Then call it a Les Paul knock off.

This is not a 9.4/10 guitar. A Gibson Les Paul Standard or a Custom Shop Strat/Tele is probably a 9.4/10 guitar.

Also, you say you play mostly metal and that this guitar suits it perfectly - Les Pauls are world renowned for their exclusive use in metal... but then, this isn't a Les Paul, it's a knock off.

You say you've been playing for 3 years, and this is best guitar you've played. You need to get down to a music shop and pick up pretty much any guitar there, and then you will have a new best guitar to talk about. Pick up a Gibson or ESP or Rickenbacker, and then call this knock off a 9.4/10 guitar...
POSTED: 10/26/2010 07:22am

I know i will get flamed once again for saying this, but this is an awful review, inaccurate, and screams of inexperience.
Another review UG should've rejected.
POSTED: 10/26/2010 07:32am

Yeah, if the body shape was 100% like a real Gibson they'd have the shite sued out of them. Tbh, if you're gonna get an LP copy for less than 200 quid, buy a westfield. I have one and they're awesome. The only problem I've had with mine is the bridge came out slightly but all it needed was some super-sticky adhesive. I put a set of Duncans in mine and it sounds amazing, even through my Spider III.
POSTED: 10/26/2010 11:21am

there was no model number on the guitar and it looked like a les paul , i assumed straight off that it was a les paul copy , now i review it and people are saying how inexperienced i am with guitars/reviews etc..
i am definitley not inexperienced with playing a guitar , i know i am not good with reviews , having never done one before.
this is one of the best guitars i have played , if you have got a problem with that , go tell someone who gives a damn.

To linkerman - it was my first review , everyone messes up on their first one , and it was accurate as well , it was just what i thought of the guitar when i played it , you got a problem , ill say again , go tell someone who gives a damn .
POSTED: 10/26/2010 12:14pm

I believe what they're saying horrorpunk is that even though this may be the BEST guitar you've ever played, the scale of judging the guitar from 1-10 is a scale for all guitars. That being said you've stacked a low end, cheap guitar, which may be pretty decent, up among high end guitar that range from 900-2000 bucks. A 6 or 7 may have been more appropriate for an overall rating
POSTED: 10/26/2010 12:28pm

The scale from 1-10 is COMPLETELY SUBJECTIVE.

Case and point, Josh Homme loves playing out of Gorilla amplifiers, but Gorilla's are typically what a regular player would call a creative set of words that essentially boils down to shit. But Homme himself has said that he prefers them because they're shit. And, for the sound that he's looking for, I'm sure that he'd give it 8-10 out of ten, because thats the sound that he's looking for. The rest of us would probably note that the amplifier is shit.

I've played guitars in the high price range that felt like absolute shit, and sounded like absolute shit. Know Gibson's Raw series, with the stripped down necks and hot humbuckers? They're terrible, there was a knot in the wood of the neck of the one I was playing. And I've got a guitar that I picked up for 200 bucks that I believe is the sound for ME.

Look, many Gibson's are shit now, and unless you purchase a vintage one, you might end up regretting your purchase. It might not always be the case, but it often is. Lay off the man, perhaps he prefers this particular guitar to higher-end ones that he's played?
POSTED: 10/26/2010 12:41pm

Can people please rate their gear according to reasonable guidlines and not as "this is the best ever". This might be a great guitar in it's price-range but can you honestly rate it so high against a higher end instrument? Please people.. compare your guitars to equivalent quitars not to "all" guitars. It's like comparing a Smart Car to a Ferrari.. it doesn't make sense!
POSTED: 10/26/2010 12:57pm

Nobody will ever learn that users usually rate the guitar based on what they payed for it...

Of course a PRS is gonna be way better than a Les Paul knockoff. But a PRS is gonna cost ten times more.

Therefore, the ratings have to be relative to price, otherwise any guitar that isn't the Martin D-100 would have a crap rating. Because that guitar was like $100,000 or something.
POSTED: 10/26/2010 01:37pm

Try with an Ibanez USA or j custom or a guitar of similar caliber, then you'll have something worthy of a 9.4 review. If a LP standard is worthy of this high a rating, 1/1000 knock offs must certainly a clear 10; when it comes to knock offs and cheap end guitars, the individual axe is sometimes (if not rather often) much better than the average.
POSTED: 10/26/2010 08:13pm

Did you just pull my quote out of context, and use it in a way that was not intended? I opened up with the rating system is completely subjective, not that its selectively subjective. What you're proposing is selective subjectivity, which doesn't work...

In order to give a pure, empirical rating, one would have to go and sample EVERY GUITAR OUT IN EXISTENCE, otherwise their rating would be skewed because they didn't play so-and-so's telecaster thats had its neck broken six times, fixed four, and replaced three times, because EVERY GUITAR SOUNDS DIFFERENT. Even at THAT, there's going to be a bias to what the reviewer plays or listens to. Every person has a different structure for their outer ear, and that structure acts as a passive equalizer. So, what sounds good to one person MIGHT JUST SOUND LIKE SHIT to someone else.

Get a grip, and stop being dicks to people who publish reviews, or maybe publish your own. There are certain stupid traps that reviewers often fall into on this site, e.g. Not owning the guitar for long, reviewing its reliability without ever taking it out for friends, playing through an amplifier that overly colors the sound, only playing through one source, not giving the guitar a once-over for any blemishes... But this particular reviewer did not fall into them.

He might be using a product that is inferior to your 'distinguished' taste, but it doesn't make his review wrong.
POSTED: 10/26/2010 09:27pm

I've played one of Rikter's Les Paul copies (not the model above)and it was actually pretty good, well set up, fast action, nice tone, good hardware, straight neck, stays in tune nicely and plenty of output from the pickups. Really not much to complain about. My regular guitar is a US standard Tele but I used to play Gibson's a lot - a 70's Standard SG was my main guitar for years. I'm not a big fan of Gibson's any more and, to be honest, plugging this thing in next to the old SG there really wasn't much to choose between them. My advice - get yourself a Tele but if you want a Les Paul style guitar with humbuckers this'll do the job until you can afford to pay the premium for a Gibson, but really Gibson need to up their game a bit if they want people to stop buying copies.
POSTED: 05/18/2013 09:26am
