Smart guitarist don't use tremolo's
I hate slipknot but jim root is a smart guitarist.

The emg's are a little much, passive pickups are way better.

You don't need a tremolo system. It's a pain in the ass and gets in the way. It's nice to have at least one guitar with one though. Zakk Wylde is the king!

Only a problem if you actually use a bar...which I don't seeing as I don't play lead. You could always add one if you wanted to, but if a bar is essential to your style then another guitar might be a better option.

Not only does it do metal, but everything else I play -- and better than most of the other guitars I have owned in the past. The heavy body takes a bit of getting used to (I haven't played an LP in over 10 years), but the sustain and "chunkiness" is well-worth the added weight.

Yeah, that was my thought at first...until I plugged it in. The 60/81 combo is much better than the more common 81/85 IMHO.

I was a bit leery at first, but then I realized that I never really played around with them much anyway. I have a programmable 10-channel EQ pedal I could use if I ever had the need to manipulate tones to that degree.

The name of the company doesn't exactly spring "metal" into your head. But the right kind of pickups and gauge strings for the tuning and it can sound like a "metal" axe.

i,m not a slipknot/stone sour fan i must admit i have been biased towards fender after a few bad experiences with them but after trying one of these out at a local guitar centre i must say i was very impressed (i currently own a epiphone custom loaded with gibson dirty fingers and a caparison angelous)this holds well in the metal genre and look forward to playing one live

To most people interested in blues they're probably going to prefer a passive pickup, they are less shallow sounding, but in the end it's really preference, so the no EMGs thing is a perfectly fine comment in my mind, not just an "i don't like metal" i don't like EMGs.

They are great for high gain but to me they lack the "flavor" to pull off other styles perfectly. I would still buy his guitar in a heartbeat though.

Exactly. The lack of a tone knob is lame, how can you give the features a 10 without that? I understand the reason he did without the tone knob...but I feel like it limits the versatility of the guitar. But I suppose if you're buying a guitar with EMGs, you're aiming to play one kind of music anyways.

I was about to say this exactly. (Though, I'd take Hammet off the list, since his style is some bastardization of Moustaine and Satriani in my opinion).

And some people do prefer the sound of a fender over an ibanez or dean (personally, I love my Stratacoustic's tone over my [very low end] Ibanez rgx-7).

The solid mahogany body and ebony fingerboard also contribute to the sound... This beast does metal just fine.

Exactly. The lack of a tone knob is lame, how can you give the features a 10 without that? I understand the reason he did without the tone knob...but I feel like it limits the versatility of the guitar. But I suppose if you're buying a guitar with EMGs, you're aiming to play one kind of music anyways.

I gave it a 10 because to me the tone knob has always been kind of useless (I never really use it). I like the less cluttered look...and EMGs or not, I use this guitar to play pretty much any style of music.

The name of the company doesn't exactly spring "metal" into your head. But the right kind of pickups and gauge strings for the tuning and it can sound like a "metal" axe.

See, in my experience, metal isn't about what guitar you have, but the attitude you bring with whatever ax you have. If it's all about "balls to the wall" sound (oh god, i hate ACDC), then does the type of pickup you have matter that much? Screw it, grab a Gretsch guitar and crank the gain to ten; you'll get a pretty friggin aggressive sound.

He still hasn't gotten over the MetallicA thing.

The guitar is pretty solid. I tried one and didn't realise it was a MIM. EMGs tend to be able to make almost any guitar into a high gain beast, they're designed to do just that with the preamp settings.

Plus I agree with SideshowRaven24, metal is about your attitude and the music, and less about the guitar.

all telecasters have a radiused fretboard, this means they are unsuited to playing metal
so unless the fretboard is either flat or a composite radius i don't see the point in this guitars existence at all

just buy an ibanez, jackson, dean or ESP if you want to play metal

BTW, I like a lot of guitars, but Fender makes some amazing instruments. Top to bottom... tone, feel, versatility... you'll find a Fender that you'll love forever if you have an open mind. And it most cases it will cost less than a lot of other comparable guitars that neccessarily feel or sound better. Don't get me wrong, I love LP's and PRS, but damn those things get expensive.

Maybe you've never heard Yngwie Malmsteen? It must be hard to see the fretboard with your head that far up your a**. I have a modified strat that sounds great with high gain. And fyi, I took the whammy bar off of my Jackson cuz I kept tearing my knuckles open on it.

and again...god, perfectionism is a disease called OCD I played at least 4 EMG guitars, and i've played them on some solid state and tube amps. I love playing with a lot of harmonics and I just can't get a good sounding harmonic out of it. Thats just my opinion. Don't flame just because of an opinion because a lot of people would agree that Blackouts are better.

Again, I have one, with EMG's and it's the warmest sounding guitar I own. I, too, play with lots of harmonics and they sound beautiful with those EMG's. Also, it's kind of funny you telling me not to "flame", as you wrote a general statement "EMG's sound very sterile". Thanks for the advice. Though, I think I'll continue to do what I want to do.

thanks retard. trem bars are so overrated, and your an idiot for saying fender doesnt equal metal. who cares what a guitar looks like, if it sounds awesome. i hate slipknot with a passion, but jim root is a great guitarost (see black widow of la porte by john 5 for thier trade of solos....very cool) both jim and john 5 play teles and both have amazing metal tones that kill a lot of other guitarists tryhard generic metalcore crap out there. still, id rather seymour duncuns, passives always seemed more natural to me, personal thing.

I ran across this guitar in Guitar World and have been waiting on someone to get one in stock - as I plan to purchase one (assuming it tests out okay). In researching the guitar one Fender's site as well as independent sites, I've never seen a remark that says this guitar is for everyone or that you should sell all other guitars in your collection ... IT'S AN OPTION!!!! I own electrics from 7 different manufacturers and getting this one would make 8 - who cares if this ONE guitar doesn't have a tone knob or don't have tremolo option. If those things are important to you - BUY ANOTHER GUITAR, stop nagging. That's like complaining about a guitar having single coils or being too heavy, or having a maple neck or a radical shape. Find guitar(s) that fit YOU, if it doesn't fit, move on to a different one.

Haha. Seriously, I doubt he had guitarists like Vai or Satch in mind when he said this. My guess is it was probably aimed more at those who suck at soloing overall and just need a tremolo bar to make themselves sound more interesting or something. On some level I agree though. Its not to say that everyone who uses a tremolo sucks. But you have to be good without one first before you can be good with one.

Oh and I haven't played this particular guitar yet, but I have played a Tele before. And it has amazing tone. When playing around with it in Guitar Center, I thought it sounded great clean but could also make a great metal guitar. I think taking out the tone knob and adding EMGs robs it of its diverse capabilities a little, but if you want a mainly metal guitar' I say freaking go for it.

u dont need one, its super easy to get the exact same effect just by bending and releasing the string a fret lower than u would playing with a whammy bar, any mediocre guitarist should kniow how to compensate, i use a Laguna, which has a tremolo bar, but i dont use it a lot, and i can still solo great, and btw, im 14

Jim went back and forth with Jackson, Charvel and Fender.. He was using flatheads and san dimas style 2s (which the neck is based off) the charvels also don't have tone toggle. He didn't use it, so he didn't bother putting it on.

I'm amazed at how much people went off the topic, instead saying you need a whammy, dave etc.

Oh, and Root & Thomson alternate leads for Slipknot and Jim Root opens out with some awesomely thick alt rokc sounds in Stone Sour anyways. If this guitar can do all that, I'm more than happy - I'm a riffmeister anyways - tremolo's are for guys with no finger strength...

Man i have an emg 81X on my dean ml .. 81X is like a noiseless 81.. Better bat litle diferend.. Anyway the neck of this fender is shit! Dont give money to change the pichups..
