Don't bother.
Strats have useless tremolo, and they sound horrible for anything except blues.

Besides, tremolo is annoying to tune and restring, even with a Floyd Rose III double locking.
Goes out of tune in 2 days and is the worst thing ever if you're just learning.
POSTED: 08/18/2008 04:17pm

Whatever, those guitars are only good for heavy stuff and nothing else.
I had one, it sounded crap for stuff like ACDC and Slayer, sounded allright for Slipknot etc though, but it was retarded for staying in tune and tuning.
POSTED: 08/18/2008 04:18pm

Well... just because they copied that design, it doesn't mean the factory isn't good. I bought mine a couple of days ago and believe me, it could knock off most £300+ guitars I've seen. Why the heck should I buy a crappy Epiphone (they're owned by Gibson, not built by Gibson) when there's a cheaper alternative with better quality?
POSTED: 06/09/2009 03:34pm

This guitar feels much better than the epiphone version, plus some of us can't always afford the gibson originals.
POSTED: 11/07/2009 03:46pm

This guitar is excellent. You can get a good few tones out of it and it's somewhat easy to play, good for beginners.

VS6 plays in another league than the Epis. It is not at all a "beginner's guitar", because you need some experience to get the best of it. This means THERE IS a lot to get, while in a "beginner's guitar" there is almost nothing.
Its only awkward feature are the tuning keys, which are fragile and tend to buzz while playing, messing with guitar's harmonics.
Its only real competitor is Gibson's SG, and believe me the Vintage axe has its own virtues. For instance, its neck is better than Gibson's: everyone who has used an SG knows that its neck is quite thin and tend to bend in solos made on the first 6-8 frets, thus messing the whole tuning. VS6 has a solid thick neck, pretty much similar to a Les Paul. The result - a neck that doesn't bend - equals a perfect tuning stability: not the case of an SG (I suspect Tommy Iommi's guitars have extra carbon fibre truss rods in their necks, in order to cope with this problem...).
Besides that, Trev Wilkinson's PAFs, made after the receipe given by Seth Lover, are potted with a better wax than Gibson's, hence then specific PAF microphony, which can be heard on any all-tube amp above 50 Watts, has vanished.
Don't ignore Vintage: it's the make of the moment. Although I don't understand very well their marketing strategy (with labels such as "Reissued", "Icon" and "Advance"), although there are some products who show up the cheap labour behind them, Vintage guitars are really good. And, what's more important, you can gig and record with them, no matter where and on which equipment. Don' forget we're talking about 250-300 euros. That's quite rare nowadays.
POSTED: 01/20/2011 05:58am

I tried an Epi G400 before getting my VS6, it cost $70 more, and it weighed about twice as much, the neck felt like it was coated in glue and the pickups were pieces of crap, I've actually never heard such a muddy guitar. XD
POSTED: 02/12/2011 12:55pm

As I've already said, the VS6 is more reffined and superior to an Epi in all respects. Its sustain is better, the stock pickups are amazing, the finish is flawless. By replacing the odd tuning pegs by some Grovers for Gibson (PMMH 51, if my memory doesn't betray me), which cost about 80 euros, you can actually get a real pro guitar for less than 400 euros. Show me the Epi who can do that! The equivalent from Gibson costs at least 1000 euros, even more.
POSTED: 03/04/2011 04:59pm

The newly added reviwew, submitted by jimmy_bones1 , is another example of how easy amateur opinions - legitimate by all means - are accepted here at the UG as reviews (which is a completely different thing).
Dear fellow: what do you mean when you say the bridge has moved when you replaced the strings? The entire bridge, or only the stopbar (which is supposed to move , since it's not attached to anything)? Stopbar's guidance screws can't be switched unless you use a screwdriver, so it's virtually impossible to change its position only by replacing the strings.
What do you mean when you say the guitar's neck isn't set at the correct angle? It's a set neck : if the angle was wrong, then you would have noticed it instantly when you purchased the guitar, because a wrong angle makes the guitar hardly playable (or unplayable in most cases). You've just said that the music shop's setup was good, everything changed when you replaced the strings. Did it occur to your mind the idea you have no idea about how to handle such an instrument? And, if you aren't experienced enough to replace the strings without damaging the setup, why do you write reviews? What's the big experience you are ready to share with us?
... Yet, the guy rewarded an 8,6 overall to the axe he pretends to have a major construction flaw (wrong neck angle) and countless average and minor ones. Remarkably indeed.
POSTED: 09/30/2011 05:25pm

I don't know if they sound as good right out of the box, but some of them at least are surely better built or built just as well as a Gibson. I've played a Paradise model once, and it was the guitar with the nicest finish and fret quality i've ever seen in a store (among Gibson's and Fender's and any others i tested)
POSTED: 02/20/2013 09:18pm

Not at all, they are professional instruments. Not all of them of course, but i've spoted one Les Paul once, that was perfectly finished and had frets better than the Gibson Standard's that were in the store. Just swap the electronics and you're good to go
POSTED: 02/20/2013 09:20pm

Fantastic guitar for the price. Doesnt feel out of place amongst the other higher end guitars i own. Great build quality and the pickups are decent especially when you select them both. Also a great guitar for black metal. you can get a really cutting rhythm sound out of it and in addition it sounds great clean. I'd recommend this to beginners and pros alike. Let go of your snobbery and enjoy this little bargain!
POSTED: 03/01/2013 02:11pm
