Weirdly, Steve Vai's rhythm guitarist is having some 7 string customs made. I doubt they'll ever make him a signature as he's not exactly famous, but it might give them the idea of making some productions 7s...
POSTED: 03/05/2010 08:42pm

Actually the tremonti SE is much cheaper...this was on a limited sale run, it cost just as much as the regular custom and singlecut. And larrytheguitar, your kinda right, they aren't being made anymore, but thats because its PRS's 25 or 35 annevirsary and they have their "special run" custom 24 SE. Anything to make a buck lol
POSTED: 03/05/2010 11:23pm

Just buy it replace the nut and grind your own string grooves, you will need to also change the intonation on the bridge but its more than possible if youre that desperate
POSTED: 03/07/2010 05:57am

BIG money differences..
Because custom 24 are made in usa
Higher quality than SE lines

SE=(Student Edition)
SE lines are made in Korea
good quality instrument and affordable for most of people.

Regular cusmtom 24 has curved body, SE just flat.
Well, the SE 24 is around $650 on the market, and the Custom 24 starts around $2500 and can go on and on.
What your paying for is the american made quality, more attention to detail, better inlays, pickups, tuners etc.
Don't make the mistake to say the SE is an inferior guitar...there are a few pros that use the SE's on a daily basis. When it comes right down to it, the american made has higher quality standards, but that doesn't make the SE a bad guitar. that being said, I went to a store where i played the tremonti SE and a higher end PRS custom and I actually prefered the SE in terms of playability.

Finally, I say that if you have the money to throw down on an american made, go for it. It will probably play better and will for sure have a better resale value if you should ever part with it (but it'd be a shame). If not, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the SE.
POSTED: 04/23/2010 08:52pm

Chapstick, Vaseline, pencil lead for graphite... All work. You may also try lubing the trem and taking a wound acoustic G string to use for sticking into the nut slot for that string so you can "File" it without having to find a file. This reduced friction and friction is the only reason trems go out of tune.
POSTED: 08/15/2010 01:26am

The SE custom 24 25th anniversary has 2 humbuckers and has a tremolo. Humbuckers sounds thicker. The Soapbar has a stoptail bridge and 2 P90 pickups. They're single coils but not the same as normal single coils like the ones in a Fender Strat. P90s sounds a bit fatter than normal single coils but not as fat as humbuckers. Since u love Breaking benjamin, get the 25th anniversary. Humbuckers would be great for that kind of stuff.
POSTED: 12/16/2010 10:19am

Actually the tremonti SE is much cheaper...this was on a limited sale run, it cost just as much as the regular custom and singlecut. And larrytheguitar, your kinda right, they aren't being made anymore, but thats because its PRS's 25 or 35 annevirsary and they have their "special run" custom 24 SE.
You're right. PRS has this particular ability of making instruments than appeal to everyone. This Custom 24 SE is - if well crafted - a perfect tool. It has everything you need: sound, playability, versatility, great hardware, good finish. It you're lucky enough to get one made in a very resonant piece of wood, then you got a guitar for a lifetime. But even if you aren't, then you just get a consistent, solid and reliable workhorse that will never let you down.
Not to mention that it costs about the price of a low-level Fender or Gibson and it beats them in every respect. (I'm a Stratophile, I must add, not to be mistaken.)
POSTED: 10/05/2011 11:10am

Do what Jimi did: take a right-hand one and turn it upside down, them replace the strings in the right order for your left hand. I bet you'll get an intersting sound out of your guitar. No kidding. Remember that the pickups will remain at the same height adjustment as for a right hand player, so, just like Jimi, you'll have a humbucker closer to the lower end of your strings than to the higher one. I'd be thrilled to listen to a PRS set up like that.
POSTED: 10/05/2011 06:15pm

I got the mikael akerfeldt se. Not because I am a fan of opeth (in fact, I don't think I've ever really listened to any of their songs) but because I got a really good deal on the guitar. I'm going to switch out the pickups, the nut, the bridge and the tuners. If I so much as look at the trem, the guitar goes out of tune. It really is annoying. The nut creaks and hence will be swapped out. I am okay with the guitar since I only paid half of what it retails for in the shops, but if I had to pay the full price, I'd go for something else.
POSTED: 01/13/2012 02:18am
