The very fact that Pennyroyal Tea (the person here) thinks that Heart-Shaped Box is only for "fakes" or posers is laughable to me. The reason it become quote "mainstream" is because its really just that good. I purchased the best of Nirvana black album and i fell in love with Heart-Shaped Box. Easily one of my favorites of his and I'd never even heard it on the radio! *Gasp* And the idea that only fakes like Nirvana would make Kurt Cobain roll over in his grave. You don't have to be a die hard fan to enjoy Nirvana. That was the whole point! As long as you were a teen that loved agnst-ridden and rebellious music, you were included! And you dont even have to be a rebel or a teen to appreciate Cobains music! As Cobain sang on Come as You Are, "Come doused in mud,
soaked in bleach, As I want you to be, As a trend, As a friend." Cobain didnt give a damn who you were! He just wanted you to join in the music. So to any diehard fans that think Nirvana is only for you....wake up. Thats sure ain't what Cobain wanted.
In Utero is an awesome album, better than Nevermind in all ways...it mixed what I would view as the rawness of bleached mixed in with that hint of commercialism that parts of Nevermind had...plus In Utero had amazing lyrics !
POSTED: 07/22/2007 04:30pm

in utero is perfection, put not on a silver platter, no nirvana decided lets see who the real fans are lets present half of the album to be gritty and almost seem like it wasn't produced at all, then take other songs and make them perfect to the exact note. what this album is is not that chrismas present that you always wanted wrapped in the best wrapping paper on earth, no it is practically wrapped in a newspaper. Getting back to the first statement it is perfect on a paper plate and a styrofoam cup.
POSTED: 07/26/2007 07:52pm

Am I the only one who finds it painfully ironic that Nirvana fans are bitching to other Nirvana fans about how Cobain specificially directed their music at them?
It's a textbook example of Socratic irony.

Group 1 doesn't get it and acknowledges that they don't get it but attempts to understand.
Group 2, the majority, don't get it and pretend to get it -- some even genuinely believe they get it -- while simultaneously belittling group 1.
Group 3, the smallest group of the three, get it and are fully capable of seeing through Group 2.

Cobain directly antagonized the second group, the elitists that pretended to get it and sang along to In Bloom, the same ones who claim that Smells like Teen Spirit and Heart-Shaped Box are not "true" Nirvana songs, and that those who enjoy them aren't "true" Nirvana fans. That Cobain hated being popular was based on the enormous second group that really had no understanding of what they listened to and yet pretended they did anyway. He did NOT antagonize the first group, those who did not understand and were genuine in their misunderstanding (but equally genuine in their pursuit of understanding); he did not antagonize those who listened to Smells Like Teen Spirit, he antagonized those who listened to Smells Like Teen Spirit, didn't get it, and yet pretended to anyway (and proceeded to skip showers and dress like him).

As a Nirvana fan I truly wish for this elitism and massive misinterpretation to come to an end.
POSTED: 01/19/2008 12:17pm

Do you gyus know what Nevermind and In Utero proved...

That music doesn't have to be technically brilliant to make an impact.....

Remember it was Nevermind that killed two bands named Motley Crue and Poison overnight.....

But here is my opinion..... Kurt cobain was an amazing poet.... his lyrics were haunting I adore them.... but his vocals were nothing great and people talk about him as if he was a guitar god which i feel he wasn't..... also its easy to feel pity and sympathy for him because he loved his family and friends but he also gave alot of shit to eddie vedder and axl rose which was very unneccesarry..... he accused vedder of basking in the mainstream rock glory and gave axl the finger when he asked him if they could tour together.... true i dont know where i would be without my parents i feel bad that he had to go through that and marvel at the fact that he survived it but he also had his downsides.....

Dirt, Ten and Superunknown are better albums in my opinion..... Nevermind and In Utero are really good too but nevermind was way too overrated...
POSTED: 01/05/2009 09:12am

such an amazing album. my favorite nirvana album by far, followed by Bleach, Incesticide(yes im aware its not an official studio album), Unplugged, and Nevermind. the reason Nevermind is my least favorite is cuz its too overproduced for Nirvana's sound. All the songs kinda sound the same and blend into each other. anyways, yeah this album is like cool and stuff
POSTED: 02/23/2011 12:30pm

Am I the only one here who thinks that most of these reviews are complete garbage? The ratings aren't the problem, this album definitely deserves HIGH ratings. First of all, if you're going to call yourself a Nirvana fan, at least learn the freakin lyrics before including incorrect ones in a review of such an amazing masterpiece. Second, Kurt Cobain has stated on MULTIPLE occasions that "Serve the Servants" is in no way connected to him whatsoever. He wrote the song with the intention of leaving himself out of it 100%. I couldn't even finish reading these reviews out of disappointment. I'm not saying the reviewer is a horrible person, I'm just saying they should have done their research before having the audacity to post something so disgusting.
POSTED: 08/24/2012 09:41pm
