3. Most of Green Day's music is all power chords. It's the speed that they are played at that make them so appealing.

Also these are some things that would be good to follow.
1. The CD is meant for you to enjoy it. If you didn't enjoy it then just say that and don't bitch about it for 5 sentences.
2.Also, don't write things like "Green Day should die" because that's mean. They put their emotions into the music and created something that many people enjoy. If you don't like it then turn it off and don't listen to it.

well maybe that would be a fair comparison if green day played reggae. the truth is that theyre two different bands in two different genres and should never be compared. and neither of them suck.

Wake me up when september ends has nothing to do with the story. it was about 9/11 and his dad, but they could have put the song at the end of the album because it doesn't make sense 2 the story.

Thanks. Green Day is a really good band but I'm not saying they're the greatest ever or anything. You can never have a favorite type of music or a favorite band you just stick with forever. There's too many people to ignore.

Listen to their other albums before you completely write them off.

Anyways, if you wrote what I thought you wrote, I agree. My favorite song on this album would have to be Jesus of Surburbia, Dearly Beloved is like my favorite part. St. Jimmy is also a favorite.
I like their older stuff better though, but AI is pretty damn good too.

Wow, thanks! I certainly am a stupid prick. Oh well, this stupid prick just got three new Green Day CDs, and she is happy, very happy. I got Warning, Insomniac, and Shenanigans, which got me thinking...

I was listening to them and comparing those albums with American Idiot, and, well, wow... they totally changed their sound with Warning, it's way more upbeat and less emo-ish. Which leads me to believe their new album is going to be completely emo or something. It's pretty cool that they have all these different sounds. What do ya'll think about their different sounds and junk?

To answer your question, "Kathleen Hanna" was guest female vocalist on LetterBomb. If you would like to know more about her then 'google' Kathleen Hanna biography and the first link is to wikipedia.. More information on her can be found there than I care to read, but w/e floats your boat right? =P

Also in my skimming through some of the mindless dribble above I noticed a comment saying something like, "it is the longest song ever made with punk rock influences right?" While refering to Jesus of Suberbia.. WRONG!

First thing to pop into my mind would be "NOFX - The Decline" clocking in at 18+ minutes.. A ****ing masterpiece at that. Plenty of punk rock bands could make a 10+ minute song but few can pull it off whilst keeping the majority of intelligent listeners engrossed throughout its duration. I think in both cases the artists have done so.

I'm a Green Day fan and have been for a long, long time. While AI to me is a double edged sword in more ways then one I usually haven't the time or attention span to disguss, voice, or defend my opinions. At this time (12:30 AM 'ish) I'm lacking of anything else to do. So, here I am wasting my worthless time.. Bleh...

No band is ever "The best band ever" simply because for a band to achieve the status as best band in the world they would have had to made music that personally invoked thoughts and emotions for every person that has ever listened to it.. It's just as impossible as time travel. Sure it's fun to fantisize but really, it's impossible..

Rather then saying, "Green Day is the best band ever." (Or rather some of the butchered keyboard mashing some of you so-called human beings categorize as opinions and/or words.. Your message is similar to this generic sentance.) Try saying what you really mean.. Something along the lines of, "Green Day is my favorit band because *Insert thoughts and opinions* ."

Same Idea with the "I'm the biggest Green Day fan EVER!" comments.. I'll say it now, No, you aren't.. There will ALWAYS be somebody to 1-up you and at no point will anyone ever be determined as the biggest / best fan.. It's alot like the best band ever arguement.. It is something that can never and will never be determined.. You like a band, they are your favorit band, what ever, quit maiking generic, faulty comments and tell us WHY you think these things.. I shouldn't have to tell you people these things, Gawd! =)

I read through alot of this stuff on the site and most of the time it just irritates me.. People always just type stupid things.. "This band is Gay." "This band is the best ever." I always wonder why it seems that nobody has anything usefull to say sometimes.. "I don't like this band because every song sounds too much like the one before it and the lead singer has a crappy additude." Or "This is my favorit band because I can relate to the lyrics and the sound is really good."

Don't get me wrong alot of people around he get it and actually put up information and opinions worth our time, but you've got to admit, alot of it is rubbish.

I also just noticed we both have '13' at the end of our names and really like Green Day.. Is that not wierd? 13 is my lucky/favorit number. I was also born on June 13th.. =P

Anyway, I noticed a trend on here. Some people tend to hate Green Day because they are seriously overplayed. I can understand that. I can't listen to BOBD anymore because I've heard it so many times. Thank you to you sir for providing evidence to support your opinion. I appreciate it. I would like to say, however, to some people, Billie does have the best voice, it's all a matter of taste and opinion. I happen to love and admire everything about his voice, I have heard other 'legends', but none are as great to me. Not to put other singers down, I just prefer his technique and style. As for Tre' it's more of the way he plays than how fast or complicated his drum solos are, although I've heard from a few drummers he can do some impressive things. It's all a matter of opinion.

This is how i first heard of Green Day
i found them so good that i have most of their albums!

they had a great style from 1039 to Insomniac, but when it got to nimrod thats when they started to change. American Idiot is what i find most interesting, my favorite to play on guitar!

Thank you to you sir for providing evidence to support your opinion. I appreciate it. I would like to say, however, to some people, Billie does have the best voice, it's all a matter of taste and opinion. I happen to love and admire everything about his voice, I have heard other 'legends', but none are as great to me. Not to put other singers down, I just prefer his technique and style. As for Tre' it's more of the way he plays than how fast or complicated his drum solos are, although I've heard from a few drummers he can do some impressive things. It's all a matter of opinion.

Yeah and also in most people's eyes, Billie Joe is a legend because he's the frontman of a band who helped revive the hung-over alternative music scene. Before they did, it all seemed like punk was going to go away because Cobain (R.I.P.) was dead but, bands like Green Day, Rancid, NOFX, and The Offspring followed grunge bands' footsteps and fused pop with punk....so yeah I think he's a legend, he only revived an almost dead music scene, but whatever, who cares, say whatever you want (sarcastically)....

First off, this album is freaking amazing in all aspects. And if you are anywhere near this page, you better think the same thing!
But alot of it is politically motivated, and that is just retarded! Bands are for MUSIC! Not for distributing liberal propaganda! Politically motivated and stuffed music is still good music, but not because of that. MAYBE. MAYBE if Green Day and any of the seemingly trillions of other Democrat bands out there were on the RIGHT side, (Republican,) this would be acceptable. But none of them are, and therefore it is not.

Oh yeah; this album was so much better than their older stuff. Even though that stuff was good, too.

BUT

They technically never were a "true" punk band and always had a bit of mainstream in them, and this album has some pretty good melodies and harmonies.

So instead of being all pretentious as to what "punk" and "good music" are, I decided to enjoy it for what it is: good, fun powerpop with some "true" punk undertones.

Can we all just stop the endless disputes about genres and "street cred" and just enjoy music for the sake of music?

I hated people who called Green Day sell-outs when this album came out. It really wasn't as bad as many of the older fans made out, despite the new direction, and I was initially happy for them to have regained such popularity.

Ridiculous single collaborations with Bono - the most irritatingly self-satisfied cretin in music - and awards from Nickelodeon, plus a sense of being totally disconnected from the fans, has alienated this band from an older, more mature audience who have followed their career.

Meanwhile, while the faithful wait 4 years for a follow-up that has been delayed on at least 2 occasions, the trio have spent their time and money doing half-baked side projects like Foxboro Hot Tubs, which was a f***ing rip-off because it comes in a cardboard sleeve and yet they charge you full CD price for it (my sleeve got damaged just from removing some zealous shrink wrap).

Unless their next album is a killer, I may cast this band aside. American Idiot: what they've gained in sales, they've lost in credibility.

Oh, and despite the views of some fans here, I am not gay or lifeless for being fed up with Green Day. Like almost all of their older fans, I am devastated.

I love rock music, but I could count on one hand the number of rock albums I have even remotely liked in the past ten years. This album is definitely one of them, without a doubt.
