Reading our fellow's review, it seems a very versatile and dependable instrument. Personally I'm not fond of the Dirty Fingers Humbuckers, but I assume they sound good when playing Rock or Heavy Metal. I'm delighted to hear that Epiphone has started to think about clean tones and actually makes guitars with good cleans, it was an issue some time ago. All in all, good guitar, useful review.
POSTED: 09/30/2011 04:58pm

@rv_phoenix: Oh I can understand that. The other guitar that shines on cleans for Epiphones it the Les Paul Ultra 2, which actually has an active acoustic pickup as well, which means it's a hybrid guitar, so check that out for a clean tone. It can even sound like a strat!

On the whole, the dirty finger humbuckers are not as sharp as say the Dimarzio pickups on an Ibanez JS100, but they have a nice warm overtone ton them, and allow for a bit of that grit that 70's rockers will remember. Think of it as putting a guitar from Jimmy Page's generation inSteve Vai's kit bag: it's given the fancy gimmicks but keeps the beard
POSTED: 10/01/2011 06:30am

Thank you for pointing me towards some interesting instruments. I'll give them a try, your description sounds really inviting.
POSTED: 10/01/2011 05:09pm

Epiphone Rush Signature Les Paul... Like Alex Lifeson's Rush? Since when did Epiphone have a model like that? I've googled it and everything, only the Gibson LP Axcess Model comes up. If there really is an Epi model, can anyone please send me a link or details?
POSTED: 10/01/2011 11:20pm

Um, it's actually nothing do with the Alex Lifeson model. Gibson were making guitars like this several years ago under the name Les Paul Axcess. They were pretty popualr but very expensive. This is the Epiphone version. The Alex Lifeson signature model is basically just a re-release of the Axcess.
POSTED: 10/02/2011 12:51pm

Mine came with Alnico classics too ... I can't find a version of this guitar that comes with Dirty Fingers. And to clear up any confusion for people googling this instrument the correct title is Plustop Pro FX. Can't have purchased it from the epiphone custom shop either ... Might be called a custom shop, but it doesn't work like one.
POSTED: 10/04/2011 08:16pm

@Picklelerner: sorry, but either way it feels like it was setup to be a guitar for Alex Lifeson. It's really a much better quality guitar than you'd expect from Epiphone though, and head to head with a Schecter Synister Gates signature this has held it's own.
POSTED: 10/07/2011 01:23pm

My Dad walked into a custom shop and bought it of the wall. It's still working fine as far as I can tell too.
POSTED: 10/07/2011 01:26pm

What I meant was it can't be THE epiphone custom shop, as in the one who's logo is printed on the back of the headstock. A custom shop that deals with epiphone guitars is a different thing. The fact it came from A custom shop would also explain the DF pick-ups, as the stock guitar (which I have) does not. Other than that, I agree with everything you said, certainly is a solid instrument. I also had to sort out the intonation, but i had to sort out pretty much everything on mine and is came right from the factory. Very impressed with the Floyd Rose Special too, and the coil tapping is a very welcome additional feature. Very versatile guitar, as you pointed out and starts up well to it's competitors
POSTED: 10/10/2011 11:01am

Thanks man. I really enjoy this guitar. My only critisism would be that sometimes when I'm putting a new high e string in, the bar that's supposed to hold it in place doesn't and it pulls loose and pulls itself out of the bridge. It's why I prefer Ibanez tremolos as they don't require you to cut the ball end of the string off. It's still a solid instrument though, and I'm 75% sure that the problem with the bridge is a minor fault.
POSTED: 10/24/2011 01:25pm
