I was playing it through a Peavey 5150 Half Stack, and it sounded beautiful. I changed the action a bit, and it plays like a dream. I love it.
POSTED: 12/03/2006 12:50pm

If it's not been clear enough, with the pick-up selector controls you have the "treble" position which activates the bridge and middle pick-ups, the middle position which activates all pick-ups, and the "rhythym" position which activates the neck and middle pick-ups. The beauty of the controls on this guitar is you can use the volume knobs to cut out the middle (or any other) pick-up to create any combination of pick-ups.
POSTED: 04/26/2007 10:02am

the les paul and the SG arent meant to compete. the SG is meant to be lighter and more modern while the les paul was the heavy one which had a better tone and a classic look. i think part of the idea between the SG and the les paul is that the SG is like the flashy fancy lead guitar, while the les paul is like a rythm guitar. yes i know the sg was a modded les paul originally. is there any way you can reduce the neck heaviness on these? i want to get one but i played my brothers G400 standard and it was a bitch to hold in comparison to my ibanez.
POSTED: 09/11/2007 09:11am

I own this guitar and love it to bits. For its price, definitely the best guitar you can buy. My only complaint is that the neck is not fast enough (but, considering that its an Epiphone/Gibson made product), it's pretty damned good. I played the Gibson version of this guitar and they sound exactly the same. Don't waste your money on a Gibson when if you replace the pickups and wiring in a high-end Epiphone you get exactly the same (if not a better) guitar. This guitar sounds awsome through any amp, although I play through an AC-30 and the two go together hand in hand. This guitar loves the Marshall sounds as well. I might submit a review when I can get around to it.
POSTED: 01/18/2008 04:09am

Here in Sweden the Custom G400 costs almost the double of the G400, is it worth that? Probably not, I will try this one the next time.
POSTED: 03/08/2008 03:32pm

No I've seen them in red and black as well, but the white looks ten times better in person and it has an orange toggle switch is very vintage style. Anyway I'd bet it take a shitload of money to get 3 active EMGs on that thing not to mention the ridiculous amount of re-wiring you'd have to do.
POSTED: 05/03/2008 10:21pm

I've got this guitar, I used it in the recordings on my profile if anyone wants to hear what it sounds like. I would recomend this guitar, but not for more than a years use really. The neck on mine is starting to warp, and its always felt a bit cheap and flimsy on the neck. The gold plating has turned silver on the majority of the hardware too. Good guitar, but not one to keep for life, a bad investment really. But hey the price just went up online, so mines going on ebay sooner or later!
POSTED: 12/04/2008 06:09pm

I use this as my backup guitar, with a Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty as my front runner. It's an awesome guitar specially through my line6 spider II. At first i was apprehensive of the 3 buck setup (cos i got it before my black beauty), but you can do so much with the tone and sound of the guitar it's unreal. Sounds great through a dunlop wah peddal . HOWEVER the tuning pegs are abit sh*te. Mine need tightening back up, but it has been gigged god knows how many times since i got it so it's probably overdue a service.
POSTED: 05/15/2009 03:18pm

This is the G-400 Custom... If you're a jazz-influenced metaller, Jackson's a safer bet. If you like jazz and metal seperate, then it's between the Epi and the Fender. I actually have a MIM Strat, but a SSS one. And it really won't do metal, without properly high end amplification. Jazz i'm unsure about, but most jazz guitarists i've seen use old ES-335s, and other vintage Gibbos.
Epi, definately.
POSTED: 06/27/2010 02:42pm

just got one, first real guitar after a squire strat (though i still love fenders). I've been looking for an affordable 3 humbucker guitar, and i know epiphone makes a les paul one, but i saw this and immediately spent the $500 on it. dirt is a big issue on here, but if u keep it taken care of, it looks great. the gold hardware gives it a more expensive look. even experienced players would appreciate this guitar. Very vintage sound, but easily handles any metal i can throw at it. ive yet to play this live, but the sturdiness of it makes me think it can handle anything. highly recommended.

I have 2 les pauls, ibanez art custom, 2 yamahas, and this one is just a perfect add to my collection. Not over exagerating this guitar is perfect the way it is, if u dont like the way the pickups are wired, it costs 20$ to switch it to any combo, and the 3 volume knobs enable u to turn off any pickup at any point in time, the binding on the neck keeps the neck protected and only adds a satysfying feeling to it. This guitar is one of a kind and it is a keeper. I love it.
POSTED: 12/28/2011 07:19pm
