Totally opinionated and an undeserved score. Maybe they should have given this review to someone who enjoys the band and wouldn't have just given their music a listen while passing by.

The UG team gets people who can write well enough but are too inclined to follow what everyone else says. You'll never see a negative UG review unless some other media group gave said peice a negative review. And so far, Locust reception has been 'universally positive' across newpapers, mags and websites so thats how it rolls.

But if the reviewer had given a perfect ten, people like you would complain that no album is perfect and that the reviewer is biased.

I listened to the album several times and really enjoyed it. I've written reviews for UG before that were not positive reviews (and consequently got criticized for this, as well). I do not base my opinions on other reviews, etc. I do some research on the album itself and the recording of it via different sites and sometimes print articles and listen to the album 2 - 3 times before I write the review. This happened to be a really solid album. As far as taking off 1.7 points from the review, I look at it more as granting 8.3 points. I rated each category as I felt appropriate compared to what I envision as a perfect 10 in each category.

Well that makes a bit more sense, but really really try to ingratiate yourself with the blackening, its a far superior album.

Brandon is a very solid reviewer who stays in his own range of scores, as do most of the UG Team. I mean you'll see great albums getting 7.8-9's all the time. Then you'll see "meh" ones getting 5.2-6.8's. Anything lower than a 5 is garbage. (See: Morbid Angel)

Anyways, I enjoy this album. It does not come close to The Blackening in terms of feeling or execution, but I'll still enjoy it for what it's worth. Good effort, hopefully they do better next time. (Or rather, if you're a Trivium fan, Machine Head just copied what Trivium did. Release a masterpiece and then a "so-so" look back at themselves.)

Anyway, absolutely amazing album. I cannot compare it to The Blackening as it is a completely different album. To me, this is equal to The Blackening.

I just felt that the score was unjustified when the reviewer said, what I preceived as, basically nothing bad about the album. If you don't point out any real faults, why take away points?

I listened to the entire album before posting and, in all honesty, I found this to be on par with Blackening. Maybe even a little behind it in terms of awesomeness. I only say this now knowing that MH albums grow on me over time.

Having listened to it several times over, I'm starting to enjoy it more than the Blackening at times, but I miss the sheer intensity of songs like Aesthetics of Hate and Beautiful Mourning. Easily, in the range of 8.7-9.0.
