well its because there a marshall amp for the people who arn't mega rich. I have the mg halfstack and it rocks some serious ass. Not as much as a vintage modern or a JCM800, but it rocks ass for that kinda money. I would love the vintage modern 2466 half stack, but it costs nearlt double the MG halfstack. Thats alot of money to a 17 year old.
POSTED: 02/18/2008 10:45am

Don't be dicking on the man's gear. If he likes it that's all that matters.

And I was thinking about saving up for one of these vintage moderns but besides this review I've heard that the gain was lacking. I dunno I just need to find one somewere I guess.
POSTED: 02/18/2008 11:03am

anybody who says the gain is lacking is an idiot or the biggest gain ***** ever. I've played all three models (100W, 50W, and 50W combo) and they've got more gain than you'll ever need once you switch the dynamic range to high. crank the body and detail knobs, turn it up a bit, and it's got tons of distortion. they clean up better than anything else i've ever heard too - these amps are ridiculously sensitive to how hard you hit the strings and where the volume knob on your guitar is set.
i'd probably go for the combo myself just because i can't afford the half stack. this is probably better suited to my needs anyway, i don't really need a half stack.
POSTED: 02/18/2008 11:49am

of course an MG is going to kick the 15G's ass... it's only 15 watts worth of competition. try playing anything above 15 watts vs the 15G and see if you disagree. sure you may like your MG but everyone knows they're a piece of crap, for the money they're good, and being on a budget myself i use that kind of amp, only it's a Fender FM212R but still... there's better out there. personally i love mesas myself, but i could never afford one.
POSTED: 02/18/2008 01:32pm

The full set of valves will definitely take advantage of the active pickup on your jackson. you may find it the amount of gain and distortion achievable from the amp doesn't meet your needs, but in my opinion it'd only be a problem if you're in a goregrind band
POSTED: 06/22/2010 07:43am

I have one of these, the K66 tubes are sensitive and they will make distinct tonal ghosts when they are about done. As the review suggests on the fly channel swithing is not an option with this amp so it takes a while to figure out the volume on your guitar can really alter the sound. but i love this amp, the tone whether you use a strat or LP really jumps out of the speaker cabinet. Its a heavy ****er at 60 pounds, but it spits fire my friends or it can twang like Shania. Personally, I like it a lot. But they are expensive ($1700 Cdn)
POSTED: 07/07/2010 05:29pm

I've owned a 2266C for about 3 years now. Best amp I've ever owned (I've been playing since 1981). I play most genres of rock from about 1965 through 1985 as well as blues and some country and this amp has the tonal goodies and gain to handle it all. It has the best clean I've ever heard from a Marshall as well as the classic Marshall crunch, grind and singing sustain. I love the dynamic range built into the amp. I set the amp and run most everything else from the controls on my guitar. I own guitars with humbuckers, single coils and actives and axes that are bright sounding & dark sounding. The 2266C accommodates them all. The only pedals that I use with this amp to modify tone and/or flavor of gain are a really old Pro Co Rat and a BBE treble booster. The effects loop works great with my rack effects. Nice touch that they added that to the amp. The point is that the basic tone and versatility is there to start off with and that is what make this a stellar amp...for me anyway.
POSTED: 05/30/2011 10:33pm

I´ve owned the 2266c for 3 years now and I love it except for the big big volyme drop between the High and Low dynamic ranges. I use a compressor to "fix" it but it does not work so well. Any idées how to fix this volyme drop?
POSTED: 10/01/2012 07:29am
