I have one of these, it's an absolute workhorse. It takes a hell of a beating too. It's actually really good for metal/hardcore if you play with the EQ for a bit. I plan on getting a 212 cabinet for it sometime soon, then it'll be pretty much perfect.
POSTED: 05/31/2006 04:08pm

I used to have this amp, it is very loud! I had never turned the volume past 2! Great, great clean tone, great reverb. Wish the footswitch gave ya the option to turn off the reverb. I never thought of this as "metal amp" not without a EQ, BBE or a distortion/overdrive pedal. Great amp for that "Fender clean tone".
POSTED: 06/02/2006 05:02pm

js donnie is wasting that amp, using pedal distortion instead of the amazing overdriven tones the amp naturally gives, and if your reading i'm not being an arse i really mean it, use an overdrive pedal instead so it will compliment the fantastic tone from that amp. the amp wasn't designed for metal like, but distortion pedal's sound so...cold.
POSTED: 06/02/2006 05:07pm

Hey Fellow Guitar nuts..I just purchased a Hot Rod Deluxe..all I can say is WOW!! I have been playing my Antigua Strat through a Roland BC 60 with 3 10's for 10 years now, I love the tone of that amp but it started haveing shorting out issues, so I purchased the Deluxe..I am totally blown away at the clean Tone, I run my TS9 Tubescreamer with the over drive channel and get INCREDIBLE overdriven Hendrix,Ray Vaughn, Blackmore hard rock lead tone's..Running the clean channel with a compression sustain gives you a nice Gilmore and Nashville lead tones..THIS AMP ROCKS!! I used it at the SoulFest in NH..Held up wonderful and delivered great tone and awesome volume!!! GET ONE!!!!
POSTED: 08/09/2006 02:27pm

Don't know about anyone else, but with the stock tubes I always found that the volume was too sensitive in the low end and there was an audible background hum.

I recently replaced my pre-amp tubes with three Electro-Harmonix 12AX7-EH tubes, and both those problems disappeared. The amp's almost inaudible until I start playing now. I'm not suggesting these tubes are the best, they just fit my price range.
POSTED: 06/09/2007 05:04pm

i tried this amp out in a local storre, and i was really impressed by the sparkling clean tone. the distortion was ok, but you'd probably need a pedal. personally i prefer the vox ac30 to this, because it's more versatile, but if you like playing on clean mode, use distortion from pedals and want a very LOUD amplifier for gigs, then this is for you
POSTED: 08/28/2007 06:00am

I checked out the limited edition Texas Red version of this amp. On a mission to initially get a Vox AC30, I stumbled upon this amp. It destroys the Vox through and through! There's absolutely no comparision. The clean is amazing - reverb is freaking awesome - overdrive is cool. I'm a lead guitarist and I like my pedals - this amp accepts them great! I tried the regular Deluxe as well - also kills the Vox AC30. I tried the Vox AC30CC2X - supposedly the best sounding Vox to date. Take the Fender! It sounds better, weighs way less and its cheaper!
POSTED: 12/08/2007 10:16am

i just got one a few days ago and cant quit playing it. if it wasnt early in the morning and my neighbors/roommates wernt sleeping i'd be playing now. i got it for $400 from Guitar center. i went in to try the deville since i was going to get one off craigs list for the same price, but played this one, which had just been re-tubed, and couldnt walk away from it. i dont play metal at all, so the "lack of gain" i keep reading about is no worry to me. it breaks up so beautifully with the gain even at 3 or 4. you can play a nice soft clean sound with the gain on and then rip a few notes off and get that cream-your-pants sound i dreamed about. i play a MIM ash body tele, a custom HH tele, and a 96 HSS american strat through it. all sound 100% than they did on my old fm65r and pro roc 1000. (im a fender guy...)

now granted, this is my first tube amp, but ive played a handful at stores, and this one stuck with me. i literally could not walk away from it.
POSTED: 12/21/2008 10:50am

listen, I have absolutely no problem with Fender Amps. I just spent $700 YESTERDAY for a used 1965 Fender Super Reverb 4x10 Re-Issue. ok, that being said, my father & I are both vintage amp tech's...& my dad's been a vintage fender collector for years & an amp technician since he was 25 years-old. & now, I'm 25 years old...& he taught me how to do it when I was like 12 years-old until I was 16 years-old...& a couple years ago my dad got a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe in to fix...what happened to it (my dad learned) was that the output transformer went in it & my dad had to go through hell and high water while doing a triple back-flip, through a flaming hoop to get a new output transformer for the damn thing...I gotta say...you want a "Deluxe" get a Fender Deluxe Reverb, you want a Fender Hot Rod Series Amp, get a Fender Blues Junior (I Have one of those, & IT IS FANTASTIC!!!)
POSTED: 05/30/2010 10:42pm

This is, simply put, one of the best combos available. And one of the very few classic amps which didn't turn out to be outdated. Best cleans in the world by all means, and a rare vibe. If you want to get something similar from a different producer, prepare to pay 2000 euros on a HiWatt or 3000 euros on a Brunetti. Which is, in a way, just insane.
POSTED: 01/19/2012 04:38am

I have this amp ad I love it. It's one of the best all-tube combo amps on the market. Fender has the best cleans ever next to vox. Put an OD pedal in front of the drive channel and you have all of the gain you will ever need. I replaced the speaker with a celestion vintage 30 and its amazing.
POSTED: 01/24/2012 10:04pm

It will give you those Black Keys tones with the Clean channel or Drive channel at a low setting. The spring reverb is deliciously vintage sounding with a nice shimmer at high settings. It has a very swampy vibe and it LOVES FUZZ!! My EQD Hoof and Fulltone Soul-bender mk2 sound completely massive through it. The Drive channel is higher settings kinda rob the swampy mojo from the circuit, but low settings (1, 2 at the most) is like a little flour in the gravy. Love the reverb and the sheer brute volume of it. Mine was modded in the reverb section, bias and Drive channel. I don't know the detail and don't care. A great vintage swampy mess! Mine is Tweed with ox-blood grill. Lovin' what it does.
POSTED: 07/20/2012 03:48pm
