I tried both and I would probably go with the Vox. But it does come down to your playing styles and intended use.
POSTED: 12/21/2009 01:17am

Hi there, I know Vox is not often used on Metal but how about using this amp with a Metal Muff or something like that?? Obviously for home use but playing metal songs??? I mean for metal: GnR, Metallica and beyond.
POSTED: 07/12/2010 05:46pm

I guess Moroten has captured the two most important features of this amp: 1) it's the best 10W practice amp you could get nowadays, and 2) despite being a solid state, it still emulates pretty well the tonal range of a tube amp. Only Vox can do that! Of course, you can always pay 2000 euros for a HiWatt or an Engl of the same output, if you wish, but in my opinion it would be a nonsense: why would you spend so much money on an amp which will never go on stage? The Pathfinder 10 is not quite a beginner's amp, though. It takes time and one need some experience in order to get the most of its basic controls.
POSTED: 01/18/2011 07:14am

Vox. Clean tones aren't Orange's strong point. And there's another difference: Pathfinder 10 is a simple SS amp, decently emulating an all-tube. Orange Crush is a digital modelling amp, provided with crappy digital pre-sets. Take the Vox, my friend.
POSTED: 09/28/2011 06:11am

I am the person who wrote the 'unregistered' reveiw... Now that I have had the amp a little longer, and had more experience with other amps, If your going for metal, go for a different amp, there is nothing wrong with this, but it is pretty average when it comes to overdrive, but if your looking for a clean or crunchy tone, you really cant beat it for the price. Also, don't buy single coil pickups if you want to play metal, they suck. I would be perfectly happy with my guitar if it just had a bucker... everything else, i could fix. so if you want a cheap guitar to fix up, buy one with a humbucker instead of just single coils. It's better if you have both
POSTED: 02/06/2012 06:45pm
