Because tiny teenage girls who have no clue what they're gonna do with theire lives listen to them.

I'm more concerned about the fact that theire fans are teenage girls and the album cover kind of shows a close resemblance to pedobear.
POSTED: 12/16/2008 06:08am

Yeah, but the only reason they're growing more popular is because most of these "haters" are either scene kids or people that just listen to any garbage you throw in front of them. Not dissing the band, but just saying...
POSTED: 12/16/2008 09:39am

I agree with this, but even liking most of their back catalogue, this album tested my patience beyond measure.

I completely agree with the review that everything got too cluttered...

And is it just me or is Wentz going for some faux-obscura-meta***** lyrical style, following in the steps of PATD's last album almost? Not welcome...
POSTED: 12/16/2008 10:09am

lol this band sucks, they're over hyped, and what this review does is bring it back to the basics....yes, they're popular, yes they're very succesfull, but take away the hype, and the little teenage screaming girls, and you're left with the music, which is total pants.

There are other bands around with way more talent but not as well heard of and it sucks.
POSTED: 12/16/2008 10:31am

And I'll be the one to say that if you like this albulm or even this band you have no balls because you either are or wannabe a teenage girl.

And yeah I listen to killswitch engage and other "scream-o" type band and if I want to check the "other stuff out there" I flip over to lamb of god...not Fall Out Girl...

First of all, you're saying people who like FOB are or want to be teenage girls. Are you pulling that out of your ass or something? Just because a band is "popular" doesn't necessarily mean they are good or bad, it just means they attract a lot of people because of their style which a lot of people tend to like (maybe teenage girls, I don't know). You can have your own opinion, but saying that you're a pussy or want to be a girl is a little ridiculous...

Personally, Killswitch Engage is my favorite band and metalcore is my favorite genre. Does that mean I HAVE to hate this band? No. Try broadening your horizons a little bit there bud, and you'll see that there's more to music than just metal. Trust me.

Anyways I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but from the 30-second previews on iTunes a couple of them seem like they could be fairly decent.
POSTED: 12/16/2008 11:34am

Sorry bro but TBS IS emo (Idt FOB really is) and there's no way in hell they're better than Slayer. I don't even like Slayer but they're better in every way compared to bands like TBS.

Anyway,
I have noo interest in this album whatsoever. They completely lost me after IFOH and the fact that Lil' Wayne is on one of the tracks just makes me sick. I did enjoy Take This to Your Grave though.
POSTED: 12/16/2008 02:50pm

Tbh, I really am not a Fall Out Boy fan. I do kinda like their old stuff, it reminds me of how Hit The Lights was before they changed singers: catchy, memorable, very much punk-influenced but poppy, and good. But for any even formerly punk band to have a guest spot by an over-hyped rapper on an original song, thats just a bit too far in the pop direction. I Dont Care sounds like one of the many rock-inspired pop songs, with lyrics much like Pink would write. I honestly think that, altho im only judging by the lead single and past efforts from them, that this is their poppiest effort yet. For guys that warm up with Pantera riffs and have a drummer like Hurley(best member of the band imo), they have very little metal or punk left in em it seems.
POSTED: 12/16/2008 04:23pm

To all those who listened to the album and gave it a fair comment, well done.

I've been a fan from the start, from TTTYG right up to IOH, and Infinity On High was probably my favourite of the lot (which seems to leave me in a minority against all the TTTYG loving ex-FOB fans).

This album has some great songs. Sure it's more pop than even IOH, but they're developing as a band and this is a good record. Some of the collaborations work, others don't. Some of the production is a little too grandiose for my liking too.

But overall, a good album. And definitely a grower. I'd recommend all FOB fans to get this, regardless of which of their back catalogue is their favourite. The last two songs on the album - 20 Dollar Nose Bleed and West Coast Smoker - are just fantastic.
POSTED: 12/16/2008 04:50pm

i like fall out boy generally i think their lyrics are interesting and Patrick's voice is superb. I've only listened to this album full through a few times, and so far, suffice to say i'm a little disappointed with it.

I feel like they are trying maybe a little too much to change their sound each album instead of writing the songs that come to them.

Ok, give the guys a break! it seems like nothing they do is right! I really love this album. Yes, it may be "over-produced" and too show offish, but they seem really sincere about insisting that they are trying really hard to produce music that is true to themselves and still enjoyable for their fans. That coupled with the recent article by Patrick Stump in the new york times about him never wanting to be famous and being completley okay with pete taking the fame and credit for fall out boy almost made me cry. They are trying so hard to please everyone, and yes their sound has changed from the hardcore screamo they used to do, but everyone changes, and they are still really great musicians. I am not ashamed to say that I love this album!
POSTED: 12/16/2008 07:05pm

Noticed and lol'd.

Also i'm under the impression fall out boy don't necessarily write their own material. They are essentaily a pop act and producers always play a big part in a pop act's direction and the song writing process. Whats was big when there first couple big songs came out? Good Charlotte and stuff? and now? Dance and club music. so this "turn" really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Also with that said, hazing them in comments would be like hazing backstreet boys or nsync. it's just a boy band with guitars, so don't take it so serious.
POSTED: 12/16/2008 07:10pm

So what if they don't have artistic integrity anymore, if that's the direction they ant to go in, then why should we complain?

To be honest, most of the people here will probably be downloading it free anyway, so why complain just because you don't like it, don't post in the first place. And stop arguing on messageboards ffs, I am definetly not coming back to this review.
POSTED: 12/16/2008 07:50pm

I like lots of music. FOB makes some good music. Metal is good, punk is good, (some) pop is good, Ska is the best, classic rock is good, 80s music is good, soul music is good, funk music is good, classic music is good. People are so silly. Why do the people that don't like Fall Out Boy invest so much time reading reviews and commenting relentlessly to people that had intelligent things to say. FYI this review is exactly right. WAY overproduced and with any luck they will fade off a little bit and return to their former sound a bit. I know my favorite band of all time had a few records that were kinda sell-out/pop ish (Less Than Jake) but then they came back when people didn't like it and made a new record that kicks all kinds of ass. Intelligent, open-minded people will think highly of the 2000s music because there really are some amazing things happening. This isn't necessarily one of them but thats life. You try things and you don't know if it will be successful until you do. Don't be a hater.
POSTED: 12/17/2008 04:47am

I for one, didn't like the new album due to the fact that it really isn't catchy anymore which is their main selling point...
But kudos to them for writing more interesting lyrics than IOH (which was catchy but lacked lyrical creativity)...
POSTED: 12/17/2008 06:22am

um, they are just following their musical progression- theres only so much you can squeeze out of one genre. Plus Patrick once said that he always wanted to sing RnB... put it this way, all bands progress musicaly. I mean, look what happened to the killers from their first to second album... and dare i say it, bands that don't, fade away into nothing... Oasis move around in a circle so much that you never know when their songs were written...
POSTED: 12/17/2008 06:41am

I understand that the and has changed since Take This To Your Grave, but times and music have changed. Plus it is very difficult to write the same kinds of songs over and over. That would be so boring. When you are writing music, whatever happens, happens, they should be pruod of themselves because they have taken a turn in their music. On Folie A Deux, Fall Out Boy seems to have grown up. So, if you dont have anything good to say about this album, dont post a comment. None wants to hear your bullshit of how the band WAS great and now SUCK. They don't. Plus, they have already made millions of dollars more than you have. So, shut the **** up about how you don't like Fall Out Boy.
POSTED: 12/20/2008 05:44pm

I know it's like throwing yourself to the lions these days, but I like FOB if not just for the fact that they have some damn catchy songs. commercial or not, take this to you grave is one of the best cds out there, the songs where alot harder (if terms of fall out boy, im not trying to compare them to any metalcore or anything) pete wentz was writing good lyrics and belting out some pretty decent screams while Stump was singing. The bass lines have always been basic and the guitar rifts have always been good and memorable. They have definitely softened up since under the cork tree and I was disappointed after listening to this album; especially after I thought that they might try and go back to their "take this to your grave" roots. But you have to respect the fact that if nothing else, they are out there making music and trying to reinvent their sound.
POSTED: 12/21/2008 03:30pm

OKAY! I just set up a whole stupid account with this site just so I could stick up for Fall Out Boy.

These reviews are written by older generation people who all have their heads shoved up the pious rear ends of the arrogant, talentless fools that form bands like Led Zeppelin and Metallica. And all you metalheads are just a bunch of heartless, Godless, porn addicts with hideous greasy hair and obviously a skewed brain that allows you listen to crap like Lamb of God or Killswitch.

K so now that I've bashed YOU, let me tell you all about Fall Out Boy.

Fall Out Boy is one of the best bands ever formed on the face of this earth. NOT because they're amazing musicians. But because their music is filled to the brim with beautiful nostalgia and a version of teenage angst that has some intelligence to it and never turns to actual darkness. I love Fall Out Boy because they understand and depict every emotion I've ever felt, good or bad. They make the good better and the bad feel like it's going to be okay. I would not be the person I am today without Fall Out Boy. Without Pete's unique, incredible, picturesque lyrics. I don't care that Joe Trohman doesn't (or possibly can't) bust out a wailing guitar solo like any guitarist in a metal or classic band, or that Andy doesn't blow your mind with complex time signatures. NONE OF THAT FREAKING MATTERS!!! YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE AN AMAZING MUSICIAN TO MAKE AMAZING MUSIC!!! What matters is honesty. That's it. Honesty and emotion. Fall Out Boy has more honesty than any band I've ever heard, and not to mention more intelligence, lyrically. And don't you DARE tell me that that means I haven't listened to very much music. Music has been my life, my ENTIRE Life. I've been through a phase of just about every genre, and Fall Out Boy just has something that no other band or single musician has. I can't even put my finger on it or put it into any words that would do it justice. But it is beautiful. They are simply incomparable. They have saved my life, expanded my vocabulary, inspired me to be a better person countless times, and provided me with the most priceless memories through the combination of whatever that beauty is and their amazing live shows.

And yes, they have changed their sound quite a bit since their first record, but that hasn't changed. But actually, personally I'd be more disappointed in them if they DIDN'T change. PEOPLE CHANGE, YOU IDIOTS!! I bet YOU aren't the same person you were when TTTYG came out. Neither are Fall Out Boy, and they have alot more excuse to change than you do, that's for sure.

And now I'll say a bit about Folie a Deux alone, seeing as that is the purpose for this whole thread. Folie a Deux is definitely not their best record, but then again you can't really name their best one. Because they're all amazing, with the exception of Evening Out With Your Girlfriend..that one is embarrassing. This album is just as filled with emotion and classic, clever lines to be written on notebooks and myspace pages for years and years to come, just as the 3 preceding it. The only song I really do not like on the whole thing is West Coast Smoker. I believe the album should have ended with 20 Dollar Nosebleed. 20 Dollar is probably pretty close to my favorite song, until it is ruined by that stupid dark poem leading into that horrible, screamo last track. That last song just left the record with a dark feeling, which is not FOB at all. I actually hated that song so much, I unchecked it when I imported the CD into my iTunes. I then proceeded to stick 20 Dollar into Garageband and cut off the poem, then burn the cd anew with 20 Dollar as the last track. All FOB's albums have a different unique sound, bringing new beauty and credulity to their name. This record is no exception.

If you don't like Fall Out Boy, you either don't have a soul, you're old, or your ears are broken. The end.

Sincerely
A dedicated Fall Out Boy fan
POSTED: 12/23/2008 11:38am

The review is alrite and I really can understand the whole over production stuff it's talking about.
But just because Fall Out Boy's last two haven't been their best doesn't mean that can't change.
In my opinion Take This To Your Grave will always be their best album, and yes it's even better than From Under The Cork Tree.
People complain about Wentz being such an attention hog, but without him I don't think the band would have attracted such a following albiet its a crowd mostly of girls my age.
And the fact that Wentz's writing is starting to irritate me, and that he really needs to stop looking at Brendon Urie's songbook can really be overlooked with the fact that Patrick Stump is probably one of the best singers of all time imo.
What I'm trying to say is that while Folie a Deux is definetly not their best album, don't count them out yet.
Maybe they'll look around the web and see we want another Grand Theft Autumn or Chicago is Two Years ago.

He has an amazing range, that I would kill for. You all can hate on them all you want, but it just makes you look sad that you would just waste your time posting derogatory comments on an internet forum instead of actually doing something about it. Not all pop music is bad, hell most of Patrick's influences are talented as well. So if you think your so much better the Fall Out Boy, prove it. Me on the other hand, I'm going to go listen to my new favorite album and try to make myself a better musician.
POSTED: 01/06/2009 11:12pm

Personally, I love this album. Does that make me stupid? Does that mean I have bad taste? No, I don't think it does. It means I'm entitled to like what I like (which is practically everything from Tupac to the Beatles and all the in-betweens), and so I should. Actually, songs like Tiffany Blews make me respect musicians more. Good on them for taking a risk, good on them for attempting to intergrate music. If we want to 'go there', I think Aerosmith and Run DMC tried it back in the day, too.

Either way, whether they brought out TTTYG#2 or FAD, people just wouldn't be happy. For the former, it would be "THEY HAVEN'T GROWN, THEY HAVEN'T IMPROVED, ALL THEIR SONGS SOUND THE SAME, HE'S A 20+ YEAR OLD MARRIED MAN STILL ANGSTING ABOUT THE HOMECOMING DANCE, WHAT?!" (just roll that over in your mind for a moment, because it is pretty ridiculous), and for the latter.. well, need I say more than what has already been said? People don't seem to realise that they've dug Fall Out Boy into a hole where they really can't do anything without being slandered. Well, in my humble opinion, they shouldn't need to go out of their way to impress and make hits for us. Who are we to say "They shouldn't have tried that" or "That song sucks, it shouldn't have been released" or "I want another Grand Theft Autumn"? It's their lives, their job, their music, and - in the end - their satisfaction. Our satisfaction - or lack, thereof - should just be an added bonus. That should apply to all musicians; I don't think they should ever be limited to what they think we want. Just because they're famous doesn't mean they should have to change the approach they took to music when they were sitting in their bedroom, after school, learning tabs off the internet.

If an artist painted only for the sake of the gallery, showed no growth and didn't dare to mix paints with pastels or charcoal, how would we look at them? Music is art, to me - abstract or realism, it's still art, and everyone is entitled to artistic merit .

Hate it or love it - I just so happen to love it.
actually, all the things you listed first are what you are, for paying money for THIS FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT. i like some pop punk bands, and this i didnt even have the grace of buying. i would download this off the internet illegally 7 times and then delete it it sucks so much. the fact that theyre all pretentious fags also adds up to the truth that they suck, and the fact is, they do write about "ANGSTING ABOUT THE HIGHSCHOOL DANCE." their song writing skills add up to about a pile of cow feces.
POSTED: 01/09/2009 10:28pm

I think that people have to understand that Fall Out Boy are only bashed so much because of their bass player Pete Wentz. I personally am a fan of Fall Out Boy, and i love their stuff, but even i realize that Pete Wentz has become nothing other than a press pleaser. He gets by on his good looks and his army of teenage fans. His bass playing ability isn't the best, but thats no reason for the rest of the band to be bashed. They are a bunch of skilled musicians, they are only being dragged down by wentz. I think the albums great, but hey thats just my opinion.
ok. first of all. just because im slayer 101 dosent mean im a metal nazi. i do love metal. but i also love alot of different music. but if you wanna talk stereotypes, alot of these reveiws are written by brainless, talentless, respectless, "wanna be punk" emo kids who would call teenage angst the feeling they get when hot topic runs out skin tight pant or when mommy and daddy cant give them a ride to get there 70$ flock of sea gulls haircut. and im talking about you too captin. and if you think zepplin and mettalica are talentless fools go read one of their reveiws and see how much negative bull shit ppls posted on there then compair it to the negative shit ppl say about this emo crap. and teenage angst is dark. its a blind fury and isnt supposed to be nostalgic and intellegant. and no. im not an old pissed off metal head. im a 17 year old boy surrounded by self rightous emos and im sick of it. bands like zepplin and mettalica have forgotten more about music than fob will ever come close to learning.

this record is catchy and very different., whose to say FOB can't explore new influences. the vocals contribute to the fact that patrick is a really great singer that can extend to other musical fields. pete i will say, isn't the best bassist around. his lines are fairly simple and he's admitted to never using anything hard orcomplicated. Andy is just an awesome drummer. enough said. and the guitars? sure they're not as loud or pro mixed/produced but this is po/punk music. it doesn't need to be hard or complex. pop/punk music is about catchy melodies and contrafacts, not have extreme notes.
POSTED: 01/20/2009 05:39pm

i agree with you 100%! finally someone else who likes the album. yeah, it has a huge production sound but that doesn't mean it's bad or too much of a "sell out" to be any good. it's original, catchy, and has awesome lyrics. infinity was my least favorite of their albums (not just b/c their image) but cork tree's still my favorite. i never stopped listening to it the first week it came out thinking "they're gonna be huge." unfortunately i was too right. and take this to your grave was really good too but i like folie a duex better.

The end.

Sincerely
A dedicated Fall Out Boy fan

i like fall out boy to, but thats NOT the way to react to people who think they suck. Why even care, sticking up for fall out boy is the same as trowing buckets of water in the sea. It has no effect. just drop it.
POSTED: 02/27/2009 06:37am

Okay need a rant here- first of all I love the album and I love Fall Out Boy- but thats an opinion. If the band or the album isn't your thing, then fine, but some people are just ridiculous.

First of all to all you 'why can't they go back to their roots?' people, bands and music change I'm afraid. I love TTTYG- quality album- but why the hell would you want another 3 that sound exactly the same? People need to grow up, pretty much every band I like I got into when they were already famous, I've got no problem with that. It's pretty pathetic to think a band should do everything your way just because you heard them first.

Secondly- to all the FOB haters. As i said before, if you don't like the band that's your opinion, but reasons such as 'they're gay' and 'only teenage girls like them' are neither valid nor true to be honest. Oh yeah, and there's more to life than Machine Head and Slayer by the way. So be a bit more open minded.

And if these points points have already been made, I apologise, to be honest I couldn't be arsed to read every childish comment on here.
POSTED: 03/15/2009 10:05pm

i like alot of this album, i admit, some of the writing is not at all wentz's best, his life situation has changed and we cant expect his writing to stay the same, thats not how a writer works, thats not how an artist of any kind works, hes married so dont expect very good lyrics in the way of slutty girlfriends like before, (chicago is so two years ago lyrics will be missed) alot of it is however very good, (what a catch donnie, headfirst slide, pavlove(bonus track) ), stump's singing is astounding, that has stayed the same, his musical arragements for the songs are hwoever alittle inflated, there are alot of other instruments and tones in these songs that confuse the melodies and it is really dissapointing, (violins and keyboards in watch a catch donnie) they are good but it is just too much to listen to, like playing a huindred good songs all at once, just too disorganized, there are standouts to all of this and it is a good album so i advise you buy(or steal) it yourself and form your own intellegent opinion of it, there is nothing worse you could do than refuse to listen to something, hate it and not know why, it can only help you understand your own taste in music
POSTED: 04/16/2009 02:50pm

I have to strongly dissagree I know tons of guys plus myself who love the band and personally I think they have great music. They are actually my favorite band. I agree with anyone who says if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. I mean really we don't go hating on the bands you like. You should actually be glad fob is so popular becuase if people liked them half as much as they enjoyed fob we could be he ones saying the only reason they are popular is because they are sell outs and teenage girls are the only fans. Apparently no one reads the forum rules before making an acount because it states not to post hate comments and there's definately been a lot of hating lol. For all the haters out there why are you wasting your time rippin on fob when you could be listening to or disscussing your own bands. People just do not make any sense.
