No doubt. I'm sure the AiC guys have never even heard of Kutless. It's just kind of lame that I have two CDs that look very similar.
POSTED: 09/29/2009 09:44am

Who gives a shit. Are we buying albums for cover art now?

Anyways, I did download this album, but after listening to it, I went out and bought it. Great album. Not as good as Facelift of Dirt, but still a very good album.
POSTED: 09/29/2009 11:13am

I had a hard time getting into this album. Not because of the new guy, but because it didn't sound like the AIC I liked, I own Facelift, Jar of Flies and the best of, and the new stuff is to sludgey and doesn't have the hooky guitar lines. I dunno... might just be me. I'l have to give it a few more listens, but I don't see it as anything special. Very forgettable.
POSTED: 09/29/2009 11:41am

Thats the issue, pick up their self titled or Dirt. This is DEFINITELY AiC!

I'm so happy this album wasn't a fail. AiC was one of my favorites, thrilled to have them back.
POSTED: 09/29/2009 12:10pm

AIC is one my three favorite bands of all-time and they did not disappoint with BGWTB. Let's face it---there will never be another Layne Staley, but AIC lives on through Jerry and Layne would be very proud of this collection of tunes. To me this is the best cd of the year and a testament to AIC's greatness. By the way, 'Last of My Kind' is mesmerizing and an instant classic!!!
POSTED: 09/29/2009 12:39pm

Back on topic, just bought the CD and so far from what I've listened to its pretty solid. Not their best material but a good return.
POSTED: 09/29/2009 12:39pm

I had a hard time getting into this album. Not because of the new guy, but because it didn't sound like the AIC I liked, I own Facelift, Jar of Flies and the best of, and the new stuff is to sludgey and doesn't have the hooky guitar lines. I dunno... might just be me. I'l have to give it a few more listens, but I don't see it as anything special. Very forgettable.

I felt the same way when I gave it my first listen. Now I think it is absolutely amazing and some of their best work. My favorites are Your Decision, Private Hell, Last of My Kind, and Take Her Out
POSTED: 09/29/2009 06:39pm

The AIC album kicks some serious ass, and gives a big **** you to all the haters that said new vocalist William DuVall could not pull off what Layne Staley did back in Alice in Chains' heyday. The CD is a powerhouse filled with great techniques and the signature sludge of Jerry Cantrell, along with acoustic epics, in particular "Black Gives Way to Blue", the title track featuring Elton John on piano, which is also Cantrell's tribute to the late Layne Staley. Tracks like "All Secrets Known","When the Sun Rose Again", and "Check My Brain" go back to the traditional AIC sound. The new disc has some "diamonds in the rough" as far as songs go however. The track "Last of My Kind" is a full throttle assault featuring DuVall's shining moment as he sings alone...its safe to say that Layne would be proud of his vocals on this song. Another standout is the epic "Acid Bubble" containing the signature AIC vocal melodies and melodic verses, but then it is taken into another direction as Cantrell's guitar just rips through and the refrain is sung. It is no doubt that Alice in Chains is back with a vengeance. Cantrell and the original members have not lost their flavor, and as for DuVall, the world is going to have to be ready for the new lead vocalist to take charge as he fills Staley's shoes...overall, a masterpeice and a muste-hear for all devout AIC fans!
POSTED: 09/29/2009 07:38pm

AIC is easily in my top 3 or 4 favorite bands of all time; and I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed. To me, it sounds like a Jerry Cantrell solo album. I understand that Jerry has always been the chief songwriting force in AIC, but still, does he have to dominate 95% of the vocal mix on the record? Why even bother bringing William Duvall in as a singer if he's barely featured on the record?

Most of the songs were bland. After 14 years, I expected a much bigger bang. However, I do LOVE Acid Bubble, A Looking In View, and Last Of My Kind. Your Decision is okay too. The rest of the album I could do without.

All that said... still looking forward to seeing them live again and glad to see they're back together.
POSTED: 09/30/2009 11:39am

For me, this album sounds as if Jerry and Co. made a conscientious
effort to keep William subdued as a lead singer, and focused more on the AIC "sound" of harmony vocals to help the transition for those of us who are loyal AIC fans. I personally think that was a mistake. Other people have commented about this as well, but what really comes to light for me from this record is what is missing, and that is the power and talent of Layne Staley. Before hearing BGWTB, I really didn't think that Layne being gone would have been such an issue, especially with the effort Jerry put in on the "Tripod" record from both a songwriting and singing standpoint. After listening to the new record, its painfully obvious that Laynes absence is significant, but again, that may be because William wasn't really given a chance to make a substantial contribution. I hope that on the next record William is allowed to step up and define his role as the new singer for AIC.
POSTED: 10/01/2009 08:26pm

And my biggest complaint is how his parts sound so muddled, like he's singing through a megaphone with a lot of effects. I don't know I guess I don't like the production, but it was just okay for me.
This album rocks. First, Layne would have been proud and would have Rocked this album. But we don't have the benefit of having that happen, do we. Second, Just saw AIC in Seattle at The Paramount (Perfect Venue - The Accoustic's are absoluteley Awesome Here). They nailed every song, and sounded stronger than ever. I saw AIC twice in their earlier years (living in Seattle and being a serious AIC, Nirvana, Sound Garden Listener) how could you not support the local guy's. This was absoluteley the tightist they had ever been. All in all, great job guy's.
POSTED: 02/15/2010 11:39pm

Being a long time fan of AIC I can yes, it's not the same with Staley, but the essence of the band is still there. I like this album soley for the fact that this the bands way of moving on, but never ever forgetting their brother. From front to back, this album is tight and well put together. DuVall is great addition to the band and Cantrell is a genious like always. \m/
Hope,
A new beginning
Time,
Time to start living -
like just before we died.

There's no going back to the place -
We've started from.

Not only do I love this CD. Not only do I love AIC... But i think this was the best album of 2009. It was a dead year in music for my tastes... AIC saved the day. Er, year.
POSTED: 06/18/2010 08:29pm
