbass. They're in their late 20s/early 30s so far as I know, and one of them just went through a divorce. That's not exactly a "pre-teen breakup". Y'know what's ironic? I bet you're 13.
POSTED: 05/16/2007 05:07pm

I'm guessing you haven't but LP isn't one of my favorite bands, but they sound really good live, but anyway back to the main reason of the comment, I bought this CD cause I looked into what they said was to come out of it. I read that they wanted a different sound(which they did) but i was expecting more heavy out it. This cd is much too soft for my likeing.
POSTED: 05/16/2007 05:10pm

I am a Hardcore Linkin Park fan, they have been my absolute favorite band since Hybrid Thoery had just come out. I remember sitting in study hall playing Crawling and In The End a zillion times in my head.

And I respect all that Linkin Park was and still is, I haven't been able to gather the money to buy M2M, but the second I get a hold of some, I am going out to buy it, NOT BECAUSE IT HAS LINKIN PARK TYPED ON IT, but because I respect everything every one of those guys have put into this album. I am an aspiring musician myself, and sometimes, we just put our feeling into songs. And thats exactly what Linkin Park did. I'm positive that alot of these songs came from personal experience from the guys. And I LOVE how the lyrics reflect that.

I just think it's a shame that people focus soley on what they "think" they know. as to where if you actually stop flaming them for sucking so bad, you might listen to a line of lyrics or two and realize that these guys are pouring their hearts out.

But hey, what do I know, I'm only seventeen...
POSTED: 05/16/2007 05:58pm

OK, so I picked this up... so far I'm actually liking this album. It's a departure, no question... I can see how some may feel it's lacking the punch a lot of ppl expected, but I think it's still an excellent album. I think a lot of ppl were thrown off by the release of QWERTY back on the LPU disk...

I'm still down with this album.

agreed. I loved QWERTY. I was like "if this is their new direction, a more raw/punk/hard rock vibe, I'm DOWN." meh. didn't happen. oh well. no point in discussing this anymore. people get all offended and personal if you don't like it.
POSTED: 05/16/2007 08:53pm

I've been an Linkin Park for a long, long time now. i've listened to all of there albums. Im seriously saying all I listened to Hybrid Theory's Ep version. Not the one released in 2000 but the one released way back. The one with "And one", and "Step Up". So there was Hybrid Theory (2000), Reanimation, and meteora. Linkin Park has been a band I've been listening to for so long. I was a bit shocked with minutes to midnight, but as people grow older, people mature. I bet the LPU cd did confuse pople with "Qwerty", but Minutes to midnight was actually a really good album. You just need to get rid of all the shock. but its really good

Since some just jump to conclusion its disappointing that people dont see how hard it was for them to step out of there comfort zones. Linkin Park always unlike some of you.....

Iceman8204 wrote:

Well dajake101,
I'm not going to argue w/ you, I suppose you are entitled to your own oppinion, but kids like me, we stick to our guns, especially when the rest of the world thinks otherwise.

Linkin Park would be my favorite band even if they did disco, so long as they had as much meaning and heart in their lyrics. They aren't just singing songs, they are telling a story, just listen, and truly try to comprehend the message.

I'm not trying to push my oppinion on ya'll, but Linkin Park dosen't deserve to be flamed for trying to explore and experiment with new styles. I just can't get over the fact that some people are so stuck on the fact that they lost al of their "Heaviness" and what-not, and won't even take a second to listen to the words that these guys have brought to us in the past. I just think it's kind of disrespectfull to Chester, Mike, Phoenix, Joe, Brad, and everybody involved. I don't know guys, like I said, I'm only seventeen, and my say-so probably dosen't hold alot of meaning, but I'm just putting those thoughts out there, it's they way I feel, and I think Linkin Park would appriciate it...
POSTED: 05/16/2007 10:58pm

Well, I agree, it is a very different linkin park. But when i had heard new cd, i immediately went out and bought the dvd set. And at first, when i listened to the songs, i was a bit disappointed, but after listening to it a few more times, and watching the DVD and seeing where they were coming from, I really understand why they did this, and applaud them for it. All-in-all, i think it is a very good CD. Yes they changed their sound, but not to sell more records, honestly, they were afraid of no sounding like linkin park, but were advised to make music they liked, and not worry about the sound!!! As i was saying, i love this CD, from the hard rock in no more sorrow, to the more pop songs like leave out all the rest, to the rap song hands held high. All of these songs have some pretty interesting messages in them, as long as you are open minded and truly listen to the music! TWO THUMBS UP!
POSTED: 05/17/2007 03:23am

This album pwnz. Honestly, I think it's better than Meteora because it's a progression in their sound, more 'rock' than 'rock-rap'. Sure, the solos aren't all dragonforce, but it's better than a nonexistant guitar hidden behind turntables and tripled vocals with NO bass whatsoever.

It's not "10,000 days", "Light Grenades" or "Black Holes and Revelations", but it still kills crap like fall out boy, hinder, nickelback, good charlotte, and the sold-out versions of lostprophets and AFI.
POSTED: 05/17/2007 07:43am

If this is just to sell records in the ever (and annoying) growing emo market, then forget it. If they didn't want to be nu-metal and scream over that, then they shouldn't have started out like that at all because thats the lp we like and we're used to. i was a HUGE LP fan especially after meteora, but their new album SUCKS.. i am VERY dissapointed.. 5 years without an album and then they finally come out with one and it sucks, and they turned all emo which is also very dissapointing. they should go back to their old style of music, with mike shinoda rapping, and chester bennington singing in the same song that actually has a beat, they should re-listen to their old classics like lying from you ( one of my favorite songs of all time )and other great songs like that, not this new crap.

I've listened to the album 3 times and while it does grow on you it is just way too slow. It feels like Linkin Park just doesn't care about the metal fans that loved their music well before In the End made them huge. They're more worried about the casual music fan that only listens for the radio hits getting played on every station. The guitar is weak too. It took them four years to come up with these riffs. comeon. The guitar work from Meteora and Hybrid Theory, although very simple aswell, far surpasses the guitar work from M2M. Nu-metal when done well is still great ex. 3Days Grace(don't say they aren't cuz they are), Decyfer Down(Christian nu-metal, awesome), Disturebed etc. After listening to an album like Saosin self titled for awhile now, and than listening to this it is actually pretty damn embarassing for Linkin Park. I do think they'll smarten up for the next one though, atleast I hope.
POSTED: 05/17/2007 02:51pm

Wake - Yeah werid little intro like incubus
Given Up - Great way to start a album, nice hard rock song. But the scream is like.....yeah right do that live without a computer HA.
Leave Out All The Test - Wait..... I kinda wanna get the blood flowing not go to a 8th grade dance.
Bleed It Out - There it is! Bad ass guitar riff, lyric blow your mind. One of the best songs by far.
Shadow of The Day - I keep thinking im gonna hear Bono bust in. But i do seem to enjoy this song. Shows that Chester can sing, and a solo (simple, but goes good)
What E've Done - Verses are kinda lame but Chorus is ok
Hands Held High - I can't help not to laugh out every time i hear AAAAAMMMMMEEEEENNNNN!!!!!

No More Sorrow - One of my favorites. The rythim with the Wammay make a great combo. It makes me wanna go to a major oil company CEO and just take everything he/she owns and see how they would survive.
Valentine's Day - Lame, i'm sick of these ballads
In Between - Some rappers can be alright singers. The duet is ok, not a chris cornell/Eddie Vedder but they did a good job.
In Pieces - Nothing special to hear here. I'm about to fall asleep.
The Little Things Give You Away - It really reminds me of a Pearl Jam song with their own style. This is where they really breakaway from what they've done.

I don't really know if it is a step forward or backwards. Out of ten i would give it a 8.2. The are some well develpoed songs that i really like. It is just the amount of ballads for a 12 track album. I give them ups for trying somthing new and not giving us recycled cd's over and over. Thats all i have to say about that

I love how when a band tries something new, everyone and their brother says they're selling out. 1) Music is about playing what you feel. 2) I think it's good they changed it up...as someone said before, who wants to listen to the same album with a different name? This album is Linkin Park going back to what they used to do, putting their heads on the chopping block while attempting to create a unique sound. I prefer Linkin Park's older stuff as well, but Minutes to Midnight holds its own (this coming from a person who hates listening to slower songs).
POSTED: 05/19/2007 08:04am

People bashing the album i dont think is too bad, but reading the comments and ppl saying Linkin Park have turned emo... lmao thats just bullshit.
As for the album, i think its good. I can see why people are dissapointed, with the lack of hard hitting songs like in their old albums, but i dont really mind the ballads, and the lyrics are pretty good too. As for the guitarring, its not exactly metallica but i think it does the job its ment to do in Linkin Park that is keep up the beat. Chesters voice really does the album for me though, whether he sings heavy songs or softer songs hes simply amazing. I think for their next album though they need to bring in more heavier catchy songs with their dj and maybe just do a couple of ballads nearer the end to show they can do it, rather then making a whole album of them.
POSTED: 05/21/2007 02:49am

Everyone who hates it hates it for the wrong reason.
When a band gets less heavy it doesn't get necessarily worse. I heard a kid at my school saying that he thought it sucked because he's used to them screaming. First of all Linkin Park is just hard rock to begin with and they don't really 'scream.' Second of all I know this kid likes most popular music and that he wouldn't mind singing from any other band.

Anyways, I think they are lyrically sub-par, vocally average, and melodically good. But that doesn't even add up to an album I would consider buying.
POSTED: 05/21/2007 05:38pm

i was looking forward to this album for a long ass time, and when i heard the first single i was dissappointed at first cuz it just didnt sound like them. then i listened to it again and it started to grow on me. but this album and this band has gone soft in my opinion, even though they meant to do that. it just doesn't sound like linkin park anymore and it buggs me. i miss the intenstiy they brought when they wrote the tracks for hybrid theory, but i guess every band changes at some point. although some songs they had were pretty heavy and i liked them. im not saying im only into heavy music but what first drew me to this band was the heavy soudn they put out.
POSTED: 05/21/2007 10:35pm

they stepped away from what everyone knew linkin park was. they literally reinvented the band. I LOVED them before this album but after I heard the whole album I completely understood the depth of the band was more than hate and agression they have an emotional side that they show from beginning to end in this album. I believe it's their best album to date. Dissappointed HELL NO if anything I see it as a point they grew up and showed a mature side. I like the sound. It's like they stepped away from who they were to show who they are. Cant wait for the next album they just keep getting better. As far as Mike only rapping on 2 songs I see it as he broke off to do Fort Minor and now he's stepping back some to do some of the writing and music to give the band a more agressive sound hello they were stepping away from what everyone knew linkin park was to show who linkin park is. of course you'd have to get the version with the DVD to understand that quote. AWESOME ALBUM compaired to the other umm 5 albums a 10 on my list
POSTED: 05/28/2007 11:48pm

Someone said somewhere Mike Shinoda doesn't provide a lot of vocals on the new album. He does a lot of backup singing and isn't it him singing all of 'In Between'(track 10)? Hands held high is great, I heard they had a political themed track and cringed a little but mike pulls it off really well. Quite pleased Brad Delson is sowing off a little more but I was never bothered before, solos and stuff like that was never what Linkin Park were about.
i don't know bout you guys... but i just think, if you call yourselves a 'huge fan' of the band, no matter how they revolutionize their music, you'd appreciate it. So to those who keep on saying "i used to" stuffs, you never really liked nor appreciated LP's music. So CUT D CRAP! Only true BELIEVERS of LP see and appreciate the beauty in their every song. And one more thing, CHESTER really is ONE OF THE GREATEST VOCALISTS ever known in their genre. It's not always just about the rhythm and all; it's also about how the vocalist sings the song. And it's just not fair to bluntly say that Chester's not a good one. In fact, it's his voice that really adds something to their songs. His voice is like, really expressing deep stuffs...(emotions & all).... that's all... i just can't stand all these guys sayin' all those crap...

this was a great album. i know most people are going to be turned off by it because it has less rap, more rock, but u have to listen to it without thinking it is linkin park. As a pure record, this is one of the greatest i have ever heard. the problem most people are having is that they are putting the cd in and going, okay time to listen to linkin park. Don't do that with this cd, put it in, and just listen. You will be MUCH happier with the album that way. It's the reason it grows on you, because you have to get over the fact that its not the old styles of linkin park. Every song on this album has its own unique reason to love it, just listen.
POSTED: 07/24/2007 09:52pm

This record is exceptionally well produced, i think that the lyrics represent how far Lp has actually matured. The lyrics are thought provoking and tackle some of todays tough issues. The sound is great, the album has a great mix of rock and rap that give it flow. Just because its not constantly loud dosesn't make it crap it gives u a chance to listen to the actual lyrics and some of the instruments. I dont think this album can be considered mainstream, Lp still keeps there distinctiveness through this record. I think this is their best album it ROCKS!!
POSTED: 09/05/2007 06:18pm

I've been a fan of Linkin Park for ageeees. Hybrid Theory was the first rock/metal/whatever album I ever heard and it got me into all that kind of music. I loved Meteroa as well, so I was really excited when I first brought M2M.
And to be honest, I was really dissapointed when I heard it. Given Up was amazing, but it gave me a false hope that the rest of the songs would be as heavy. The rest of the album just seemed really boring. After leaving it aside for ages, I listened to it again and it really started to grow on me. Chester really gets to show off his voice, although I miss the whole rap and singing mix. I didn't like Hands Held High; it was boring and made me laugh. I'm not too fond of the last song either. But the rest of the songs really grew on me, (even though Valentines Day is a little annoying after a while.)
I like this album, but I don't like it as a Linkin Park album (if that makes sense?) I want their next one to be heavier...like their previous ones.

When I first bought this album, I really thought it sucked. It was nowhere near any of the stuff they used to do. But, I'd spent money on it, so I decided to give it a chance. After I'd listened to it again and again, I realised that the music, although different, sounded really good. Chester had a go at singing softer, and nailed it. In some parts, he does sound a bit whiny, but not overall. I love this album, it awesome, and in no way worse than any of their other albums. Mr Hahn is in there, you just have to listen closely. But for all the people who think Mr Hahn has been left out, remember that he does direct most of their videos, so he plays a big part. Brad has really found himself with this album with his guitar solo's, which are awesome. Mike sounds really good on this album and proves that he can not only rap, but sing as well. Phoenix plays a bigger part in this album as well, with some songs having only the bass in it. Rob sounds really good on drums, I love the bridge on 'The Little Things Give You Away'.

But at the end of the day, a bands existence is not only for their fans, but themselves as well. In the lyrics book that came with the album, they explained that they wanted to move away from the rock/rap sound.

Personally, I love this album, it's one of the best I've heard. I love the LP boys as well, so as long as they are happy with the album, I'm happy.

p.s. sorry for this being so long!
POSTED: 09/17/2007 09:48pm

As to the album, I find it laughable that so many people were talking shit about Meteora, saying, "This is like Hybrid Theory part 2," and then MTM comes out and everyone is disappointed that they changed their sound. You asked for it, you got it.

I hated Meteora with a passion, so I'm really happy they tried something different. I like this album a lot. A big collection of varied songs.

Oh, and for those of you who think that Mike's track sucked (In Between, and all you LP fans, don't deny it, the track is pretty dull) check out the b-side 'No Roads Left.' Should have been on the album, and definitely infinitely more amazing.
POSTED: 10/24/2007 09:22am

End of essay. lol

Metal? I like LP, but I would hardly classify them, at any point in their career, as metal. Not even close.
POSTED: 06/09/2008 11:17am

First of all I am a big fan of old Linkin Park. And second of all with me being a fan old LP that means that it's likely that I won't be for all this "slow-down, radio-friendly, let's turn emo crap" that they're pullin out of their asses with FM2M. Now I have not bought this album nor have I listened to it, with the exception of the few songs on the radio that are played over and over again like a broken record. But I can say, with absolute certainty, that I hate this album and I hate what Linkin Park have become.

"Bleed it Out" wtf is that, like an emo battle cry?
Has anyone seen the video to that? It looks like their tryin to suck dick man.
What happened to the heavy metal guitars, the awesome rap lyrics, the screaming that made LP famous and awesome? (it must have been bled out of them when they started cutting their wrist) but this is crap. Its a disgrace to the legacy (or lack there of) of Linkin Park.
wow, your a douchebag... you gotta look at the thing entirely and possibly why they wrote their songs like they did. look at whats happening in the world today. we had natural disasters, we're going into a huge economic decline, gas is over $4 a gallon, lots of people are losing their jobs and their are so many foreclosures on houses putting people on the streets. Linkin Park did this album for them, dedicating it to whats been happening in the world today, so people, there's a bigger reason behind this album then just the music they've made.
POSTED: 07/30/2008 10:57am

This is not Linkin Park. It's not even influenced by something else, they've changed completely, they just turned themselves into pop-rock to make more money. They should have just re-named the band instead of disgracing the old name. Linkin Park used to be a name I was proud to see on my ipod, a band I could see a unique sound in.
I never give in to the crowds, I never follow unless I'm happy about doing so. These guys gave into the urge for money and went on the golden road to pop. They have become sheep of the music EVERYONE listens to. You don't believe me?? Look at how many reviews this album got, compare it to the first album and then tell me they haven't gone pop.
Rest in angst, nu-metal.
That is all
True, but they should still create music at least similar to what they used to sound like. They've become completely mainstream crap. I really tried to like it, but I just couldn't stand it. There's like no rapping or samples, which is what made them interesting in the first place. Sellouts.
POSTED: 10/29/2008 04:05pm
