I think they always do now. They have done the two times iv seen them and they did at Reading Fest a few years back

That Was Just your Life(Death Magnetic): the song started playing from the tape and Kirk actually was late on stage so the first minutes of the song came form the tape.

okay.. im not pointing any fingers.. but SOMEONE here doesnt know anything at all about Metallica...

if they played That Was Just Your Life as their opener.. they use the tape at the beginning of the song because there is more than 2 guitars in it, so its impossible for them to play live. and also, you said Kirk came in late and they used the tape for the first few minutes? the first one to play would be James, not Kirk, so either you dont know the difference or you were too busy lookin at Kirk while James was playing the riff
