Yeah, It's my favorite distortion pedal I've ever used. It's based on metal of course, but I can get some creamy 70's tones when its set to 0 drive, full output with bass and treb set at 12 o'clock with the mid's at 3 o'clock.
POSTED: 03/30/2009 01:07am

Does it do a good job with the whole tube gain thing? I've been lookin' for a tube driven distortion pedal to resurrect my Valve King, and I really want it to sound like genuine tube gain. Any luck with this?
POSTED: 05/11/2009 04:37pm

I was wondering the same thing. I play a B-52 triple rec, with high end tubes. And i have been looking for a pedal that can give the same kind of dynamic distortion as a tube amp. I have tried about every analog pedal out their and nothing comes close. I need a pedal that has that "tube" feel, warmth, and power. Plus it needs to have enough gain to play newer hard rock and metal. Anybody got ani ideas????

Buy it. It's totally worth it. Just keep in mind, the tube in this pedal is a Ruby tube. It's good, but to enhance the pedal's potential, I recommend you switch tubes into your liking. You want solid Rock & Roll sounds? Switch the tube to a Marshall 12AX Tube. Want that metal tone? Buy a Mesa Boogie 12AX Tube. Want that blues touch? Fender tubes (although, I am not sure this one would fit into this unit).
POSTED: 04/04/2010 07:10am

hey got this pedal today after weeks of trying pedals like the plim soul, ocd full tone overdrive, blackstar ht etc. I was using an ibanez amf73 (which is as good as the gibsons and fenders i've played btw ) through marshall SS amps. Long story short, the tube king is the only one that i found gave a warm fat valve tone that ya can sculpt to fit any style. Also the slightly gimmicky noise gate turned out to be one of the best bits of the pedal, it just heightens the sound quality emmensely.
POSTED: 04/14/2011 03:47pm

Tube king is actually a tube pre-amp with a high gain created for solid state amps to obtain that warm tube tone offered by expensive tube amplifiers. The pedal is superb that aside from producing a massive and tight distortion, it has a very nice tone, vintage and warm. if you cant afford a tube amplifier, your option is to buy a solid state modelling amp with good clean channel and usable reverb/delay. A tubescreamer (ts 808)will add magic and boost in doing solos.
POSTED: 02/06/2012 11:24pm

Why modeling amp, why not analog SS? Modelers might not take pedals well.
POSTED: 02/10/2012 04:05pm
