so because its got a six letter logo on it and there's no floyd rose, its an inferior guitar in your eyes?
grow up. its a great guitar, sounds freakin' huge and looks the part with a slab body and EMG's.
if you're going to be deterred because the guitar says "fender" on the head, maybe you're in the wrong game.
POSTED: 08/05/2008 04:08am

I've played one of these in a local music shop, and it played like a dream. It seemed pretty versatile for most styles of playing too. As far as the lack of tremolo goes, it didn't really bother me because I normally play an SG (which obviously doesn't have a trem). I do have a Strat but I very rarely use the trem on that anyway. If I was perfectly honest I think putting a trem on this guitar would spoil it as it would take away the 'minimalist' feel that this guitar has.
POSTED: 08/05/2008 07:48am

such a sweet guitar, I friggin hate fender guitars, I like their basses, but this is the first Fender I was really impressed with, plays great and sounds metal. What looks MeTaL? Cuz honestly goofy bodies like on a warlock are like cheap parlor tricks to me, look how scary I am because my guiatr looks like a broken spider...thingy. Whatever to each his own. And for the record I love slipknot and SS equally.
POSTED: 08/05/2008 02:03pm

Only a problem if you actually use a bar...which I don't seeing as I don't play lead. You could always add one if you wanted to, but if a bar is essential to your style then another guitar might be a better option.
POSTED: 08/05/2008 05:45pm

Not only does it do metal, but everything else I play -- and better than most of the other guitars I have owned in the past. The heavy body takes a bit of getting used to (I haven't played an LP in over 10 years), but the sustain and "chunkiness" is well-worth the added weight.
POSTED: 08/05/2008 05:48pm

alot of people are saying that tremolo bars are not for smart guitarists. I disagree. While in soloing it would be pretty stupid to use one, if you are holding a chord and want to repeatedly change the tone without losing too much volume, tremelo bars are great. My band wrote this song called "try" and thats all i do during the pre-chorus. It sounds great and is easy. And the difference between tremolos and bending is that bending brings the tone up, and tremolos bring it down.
POSTED: 08/05/2008 06:05pm

Im gettin a jackson kelly ke3 soon that has a Floyd Rose which is gunna be cool but I wont use the whammy too much because im not used to one. Either that or all of my solos will have the whammy bar used in it. I'd use my whammy for the crazy Tom Morello solos. Just to let yall know he is better than many many many guitarists because hes amazing and I dont just know RATM from guitar hero. I listened to them two or three years before guitar hero came out and I dont own it cause I got an actual guitar. Way better! Slipknot is AMAZING! Some people just dont understand that they got two amazing guitarists, one of the (If not the) fastest drummer in the world, and way too many people in their band (Not a bad thing!)! Exactly. The lack of a tone knob is lame, how can you give the features a 10 without that? I understand the reason he did without the tone knob...but I feel like it limits the versatility of the guitar. But I suppose if you're buying a guitar with EMGs, you're aiming to play one kind of music anyways.
POSTED: 08/12/2008 02:55pm

I was about to say this exactly. (Though, I'd take Hammet off the list, since his style is some bastardization of Moustaine and Satriani in my opinion).
And some people do prefer the sound of a fender over an ibanez or dean (personally, I love my Stratacoustic's tone over my [very low end] Ibanez rgx-7).
POSTED: 08/12/2008 08:33pm

Exactly. The lack of a tone knob is lame, how can you give the features a 10 without that? I understand the reason he did without the tone knob...but I feel like it limits the versatility of the guitar. But I suppose if you're buying a guitar with EMGs, you're aiming to play one kind of music anyways.

I gave it a 10 because to me the tone knob has always been kind of useless (I never really use it). I like the less cluttered look...and EMGs or not, I use this guitar to play pretty much any style of music.
POSTED: 08/13/2008 11:24pm

First i have to say to anyone who says smart guitarists don't use tremolos.. what? Not a bright thing to say. I am a fixed bridge kinda guy but get real. Second, I wouldn't snag this piece but I have never been an EMG's fan. I have played one and i have to say it feels very comfortable, and plays well. Huge issue, what the hell is with the no tone knob? I don't think i would ever own a guitar without a tone knob. I use mine too much. I think that is seriously a silly thing not to have on a guitar.
POSTED: 09/24/2008 10:08pm

See, in my experience, metal isn't about what guitar you have, but the attitude you bring with whatever ax you have. If it's all about "balls to the wall" sound (oh god, i hate ACDC), then does the type of pickup you have matter that much? Screw it, grab a Gretsch guitar and crank the gain to ten; you'll get a pretty friggin aggressive sound.
POSTED: 10/03/2008 04:04pm

The guitar is pretty solid. I tried one and didn't realise it was a MIM. EMGs tend to be able to make almost any guitar into a high gain beast, they're designed to do just that with the preamp settings.
Plus I agree with SideshowRaven24, metal is about your attitude and the music, and less about the guitar.
POSTED: 10/04/2008 06:08am

I'm not a fan of fenders and i think that theres going to be a serious flaw with this guitar unless someone can tell me otherwise

all telecasters have a radiused fretboard, this means they are unsuited to playing metal
so unless the fretboard is either flat or a composite radius i don't see the point in this guitars existence at all

just buy an ibanez, jackson, dean or ESP if you want to play metal
and i totally agree with drumpat, mustaine would get his ass kicked by dimebag
POSTED: 10/04/2008 07:29am

BTW, I like a lot of guitars, but Fender makes some amazing instruments. Top to bottom... tone, feel, versatility... you'll find a Fender that you'll love forever if you have an open mind. And it most cases it will cost less than a lot of other comparable guitars that neccessarily feel or sound better. Don't get me wrong, I love LP's and PRS, but damn those things get expensive.
POSTED: 10/04/2008 09:48am

great guitar, and for guys like me who prefer classic models from PRS, Fender, Epiphone/Gibson to play metal with, fantastic. you stick out from the crowd when you play a tobacco burst Singlecut with EMG's and the usual crowd have pointy things or an Ibanez (in black). if you especially see a white tele, who's gonna expect your band to come out with earth shattering riffs ?

+1
Or if you come out with a Midnight Wine colored Fender Tele with a black custom pickguard that has a white outlined dragon on it and still has single coil pickups.
POSTED: 10/05/2008 05:40am

Dave was talking out of his ass on that one. He has used a Floyd Rose (Rude Awakening DVD)and a Kahler (before Jackson built him customs) and every single guitar player Megadeth has had has used a whammybar , maybe not in Megadeth but outside of it.

Chris Poland used it (the titletrack to Killing Is my Business... And Business is Good!'s solo ends with a dive, visible here

.)

So did Jeff Young.

And Marty Friedman (very rarely, but he did use it. On Dragon Mistress and a Cacophony song... Could be Go Off! , not sure.)

Al Pitrelli did, with Alice Cooper.

Glen Drover goes without saying

Chris Broderick uses his whammybar live.

As much as I love Dave's music, he's obviously said a shitload of stupid things.
POSTED: 10/05/2008 07:30am

thanks retard. trem bars are so overrated, and your an idiot for saying fender doesnt equal metal. who cares what a guitar looks like, if it sounds awesome. i hate slipknot with a passion, but jim root is a great guitarost (see black widow of la porte by john 5 for thier trade of solos....very cool) both jim and john 5 play teles and both have amazing metal tones that kill a lot of other guitarists tryhard generic metalcore crap out there. still, id rather seymour duncuns, passives always seemed more natural to me, personal thing.
POSTED: 10/06/2008 02:38am

strange to see remarks on a guitar review go off on such a tangent about everyone's favorite soloist, members positions within a band, and the value of a tremolo ... NONE of that is relevant!

I ran across this guitar in Guitar World and have been waiting on someone to get one in stock - as I plan to purchase one (assuming it tests out okay). In researching the guitar one Fender's site as well as independent sites, I've never seen a remark that says this guitar is for everyone or that you should sell all other guitars in your collection ... IT'S AN OPTION!!!! I own electrics from 7 different manufacturers and getting this one would make 8 - who cares if this ONE guitar doesn't have a tone knob or don't have tremolo option. If those things are important to you - BUY ANOTHER GUITAR, stop nagging. That's like complaining about a guitar having single coils or being too heavy, or having a maple neck or a radical shape. Find guitar(s) that fit YOU, if it doesn't fit, move on to a different one.
POSTED: 10/19/2008 08:11am

Wrong. Nowhere on any official Slipknot site OR on their wikipedia page does it say which one is lead.

Okay, just for everyone complaining about Mustaine's whole tremolo bar comment: lighten up!

Haha. Seriously, I doubt he had guitarists like Vai or Satch in mind when he said this. My guess is it was probably aimed more at those who suck at soloing overall and just need a tremolo bar to make themselves sound more interesting or something. On some level I agree though. Its not to say that everyone who uses a tremolo sucks. But you have to be good without one first before you can be good with one.

Oh and I haven't played this particular guitar yet, but I have played a Tele before. And it has amazing tone. When playing around with it in Guitar Center, I thought it sounded great clean but could also make a great metal guitar. I think taking out the tone knob and adding EMGs robs it of its diverse capabilities a little, but if you want a mainly metal guitar' I say freaking go for it.

Sorry for the long comment. Haha.
u dont need one, its super easy to get the exact same effect just by bending and releasing the string a fret lower than u would playing with a whammy bar, any mediocre guitarist should kniow how to compensate, i use a Laguna, which has a tremolo bar, but i dont use it a lot, and i can still solo great, and btw, im 14
POSTED: 04/04/2009 10:49am

Jim went back and forth with Jackson, Charvel and Fender.. He was using flatheads and san dimas style 2s (which the neck is based off) the charvels also don't have tone toggle. He didn't use it, so he didn't bother putting it on.
I'm amazed at how much people went off the topic, instead saying you need a whammy, dave etc.
POSTED: 12/12/2009 03:43am
