serious guys dont buy a spider 2. Alot of these reviews are people who are just bragging about their current and only amp. They are loud but they really do suck like a marshall mg. If you want alot of distortion just buy a heavy distortion pedal.
POSTED: 03/09/2006 06:13am

the MG's have nothing on these things, read the reviews at musician's friend, there's guys rihgt there comparing this amp to an AVT and the AVT still lost, besides this amp is the epitome of human lazyness, i love it have the 212 combo though, i also have a Peavy Valveking and that one is a bit better than the spider but it's still pretty amazing.
POSTED: 03/09/2006 08:56am

Also, Line 6 amps take a long time to tweak, so dont give up. You can get a good sound out of them, but it takes alot of work. Plus these amps help you learn what other amps sound like. Not a pro amp, but definetly a better beginner amp than the MG.
POSTED: 03/09/2006 10:27am

This amp is one of my larger mistakes, and probably the biggest hunk of junk in my rig next to the Sammick that only accepts four strings at the moment. I spent over a year trying to get a better sound with it, and then just totally gave up when I joined a band and bought a halfstack. It don't take long to tweak, not long at all, I just spent a year digging for something that wasn't there. Though currently I'm forced to use it again since my new band's practice space is veerrry small, and whoever said they don't have to use a metal zone cuz they distortion on it is so good, haha, nope. I run it on clean (which is no where near as good as the clean on my Mesa... yes, my MESA, it's THAT bad.)with no effects whatsoever with an ME-50 in front of it. The metal zone makes it sound 10 times better, well the ME as a whole does, but it's still god awful. If you want a multiple-trick pony like this, buy a Roland Cube...I really hate this thing...
POSTED: 03/09/2006 01:08pm

line 6 sucks. flat out end of story. their amps sound horrible. they sound completly digital. they throw tone into the wind and just ad like a thousand effects. the rythem guitarist in our band decided he wanted to buy a head. that was a bad idea. it sounded like shit. i have a dual rec and it sounds way better then that peice of crap. he decided to sell it a month later to buy the exact head i have. if you buy a line 6, its because you really dont know what your doing and how to minipulate a decent amp. mesa boogie or randal or a krank for that matter. just never, EVER get a line 6 amp.
POSTED: 03/09/2006 04:00pm

its an amazing amp, you fools, you shouldn't spent the extra 80 bucks and bought the model up which comes with the footswitch. it has amazing rock tones, and is huge! and whats this about dials?? you do realise you can preset your tones?
line 6 is a god sent perfect rock tone
the only thing id change/add is perhaps include a more jazz tone, a spikey trebly lightly overdriven tone, the similar to the blues one, but that can be too bassy for my liking

I would suggest that he doesnt know how to use the amp or program in settings, or infact get it from a good dealer. To turn effects/reverb off u just have to turn the dials to zero then hold the channel select button till it flashes. As for having to run over to it to change settings, id take it back to your dealer and demand they give u the free FBV2 u shud get with it.
Iv played alot of amps this small and this ones takes them all on. The effects arent brilliant, but whos buys an amp for the effects? For 75 watts it can pack a punch and doesnt need micing up in most halls/venues.
Great amp.
POSTED: 03/31/2006 12:38pm

I'm sorry.. the Celestion speaker is pretty damn nice.

But you can keep the edits, cuz I'm pretty sure they're not gunna make it sound any different from the digital piece of shit it is. It has a horrible tone in any environment. Idiots like the guy from Evenesence use it for god sakes. And yeah, I know about the noise gate because you HAVE to use it or else you'll sound like the guitarist from The Chariot. And I'm well aware of the tuner and the gain boost secret features too, neither of which I find very effective. It's also so stupid easy to bump a knob and have like, the chorus and the sweep echo come on and your volume double or something. You might have bad taste in tone enough to like this thing, but there are so many better choices out there for the money.
POSTED: 03/31/2006 09:32pm

some 'features' of my line 6 amp:
- a tape echo that cant be turned of
- a build in reverb
- an somewhat too cruncy crunch channel
- and go on

i only use this amp with the insane sound which is mediocre the others are too poor to play
POSTED: 04/01/2006 03:57pm

when it's a relatively anonymous online message board system, people tend to let loose their restrictions on word choice and just drop them f-bombs or wutever. i think online reviews when written by "certain" people tend to be more exaggerated than they actually are. For me i am biased towards analog technology when it comes to guitars, and all my gear are analog circuitry so when i see "digital modeling" or something i feel its never as good as the real deal of which it tried to copy.
POSTED: 04/24/2006 04:43pm

Got this one a while back... I rented a Marshall MG30 for a while, and this one is much more preferable - to me. I tested about 15 different amps, and this one (the 212) is the one I finally settled on - the insane setting is way too much fun. Crunch is good for the boring rock we call Nickelback, and Metal is good for the good rock we call Metallica... and Insane is good for my personal favorite, Maylene & the Sons of Disaster.

So basically, I can play whatever I want on here, I can preset everything to my exact preferences, I can create my own sound and I like it.
POSTED: 04/25/2006 12:50am

I like my 112 alot, it's got all the effects I'd ever need, and it has held togeather really well despite some minor abuse. I still need to get the FVB Shortboard, but I'm sure it's worth the $100 they want for it (I mean 'cmon, it has a wah built right in).

It really is all personal preference, and I'm sure I'll end up buying a really high-end amp later on (tube Marshall or Mesa/Boogie), but I just don't have the money now. Right now this is the amp for me.

Protip: The "green" metal distortion with the drive at ~5 and the mid at ~4 makes one hell of a tight hardcore tone...no muddyness, and brutal as hell.
POSTED: 05/22/2006 05:48pm

Ive owned this amp for 8 months now.. and it is a god sent. The tones are awesome, i can switch quickly using the presets and can adjust and tweak the amp to get ANY tone i want to get. You just need to learn how to use it, then you got yourself a kick ass amp.

If i play live with a band, im gonna buy the line 6 spider amp head for sure as well as the floorboard. Amp 6 kicks ass, i like it so much im gonna buy the line 6 lowdown bass amps. I cant wait.
for me coming up from a practice amps with three nobs on to this was overwhelming at first but now i have it sorted and have some settings saved to it which i love cause it gives me plenty of dirt in my sound.
POSTED: 07/15/2006 01:23am

Everyone who hates Line 6 has some personal vendetta against them for whatever idiotic reason. Most likely they can't afford to buy a beautiful amp, or they can't figure out simple knob turning to get a great sound. Line 6 makes some of the best amps in the world. Especially their half-stack. The Spider II is a wonderful amp and has great versatility. I'd like to see your Marshal, Vox, or Roland sound as sexy as my Line 6.
POSTED: 08/22/2006 01:57pm

You're all ignorant morons. I have had this amp for over 2 years and have been playing for over 5. I only own this amp because I use it for my own personal use - I don't gig or anything with it recently (although I have in the past). When I did use it for gigs, only problem I had was that it was a bit too heavy in weight for my liking (not that my previous Fender wasn't heavy at all).

The effects sound amazing on this guitar - for all you naysayers who say it sounds too digital, you haven't heard digital until you've listened to a Digitech pedal. This amp comes nothing close to sounding digital at all! As with all things, I sat down and messed around with the amp for a good 6 weeks before I was able to get AMAZING tone out of it (needless to say half the time I was truly ****ing around). Any tone that I have heard in a song I have been able to pull out of this amp with such ease and understanding that it was almost as if the amp did it itself.

But, don't get me wrong. I'm not as biased as you think. I've been in a band and played on MESAs, Fenders, Crate, Kustoms... you name it and I've most likely had some experience with it. For it's price and versatility, this amp easily gets a 10 and blows away many of those amps that are so ridiculously priced (I can just see all you bandwagon losers bashing me right now for this one).

Out of experience and knowledge, don't bash on this amp just because a blatantly ignorant comment you just-so-happened to hear from someone. And with all things, be more open-minded and respect people's opinions.

I don't appreciate the fact that the "featured review" is so biased against Line6.
I don't need a SpiderII review to tell me whether a PodXTLive is better than an ME50 or not. I don't need a SpiderII review to tell me that the Variax sucks.
As far as I know, Line6 does not make amps where it's impossible to turn off the effects.

personnally i think this amp is ok, its all about personal preference in what sorta tone your lookin for. and people bashin these amps and MG's, dunno if you realised, but theyre not saupposed to be ****ing amazing. theyre made as cheaper versions because some people cant afford these expensive high range amps that your all boasting about, im gonna buy an MG 100DFX for £230 because i cant afford to pay over £600 for decent head and £300 for another cab. so just cause u can afford to buy awesome amps and put down these 1's, remember that some people like 18 yr old students like myself, dont have quite a fat wallet
On a more serious note, I have the model down from this amp, the 2002 edition of the Spider II, and I have to say that mine is a fantastic little amp. It does belt out a hell of a volume, although with the Insane sound I can't help but thinking the Metal effect was a bit pointless. Mine is a 30 Watt / 12 inch output, by the way, so I'm not sure what power you are talking about with this one but mine is brilliant. Would never replace a £2500 Marshall with FX pedals, however, but you can't call it a "practice" amp either.
POSTED: 09/19/2006 04:13pm

im using a custom warlock with super distortion pickups and this amp works perfectly with the sound.
and unlike most amps with a warlock you dont just get a hissy mess. defnitly a good buy (got it for £140 coz i know the guy in the shop haha)
POSTED: 10/11/2006 11:57am

Yeah, my Marshall MG15DFX could kick this things ass. I don't give a damn if my amp is cheaper, if my amp is only 25W, if I have to use a distortion pedal. I also heard that all the Line6 amps sound digital. If you need a digital amp, you are probrably into techno-guitar stuff. And as for the PodXT Live, wow. I've never used one. But I've seen pictures of it, and it looks to me like you'll need to do some menu-scrolling. With an ME-50, you just need to know how to !OMG! turn a dial. I don't care for Line6 products. And as for being poor...if all you ever do is sit at home and play guitar/dream about getting that really sweet amp/guitar so you don't have to settle for crappy amps/guitars, get your ass off the couch, and set the damn potato chips down. Get a job and save up the money. I want a Crate fullstack combo. It doesn't come with effects, but who cares? That's why I'll buy an ME-50. Because if I get a job, I will have money. It's simple. However, if you are just learning guitar, your tone doesn't matter. Unless you're a loser and right from the start learning how to read tabs, and all you care about is playing in a damn talent show.
POSTED: 10/25/2006 07:48pm

Ok,first off.Not a practice amp,it's seriously loud,(yes i have used it for gigs).Second IT DOES NOT SOUND DIGITAL,whichever retard wrote this has nooooo clue what they are doing with amps because it is INCREDIBLY easy to get an awesome sound out of it(hell,if i can do it.....).and lastly whoever "if you can buy a marshall or a valve amp instead,get one" is a friggin liar,i've played various marshalls,valves and other soild states.Marshalls:RIP OFF,if you wanna pay £800 for the same power amp with a lower sound quality,go ahead screw urselves over.If you decide on a budget option (but by no means THE single best amp out there) get this.I've used valves amps with and without distortion pedals aswell,same deal (overpriced bad sound).The people on here that say "i can get most sounds out of it" are more or less spot on,you just have to tweak.And if you are really stuck for an awesome tone try this;

Channel:insane
Drive:full
Bass:half
Mid:NONE (the amp gives loads anyway)
Treble:Full (doesn't sound tinny in the slightest)
Reverb:i like full but try half if ur not sure

NOTE:these setting work best with the bridge humbucker

ANYWAY.....at the end of this stupidly long comment (i couldn't resist) i thouroghly recommend this unless you find a peavey or vox at half the price.
POSTED: 02/20/2007 12:10pm

I've been playing music for 13 years now. I have owned an old Fender amp long ago, a Marshall, a Park(also by Marshall), and a Crate. I don't have anything bad to say about either of them.

I got to use a Line 6 212 a few times at one of the practice studios my band uses, and all I can say is damn... It sounded awesome! I played with the settings, and my drummer even asked me how I got it to sound like that, because our previous guitarist couldn't get that sound... I just know what I like. And it was hella loud! It made me think twice about my decision to get a Crate GLX 120 half stack. Don't get me wrong, Crate is awesome, but I really like how the Line 6 sounds!

I have to laugh when people diss Line 6! No one has hearing attuned enough to hear the "digital" in these amps. If so, why the hell would James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett use Line 6 stomp boxes??? Sure they use Mesa's and Marshall's, but who wouldn't making their kind of income?

I doubt as to whether some of the haters even own or have owned a Line 6 amplifier, let alone tried one out at a store! If you own a different brand of amplifier, why come to another brand's review page? If you're so happy about what you own, why rain on what other people are happy about?

Personally, I like it, and will buy a half stack soon. I don't care what people think... Line 6 is awesome!
POSTED: 03/05/2007 10:28pm

Alright, i dont have much to say because what i have to say is straight forword. My First impression about the amp was "this is really awesome!". After two times playing at my friends house my impression was "what the f--k is with this built in reverb effect that i cant remove!?". I took it to get fixed cause i thought that it had broke, but after i got my amp back(luckily it was under warrenty at the time) the amp still had the reverb problem and then people said that the amp was in perfect condition, this confused the f--cking crap out of me. I thought that it would be fine and we could over look the reverb problem and move on. A week after i get the amp back, my band gets together and we start playing, about an hour into it, the amp starts to have a Really bad reverb problem, so i go online and ask around and it turns out that line 6 isnt built with quality goods, its built with cat sh-t. I still love the effects that are built into it but the reverb thing is pissing me off so much and it just keeps getting worse and i cant hold a note without hearing some insanly loud reverb in the amp. and just for that i give the amp a 2.5
POSTED: 03/06/2007 01:15am

I own A 75-watt spiderII as well as a fancy class A all tube Vox AC30.

The biggest reason to own a Line 6 is the value. For under 300$ you can do so much. First things first, throw the presets out the window. Make your own and save them instead. If you are looking for clean or overdrive you will need to crank the amp a little or it will sound too hollow and too fuzzy. Even when they are cranked, there is still plenty of room for improvement. The metal tones for this amp are pretty great. I use the insane model, but i cut back on the drive a little, add more bass and fix the mids sweep, and it can definitely explode a few heads.

If you are a beginner this amp is PERFECT for you. Chances are that you have not solidified what direction you want to take your playing, so with this amp you can figure that out first before dropping the big bucks.

I would also recommend that you not stay with this amp forever. Its not a matter of opinion, there are better amps than this one, but those amps are also much more expensive. I got my Vox AC30 now that my playing has gone that direction, and it sounds much better, but I would have never gotten to that point without the line 6.
POSTED: 06/26/2007 11:51pm

MARSHALL takes a million years to get a good sound out of it, it took me 20 mins to get a nice clean sound on an Epiphone LP, and then another 30 mins to get a nice distortion setting.and if you werent such a moron and used your ****ing head, you should have used Line 6 Edit online so you can tweak your settings the way you want them, they also have extra presets online, also turd brain there's a noise gate in the amp, watch the Line 6 videos, i love my 212 combo and i play a 112 combo every time i got to GC just for fun, if you dont like this amp, dude you've got some problems.

Fixed. This amp isn't as bad as people make out, I think it's quite good, but I much prefer my own Roland Cube 60.
POSTED: 07/04/2007 12:36pm

personnally i think this amp is ok, its all about personal preference in what sorta tone your lookin for. and people bashin these amps and MG's, dunno if you realised, but theyre not saupposed to be ****ing amazing. theyre made as cheaper versions because some people cant afford these expensive high range amps that your all boasting about, im gonna buy an MG 100DFX for £230 because i cant afford to pay over £600 for decent head and £300 for another cab. so just cause u can afford to buy awesome amps and put down these 1's, remember that some people like 18 yr old students like myself, dont have quite a fat wallet
[rant/]

damn right, I have this amp, and after the trade in of some other stuff I had to pay $100 for it in cash, it was 200 used, and I love it. Before I had a 15W Crate, and honestly, that had no noise cancellation, and heavy gain would even go noisy with humbuckers.

I had a choice between this, and a MG30 for the same price, or I could get the same amp I just sold. Pretty obvious choice.

I know it isn't a great tube amp, and I know I'll get laughed at when I go to small gigs with it, but I have no job, no money, and couldn't get better unless I stole a new amp.

It's got one decent clean sound (red clean) and many decent distorted ones (both crunch, both metal, one of the insanes, the other is crap though)

seriously, you guys don't need to make people like us feel worse because we're poor. I seriously don't think there is anything wrong with it for the price, as some of us can't afford $100 unless we skip meals for a few weeks.
POSTED: 07/29/2007 05:53am

I dont understand why anyone would buy a line 6 when you could get a Roland Cube thats in the same price range it just dosent make any sense at all to me out of all the modeling amps out there Roland is the best(excluding the mesa boogie road king of course). In my opinion all amps within this price range go in this order. Roland, Vox, line 6, Marshall, Crate. Vox and Roland are very close to a good sound but the Roland is only a little bit bettor. Trust me there is no reason to buy a line 6 when you could easily get a bettor amp for the same price.
POSTED: 08/29/2007 05:28pm

Today i returned my Mesa express amp 5:25 & picked up the brand new SPIDERVALVE 112 40 watt combo amp with 12 inch speaker. Iam into metal music & the Mesa Express Amp is a fricken waste of $ & time. Marshall always seems to piss me off in a way , so i gave this Line 6 a run for its money that cost me 810$. All i can say is everyone , go try the new SpiderValve cuz this thing is the ultimate sounding bang for the buck. Its a Tube Amp that screams any tone ya want & then some, & i plan never to get rid of this amp, she staying with me till the end lol. I can honestly say that i couldnt be happier with the sound i get from this amp, iam running a Jackson RR24 with the single EMG-81 at the bridge & finally i can say goodbye to all the effect pedals & whatever i had to buy to get 1 great sound with all the upper end amps ive tried . Anybody wanna diss my comment , go try the new spiderValve & then you can come back & kiss my ass & thank me for telling you a great thing to do .O by the way this new amp has 500 presets built into it , so iam off to jam to the slipknot setting that sends me to the moon everytime , & good luck & have fun being miserable with trying to figure out your own sound ya losers.....
POSTED: 10/31/2007 02:13am

Once you realize what tone is this amp will disgust you. I can only recommend this to a beginner, and only if you find it for cheap. The only channel that I use is "Insane", and it is pretty bad. The distortion is scratchy and fuzzy, the bass is terrible and the highs are annoyingly shrilly, and the mids are muddy as hell. The amp is so digital sounding it's crazy. You can definitely do better than this amp, but if you don't have an ear for tone yet it might satisfy you for a few months.
POSTED: 02/20/2008 11:28pm

Our school has a Line 6 Spider 1 and it sounds so digital. I would recommend you to buy some Roland Cube if you want a modeling amp. They don't sound as digital as Line 6. I don't know about the other Spiders but Spider 1 sounds sooooo digital. I compared it to HH Electronic combo our school has and the HH beat it easily. The crunch channel just lacked something.

And I don't get it. With a non-digital amp you will get many sounds and one real amp has much more variety than one amp model of the same amp. It may have even as much variety as the whole modeling amp. So I recommend you to buy a non-digital amp and if you want effects, buy a chorus and delay. Those are all you need at the beginning (and maybe a phaser). Of course the amp must have distortion and clean, if it doesn't just buy a distortion pedal.
POSTED: 06/18/2011 06:17am
