Best album they've made in a long time. I'd say it's still only a high 6. But hey, I guess that's the UG scale.
POSTED: 03/08/2011 06:28am

I grew up listening to R.E.M., the B-52's, Elvis Costello, etc. (I'm 19) When I started developing my own taste in music, I revisited R.E.M. and was totally blown away. I think R.E.M. is one of the best artists of the 80's and 90's (2000's not so much), and it baffles me that they have been for the most part forgotten. Haven't heard the album yet, but these seem promising.
POSTED: 03/08/2011 01:48pm

This. They were amazing in the early years, but as of late are only so-so
POSTED: 03/08/2011 04:42pm

I think when R.E.M lost Bill Berry they kind of lost their way. It took time for them to really understand how to write without him. Accelerate was a great start but Collapse into Now is really going to be a classic R.E.M album. It really returns to their sound of the 90s. They have some nice rockers, intelligent lyrics, and even some mandolin. The guest spots fit perfectly and once again it shows that Stipe and the group can craft some great songs.
POSTED: 03/08/2011 11:09pm

A good album, reminiscent (almost too much so) of their 1980s and 1990s gems. I like the lyrics on "All the Best" about "I'll show the kids how to do it, fine, fine, fine." They still have something to say. Totally agree. Patti Smith knocks it out of the park on Alligator_Aviator_Autopilot_Antimatter
POSTED: 03/14/2011 08:11pm
