but yeah i reckon this album is really good, at first i was very dissaointed but i gave it another chance and it actually really grows on u! Hands Held High is a good song.

Yes, I'm sure they really wanted to break the mainstream now Becayse, come to think of it, 14 million records sold on a debut album is very underground. I haven't heard this album yet, but I doubt they'd be very good at trying to emulate the whole 'U2'-vibe.

Then again, whne meteora came out, I was 12, so my tastes have vastly diversified since then. But I'll probably give it a listen no matter how bad it is, for old time's sake.

Actually, i'll have to concur also. But tool, APC, is different music than linkin park so it's kinda unfair to compare the two

Yeah he said ONE of the best, not the best, so quit bitching.
Anyway, I was dissapointed when first listening to the album, but it definitely grew on me. The majority of the songs are good, but they still should have put in some more upbeat songs. That to me is the only letdown.

And, I'm really not a huge fan of Maynard. He's good, but...I don't think he's as skilled as so many others do. Same goes for Chester, really. I'm much more fond of Corey Taylor, Ed Sloan (interesting style), and Jesse Hasek.

That said! Like many others, this album has had to grow on me. And, it has done so much quicker than any other album before it (St. Anger, A Beautiful Lie, etc.). I think it's an excellent departure from previous efforts, and should act as a pretty good segue into an entirely new style for the band. Much more fluid transition than most bands put forth.

p.s. This album definitely takes some time to grow on a listener. Instead of being totally shocked right away...after a few listens you'll start really piece everything in and you'll be even more shocked than just a good album.

With the ealier album, they seemed to base a lot of their music on Mr. Han, and he drowned out the flaws in the music. Now that they have a lot more guitar and drums in the new songs, you can tell how .. .crappy they really are.

Obviously a bunch of you will attack me for my opinion, but a lot of you probably just like this POS album because it has 'Linkin Park' typed on it.

Go back to your neo-rap/rock or whatever it was, and stay away from rock.

(Also, a lot of their riffs were stolen)

As for the rest of your statement, pft. Knowing the style of the first two albums means nothing when it comes to Minutes to Midnight. While there are similarities, the differences are much more numerous. Accordingly, claiming to know their style just makes you seem... well, like you've got nothing else to fill your statement with.
But, I really can't deny you your opinion. Such a thing IS what makes us all individual, and nothing will sound great to everyone. To each their own. Perhaps try a bit of respect, in the future, though?

But be serious guys; the album isn't bad just because you were expecting to hear Chester constantly screaming and you didnt.

I'm not a big fan of metal myself; I mean, I like Metallica and everything; but my area's always been prog/alt rock stuff; the likes of Audioslave, Pearl Jam etc.

But I've liked Linkin Park for a hell of a long time now; ever since I first saw Crawling on Kerrang. Good times

And I respect your opinions; wether you like LP or don't; but at least give the album a chance. There are some very deep songs that LP have worked hard to record. Admittedly; they may not be as good as One Step Closer/Points of Authority when you first hear them; they will grow on you very quickly.

And I respect all that Linkin Park was and still is, I haven't been able to gather the money to buy M2M, but the second I get a hold of some, I am going out to buy it, NOT BECAUSE IT HAS LINKIN PARK TYPED ON IT, but because I respect everything every one of those guys have put into this album. I am an aspiring musician myself, and sometimes, we just put our feeling into songs. And thats exactly what Linkin Park did. I'm positive that alot of these songs came from personal experience from the guys. And I LOVE how the lyrics reflect that.

I just think it's a shame that people focus soley on what they "think" they know. as to where if you actually stop flaming them for sucking so bad, you might listen to a line of lyrics or two and realize that these guys are pouring their hearts out.

But hey, what do I know, I'm only seventeen...

We have all bought albums where we listened to it once , said it was shit , then picked it up a year later , and loved the album. Music is crazy like that.

I don't know guys, like I said, I'm only seventeen, and my say-so probably dosen't hold alot of meaning, but I'm just putting those thoughts out there, it's they way I feel, and I think Linkin Park would appriciate it...

the new direction in their music is a yet another great move for the band... and i just bought the CD and it is probably one of the best albums that ive ever paid for... when i heard What I've Done, i knew that this was an album well worth paying for!!!
so if you havent got yours yet, i say "Don't waste your time listening to a bunch of panzies whinning about their personal issues and downing this band... just listen to it and tell me that you can't relate to the words on the album!!!"
Iceman8204 your right, it doesn't matter what genre that they go to next, they are still going to put their best into it and that is what seperates them from most other bands... they do tell a story, and not just sing... like all those pre-teen punk bands that all sound the same..

chester; i can accept he now takes sole responsibility over vox, but at times his voice cuts to a metallica, thrash type voice...for instance in pieces...it's all very variant from what we're use to....which is something like what i've done. I think nobody can really review this album until september....it's going to take a while to really sink in

This album pwnz. Honestly, I think it's better than Meteora because it's a progression in their sound, more 'rock' than 'rock-rap'. Sure, the solos aren't all dragonforce, but it's better than a nonexistant guitar hidden behind turntables and tripled vocals with NO bass whatsoever.

It's not "10,000 days", "Light Grenades" or "Black Holes and Revelations", but it still kills crap like fall out boy, hinder, nickelback, good charlotte, and the sold-out versions of lostprophets and AFI.

Leave Out All The Test - Wait..... I kinda wanna get the blood flowing not go to a 8th grade dance.
Bleed It Out - There it is! Bad ass guitar riff, lyric blow your mind. One of the best songs by far.
Shadow of The Day - I keep thinking im gonna hear Bono bust in. But i do seem to enjoy this song. Shows that Chester can sing, and a solo (simple, but goes good)
What E've Done - Verses are kinda lame but Chorus is ok
Hands Held High - I can't help not to laugh out every time i hear AAAAAMMMMMEEEEENNNNN!!!!!

No More Sorrow - One of my favorites. The rythim with the Wammay make a great combo. It makes me wanna go to a major oil company CEO and just take everything he/she owns and see how they would survive.
Valentine's Day - Lame, i'm sick of these ballads
In Between - Some rappers can be alright singers. The duet is ok, not a chris cornell/Eddie Vedder but they did a good job.
In Pieces - Nothing special to hear here. I'm about to fall asleep.
The Little Things Give You Away - It really reminds me of a Pearl Jam song with their own style. This is where they really breakaway from what they've done.

I don't really know if it is a step forward or backwards. Out of ten i would give it a 8.2. The are some well develpoed songs that i really like. It is just the amount of ballads for a 12 track album. I give them ups for trying somthing new and not giving us recycled cd's over and over. Thats all i have to say about that

I can see why people are dissapointed, with the lack of hard hitting songs like in their old albums, but i dont really mind the ballads, and the lyrics are pretty good too. As for the guitarring, its not exactly metallica but i think it does the job its ment to do in Linkin Park that is keep up the beat. Chesters voice really does the album for me though, whether he sings heavy songs or softer songs hes simply amazing. I think for their next album though they need to bring in more heavier catchy songs with their dj and maybe just do a couple of ballads nearer the end to show they can do it, rather then making a whole album of them.

i saw that as well, i couldn't believe he actually held that really long note in the middle of given up.

Still I didn't think that much to the album, yeah it's a pretty unique and organic album in places but not really my thing, much prefer the older linkin park

I heard a kid at my school saying that he thought it sucked because he's used to them screaming. First of all Linkin Park is just hard rock to begin with and they don't really 'scream.' Second of all I know this kid likes most popular music and that he wouldn't mind singing from any other band.

Anyways, I think they are lyrically sub-par, vocally average, and melodically good. But that doesn't even add up to an album I would consider buying.

the lyrics r deep but alittle too crappy emotional unlike past songs with anger pain and sadness thes new lyrics r like he is crying almost ateast he had balls before but these guys r awsome but they need there edge back.

But at the end of the day, a bands existence is not only for their fans, but themselves as well. In the lyrics book that came with the album, they explained that they wanted to move away from the rock/rap sound.

Personally, I love this album, it's one of the best I've heard. I love the LP boys as well, so as long as they are happy with the album, I'm happy.

As to the album, I find it laughable that so many people were talking shit about Meteora, saying, "This is like Hybrid Theory part 2," and then MTM comes out and everyone is disappointed that they changed their sound. You asked for it, you got it.

I hated Meteora with a passion, so I'm really happy they tried something different. I like this album a lot. A big collection of varied songs.

Oh, and for those of you who think that Mike's track sucked (In Between, and all you LP fans, don't deny it, the track is pretty dull) check out the b-side 'No Roads Left.' Should have been on the album, and definitely infinitely more amazing.

i knew it was going to be different once i listened to it and at first, i thought the album was o.k. but i listened to it more and it started to grow on me.

even though linkin park doesn't do anything too fancy with their music (guitar solos or anything like that) they are still amazing musicians and know how to make good music

Yeah, I saw Linkin Park last year, and one of the first songs they played was Given Up. Chester's scream was amazing, he completed it and went straight back into the chorus.

wow, your a douchebag... you gotta look at the thing entirely and possibly why they wrote their songs like they did. look at whats happening in the world today. we had natural disasters, we're going into a huge economic decline, gas is over $4 a gallon, lots of people are losing their jobs and their are so many foreclosures on houses putting people on the streets. Linkin Park did this album for them, dedicating it to whats been happening in the world today, so people, there's a bigger reason behind this album then just the music they've made.

I hate when people do this. NO. Linkin Park does not and NEVER has screamed. If you dont know what screaming is look up some death metal bands. Even metalcore has screams. This does not. Its simply a vocal raspiness.
